By the time I get outside my dogs have disappeared
I do some violent tapping with my ink pen against a chair
Beau, the baby, comes running back to see what it is
He licks my knees; he always licks my knees
I am relieved, knowing he is not digging under the neighbor’s fence
Beau is an avid digger
He has dug holes all over the yard
I am sure the gophers have all disappeared

There once were a couple of worms
Who perished; their very last squirms
Such a long time ago -
46,000 years, so you’ll know -
Which a study by science confirms.
They were trapped in a permanent frost
And would likely be forever lost
But some gophers around
Dug them up from the ground
And before they were heedlessly tossed
A sharp scientist said, “Thaw them out!”
And, despite some reactions of doubt,
Into water they went
And ‘twas soon evident
They were wriggling slowly about.
Does this prove if we’re buried in ice
We can come back to life and live twice?
I’m not sure that applies
To our human-type size
And for me, once around will suffice.

Don’t you see the skip of my jolly heels,
skipping about the globe while planting stars?
Ask then from mother earth what joy she feels
When my rubber sole and her corners spar.
In offices, they don brogues and loafers,
See me jolly hop with sparkled laces.
My Chuck 70’s turn suits to gophers,
Gentlemen grimace and grow grey faces.
I know jealous jugs of beer that will spill
and stink my Converse in bars and taverns.
Yet the canvas skin won’t break for their swill,
For it has walked over hills and caverns.
In churches and pews, I dance all the tunes,
Hear the slide of my foot to the insoles.
While priests return bibles for forks and spoons,
I hear sermons from the trips of my soles.
My All Stars have walked a callous journey
From my little foot to my huge footprint.
I don mine in king beds and in gurneys,
This shoe that has become my life’s blueprint.

Living Near
In the meadow of tomorrow,
in the land of today,
I see the truth of all past...
We are as one,
balanced and unbalanced.
The tall grass is green,
and smells of flowers,
and weeds
they permeate the air.
The worms dig tunnels...
all amount them.
The gophers dance there,
at night,
and run wild,
in the darkness of day.
The bright sun shows her face,
and the birds fly to touch her image,
reflected upon the soft clouds between
heaven and the earth.
Bees hum...
and there is a lightness to everything,
real and uncertain.
The maiden remembers,
the young lad forgets,
but they are always one,
seen in their children's faces.
The circle of light...
complete.

I have a problem;
these animals keep digging
mammals moles, gophers
~
hole digging tunnels
Oh! Burrowers where’s your den
you’re not our friend
~
small animals holes
moles, voles, rats, chipmunks burrows
Complex tunnels scapes
~
vermits such a pest

A faerie village is a marvelous place to be.
If you ever find yourself petite and small.
Pure of heart travelers will discover an oak tree.
Beyond the west side of inspiration wall.
An ethereal faerie may soon dance to thee.
Let her read your fortune in her crystal ball.
Stay away gophers and birds that ‘chee’.
Simon LeGree is still out here, after all.

'Bunnies!', 'Yes, bunnies!'
a lonely pooch
sniffing the mound of dirt
Sniff, sniff flung the Yorkie
'Bunnies!', 'Yes, bunnies!'
'Bunnies!' curl up cute and cuddly
while across the way
a kingdom full of gophers
a mound of dirt
I sat engaged and skunking
amazed I'm watching
I saw the fantails
Cute little cottontails
When I thought of the bunnies
That proud speculum - that proud
And so you came gently fluttering
the wrigglers never rabbiting
must be their cute cousins
The marl laughed
'Bunnies!''Yes, bunnies!'
So cute soft and cuddly
So, distinctly I was pea-cocking
And my eyes have all the plumbing
While listening to the robins
Remembering many initiated, silent bunnies
so cute and cuddly

One spring morn
A boat set sail
Sailing away
On a sea of green
All the flowers
Were on board
Traveling forth
New sights to see
All the snails
Were too slow
Missed the boat
Didn’t sail
Gophers too
Left behind
Staying out
Of bright sunshine
Sail away
On a sea of green
Going forth
In the new day

In an epoch and era far removed from ours,
Dwelt two golden gophers on the planet Mars.
Asked one of the other, while hugging his interplanetary car,
Saw you not that adorable smooching star?
Returned the second, scarce nanoseconds later,
Emptied you the mandarins and mayonnaise from yonder refrigerator?
Pondered the first, his coiled intestines wildly blinking,
Might you, the second, a new green navel be seeking?
All in all, a night out on the town spun saucily well,
Jousting at cosmic parlance in a galactic epoch nonpareil.

Signs
Bees seem frantic in their hives
Crows are behaving erratically
Deer are running, fear in their eyes
Eagles are diving sporadically
Fish are swimming up to the surface
Gophers have left their homes
Humans are starting to feel a little nervous
Insects are crawling out from the stones
Jumping frogs are leaving their ponds
Kittens are being hauled away by their mothers
List of missing pets is miles long
Makes a person wonder
No one has ever seen snakes in the snow
Only the chosen ones know something
People are unaware, but animals know
Quakes are coming

The secretion of a Lilly is often mistaken for the timbers of a concrete ball. Many a time is the goldfish singing for a curry. Golden gophers gluing glitter. A wolf dancing in a stew of peas is more happy than a porcupine on a rocket powered skateboard.ooooh grammar of framing a drugged frog is as indigestible as spinning around the earth twice after consuming large amounts of beer. Like a tidal wave then. Humming. Humorous isn't it. Turbulent tambourines turning tripe. Intoxication z.

writing of nature
is writing of life
sunsets sunrises
oceans and landscapes
the sight is endless
birds flying high
as gophers dig
drops from the sky
as tide comes in
a rainbow
in the sky
more than trout
all life
endless

The Lone Coyote Calls
Hearing the call of the lone coyote on hot desert night
hot breeze effecting everything in it's swirling path
Eagle sailing lonely across still melting blue skies
gophers scurrying in and out of tight little holes
Sun resting it's shining authority over desolate land
every creature hot and battling in a survival fight
Rolling over in my steaming hot little tent
wondering where the hell that damn coyote went!

I await your coming for the flowers are blooming and the grass is high. The lilac branches are still bare and shivering in the laggard lion’s breath of March. They await your kiss, the Monarch of summer.
purplish buds
sprout from gray lilac branches --
daffodils bloom
Though all the tulips are gone having served as dessert for gophers, the worm and the grubs stir in the wet spring soil. The hyacinths have replaced the crocus’s blue, the paper narcissus now, scent the air.
red breasted robins
hop between hummocks of grass --
bird baths fill with rain
From within a green pupa, soon, you will stir. The membrane will thin, sheer as a curtain in a spring breeze, adorned in polka dots and wings. See your pin-thin limbs stir like the crinolines of spindle legged virgin daughter at first communion. You will emerge with lash long antennae ready to fly.
leaves of cone flowers
push through the brown soil of spring --
anthills rise
I await your coming for the flowers are blooming and the grass is high. Though the lilac branch's still bare and shivering in the laggard lion’s breath of March awaiting your kiss, Monarch of summer, butterflies born.
