Age does not define us,
But our choices surely do.
How I live my life may not
At all appeal to you.
We have to find that comfort zone
Between our younger verve
And, in our later years, that well
Of vigor in reserve.
Some people choose to stay at home,
Quite happy to embrace
The extra time to just relax,
Not going anyplace.
While others, with the end in sight,
Have trips they rush to plan,
Locations where they’ve never been,
To travel while they can.
There is no right or wrong in this;
All people must decide
If they’re ready to step off the train
Or stay on for the ride.

I would pack my dogs into the car
It might take ten minutes to get the puppy in
He is stronger than both of us
And he despises the car
If there is extra time I would take a few canvases,
A twenty-four pack of acrylic paints, ten paint brushes,
Three or four bowls – to feed the dogs and to wash out the brushes
I would also take cozy blankets and pillows
Our dogs like to be comfortable
A fifty-pound bag of dog food would go up front
My purse, my husband’s wallet, and a can of pork and beans.
The kind with a pop tab; I love beans.

Some words have the ability to go beyond themselves…
to transform us…to transcend:
Who is the first person who enters your mind
when you hear the words
my friend?
When you focus on those words for a while…
How many other faces do you see?
How many other friends are waiting to be acknowledged
as they line up in your memory?
When we reach into our memory
and stoke those friendship embers…
the first thing we see are our friends’ faces
but it’s the moments of friendship we remember.
We remember moments we have shared
throughout the days and months and years
the joy, the laughter, the sorrow
the sadness and the tears.
We cherish those moments of friendship
and are thankful for how long their memories last…
keeping us close to friends who have moved away…
and others who have passed.
And when we think of friends still with us…still nearby
we are thankful…we’re elated
for the moments of friendship we will share
that have yet to be created.
So in those times when life slows down
when we have some extra time to spend….
We’ll have so many moments to remember
every time we hear the words…
my friend

You were outraged, although you smiled
You felt that you could hardly care
You see me as an orphan child
Too often, more than you can bear
Say it ain’t so, confute my words
I much prefer them to be wrong
But I just wanted to be heard
Not isolated for so long
This shallow life is getting deep
Truth split in halves, as I have seen
You’re calm and silent, when you sleep
With your remote, beside the screen
I came to kiss you, but you thought
I’ve had enough, and maybe more
Than I deserved, so you have got
A little extra time, what for?

I have been a cartoonist all of my life
drawing is what kept me in school
I could do my school work then draw the rest of the day
There was a lot of extra time back then
we finger-painted in kindergarten
I loved that!
the only paints we had at home was the metallic sliver
that held hard paints and one paint brush
you had to add water to each color
these were not vivid paints
I did not know I was an artist
until fifty years after I left home
I am so glad that I figured it out
because I love painting even more than cartooning.

I’m sorry
I’m sorry for all of the heartbreak, I’m sorry for all of the tears, I’m sorry for all of the trouble we’ve caused you over the previous years.
I have been trying my absolute hardest, to be the best mum that I can be, although I know that my kids are hard to handle most times, I don’t know if others can see.
How hard it is to be a good parent and always doubting yourself, being compared to others, I’m trying my best as well.
No, I am far from perfect, and I know I’m not home enough, but I am only working so much to provide all the necessary stuff.
I wish I could be there more, and spend extra time with my kids, but with how expensive things are, I know this is how it is.
I love all of my children and they know it too. I just wish it wasn’t this way ,or what else I can do.

for when a friend leaves and you’re finding it tough
because forever would not have been enough
I wanted to stay I know you needed me
despite the love we shared it was not to be
but all those memories we made will prevail
my slobbery kisses pounding of my tail
our fun walks together when it was just you and me
always liked showing me off for everyone to see
being with you, always the best time for me
if we were in the car or playing ball or lazing watching TV
I guess we always knew that my time here was so short
and that extra time together just could not be bought
but I’ll always be there right there in your heart
because ours was a team that no one could part
if you miss me some time when you’re alone in the dark
I'll be there with you and you might even hear me bark

The summer looms, with days to fill
Since things are not routine.
No school means extra time to kill;
No rules to intervene.
Yet structure helps to pass the time,
So people won’t be bored
And having fun is not a crime;
It is its own reward.
Once plans are made, it’s extra nice
To set some time aside
To laze around and roll the dice,
For life will be the guide.

