Tired While Retired

When younger, I would stay up late And drink a lot of wine, But nowadays, with half a beer, I hit the hay at nine. My teaching days, once filled with work, Plus quite a long commute, Would wipe me out for reasons that Nobody would dispute. Yet, now retired, I walk three miles And pass the extra time With reading, crosswords, phone calls And, of course, my daily rhyme. Though in the afternoon, I feel Exhausted, truth be told, Except that now, my main excuse Is that I’ve gotten old.

Your last stanza although I hate to admit it, sounds familiar. I feel your pain. Thank goodness for crosswords and of course Poetry Soup. As a retired kindergarten teacher I love a good nap..don't tell. That and my age are a secret. :) I could read your poems all day!

When I first retired, people told me I would hate it. If I had a robot body and flying cars like they promised me, I think retirement would be heaven.

Really, if not for an aging body, retirement is when life can finally be enjoyable