It’s hard to get from A to B
If you are in a car,
Although I guess it could depend,
Of course, on where you are.
In New York’s metro area,
The traffic’s so much worse
Than just a few short years ago;
It’s really quite perverse.
The GPS diverts us
To some roads we do not know
And even then, construction makes
The going very slow.
So trips are twice as long (or more!)
As they’re supposed to be.
The lesson to be learned from this
Is very clear to me:
Leave extra time for traveling
Whenever you may roam,
But even better, park your car
And just stay close to home.

(Ariel Rose)
This is a story of a rare white rose only descovered in shallow sea stricken plains on the waters of oceans much life exist all around these areas of reefs all sorts of colors and jellyfish and brightly colored fish. This one rose is so rare it usually stands alone and almost so rare to ever come across, this flowers are more brightly colored and seen at night when the moon is it's brightest illuminating bright florescent lighting white glow, so beautiful it's glows in darkest of waters! This is such a rare sight and find in these deep scary waters but is unscaved by harsh waters surrounding it? Her beauty is rare none the less, yes she has her thorns to protect her her flooting leaves to show her grace? Her purity is evident nothing scaves her beauty from being not noticed, but this flower is so rare to find?
If you come across such a beautiful rose it's worth taking extra time admire and remember because she is so special, your lucky to come across such a flower in a crazy world as ours!!

They are,
Still in touch with reality
They Value logistics over statistics,
They ask the right questions.
They don't believe in a totally cashless society,
Their vision for the future includes a roadmap,
That leads to prosperity for more than 10.
They see People, Water and the environment,
As assets that should never be auctioned off to the highest bidder,
They see benefit in strong communities.
They never make cuts across the board,
They understand that some services should never be contracted out.
That due diligence in this day and age is a heavy responsibility,
And put extra time and resources into it.
They understand that most white collar crime increases when,
Staffing levels drop to a point where,
The temptation to borrow and pay back,
Without anyone being the wiser,
Seems risk free to more people than you think.
They don't believe in overtaxing children,
But see value in afterschool jobs.
They refuse to hire spin doctors.

Like searching for a poison
To heal a healthy heart.
Like sacrificing all reason
In hopes of being smart.
Life crumbles before us
We didn't see because we were rushing.
To high to realize
We hate this life we're lusting.
Wonder where your dreams went?
They use to come with sleep.
Another thing you lose
When you start to tweek.
Your friends and family fade away
As your jealous drug demands more time.
They ask you how you are doing
You always say your fine.
So busy doing nothing
During those days we somehow misplaced.
Gazing into a crystal ball for hours
Looking for extra time to waste.
I lay in an empty room
As my friend drives away.
Looking for a remedy
To cure a normal day.

Thinking is for those of us
Who have some extra time,
Especially when all those thoughts
Are written out in rhyme.
For when days are super busy
And our brains are hard at work,
It’s impossible to wallow where
Ideas or stressors lurk.
Yet when hours stretch out empty,
It’s too easy to obsess,
So what should lead to relaxing
Often veers right into stress.
Thinking’s highly overrated
For, as many people find,
Thoughts may, like invasive species,
Overpopulate your mind.

When younger, I would stay up late
And drink a lot of wine,
But nowadays, with half a beer,
I hit the hay at nine.
My teaching days, once filled with work,
Plus quite a long commute,
Would wipe me out for reasons that
Nobody would dispute.
Yet, now retired, I walk three miles
And pass the extra time
With reading, crosswords, phone calls
And, of course, my daily rhyme.
Though in the afternoon, I feel
Exhausted, truth be told,
Except that now, my main excuse
Is that I’ve gotten old.

On a little vacation
Where you’ve never been,
Just Google the town
To know where to begin.
A list of museums
Or gardens or zoos
Will give you the info
You’re likely to use.
Take a peek at a map
And chart out a cool course.
Read others’ reviews
So you won’t feel remorse.
Then set out to explore.
If the weather gods smile,
You can take extra time
And relax for a while.
