Morning Poems

A change in morning habit
Has revealed some extra time.
So I've now begun to use it
To produce some extra rhyme.

Its So Much Bigger Here With One Less Person

Maybe its just the weather.

I don't have to keep up with a sunny day today.

So I had extra time to think about it.

I had more time to think about what I could have done, so that it didn't have to happen.

I'm here.

Where are you?

At a Certain Age

at a certain age
grandchildren outgrow you
this speaks well of them
natural consequences of having peers and interests

at a certain age
you are given lots of extra time
to develop your own hobbies and interests
enjoy this time, spend it wisely

Back

And the chorus echoes back
A thousand raised shouts

To the pitter-pink staccato rhythm
The e-journal gets passed on

And Maestro's changed the score
Crying 'cause the celestial performers shone back for a curtain call

Stars erupting into applause shining taking extra time

What a Snafu

This happens when you have no extra time-
There you stand in the queue
Patiently, you wait
There’re two ahead of you--
You’re so close to the gate
You watch as time runs out
Tick tock…., you’re in a crunch
Up goes the sign, “Out to Lunch”
Now, your face wears this pout
Oh! What a snafu!

Climbing the Ladder

Climbing the Ladder

Working night shift just to keep the paper rolling.

Putting in extra time for the wallet to expanding.

Spending days and nights on the grind so my castle stays stable.

Eliminating my adversaries with an arrow aimed at where l am going.

Mountains in the way, my aim still accurate.

Got to fulfill my legacy.

Nano-Bots

The scientist invented nano-bots
That cured cancer and other fatal ailments
They were organically based and worked
All suffering and dying was obsolete for us

And life spans were increased greatly
Then years went on and the question was
What would we do with the extra time
And why would there be children if you didn't die.

Begin Again

A babys crawl picks up lint and grime
she sits and inspects her hands
picks away the mitten yarn and rubs
her hands on her legs

The wary cat just close behind
has toys to offer share
This cat is baby's mothers cat
and more than a little aware

that mother will give extra time and treats
to baby's cat
as log as wary cat remains
friends
no cat in the hat

Winning a Semi Through a Missed Penalty

When England play semi finals they tend to draw,
losing on penalties to teams who score more,
someone will miss one of that we are sure,
repeating the fate of the England before,

The tale of the shoot out we've had to endure,
in extra time last night Harry Kane didn't score,
but the rebound he did and the nation did roar,
missing but winning, ironic galore

The Summer Looms

The summer looms, with days to fill
Since things are not routine.
No school means extra time to kill;
No rules to intervene.

Yet structure helps to pass the time,
So people won’t be bored
And having fun is not a crime;
It is its own reward.

Once plans are made, it’s extra nice
To set some time aside
To laze around and roll the dice,
For life will be the guide.

Exploring

On a little vacation
Where you’ve never been,
Just Google the town
To know where to begin.

A list of museums
Or gardens or zoos
Will give you the info
You’re likely to use.

Take a peek at a map
And chart out a cool course.
Read others’ reviews
So you won’t feel remorse.

Then set out to explore.
If the weather gods smile,
You can take extra time
And relax for a while.

Crazy Clocks

It's time to change the clocks again.
We've lost our place in time.
We're either going an hour ahead
or back again to chime.

We'll never know until were there
if we've been lost or cursed.
until we're sure we're nowhere there
than where we were at first.

When extra time is gained that way
to make us brighter for it.
In truth with time we took to chase
the hands around it's orbit.

Just Biding Time

It’s so cold this morning
On Wednesday the 1st of June
Im so happy in my warm bed
In my cosy, snug cocoon

I just can’t bring myself to get up
So I will write a little poem
Biding some extra time
Until my blood starts a flowing

So this poem is solely to bide time
Until I am brave enough to face the cold
Get out of the warmth of my safe happy place
Welcoming a new day to unfold…..

A Rose On Thorns

The mistake of one careless night
Became a plague for a thousand years
She couldn't guard her farm
And will let any man come and plough
when she was lost in the spell of ecstasy
It didn't take extra time to sow
Formed by the biology of nature
She never knew
That it baked a piece of Gold
So when for shame,
she didn't think twice
The Golden foetus was wiped out
Murder!
Another king
Didn't get to wear his crown

When I'M Gone

When I’m gone, don’t let my ashes get in your eyes…
Tell some jokes, and have a laugh… Really no need to cry…
When I was a kid, I said I’d never make it to 25…
I guess everything since then has been extra time…
When I’m gone, please don’t dress in black…
Get a brightly colored dress from the used dress rack…
Drink a toast and hold it up, as you smile with your glass in the air…
You can think of me as in a better place, but I’m still not sure where…

When I'm Almost Gone

Been quite some time I have been here
Starting my seventy sixth year
Memory can leave me alone
My private fortress, cracks have shown
Oh, ebbing, trickling bits each day
Doesn't hurt, it's really okay
Some think that's just part of being
Could be I'm finally seeing
Sometimes I hide behind the rhyme
Gives me that little extra time
Since I'm slowly slipping away
To write something better to say
No matter what, hope is not gone
Perhaps starting a brand new dawn

Creativity

Necessity is said to be
The mother of invention
But creativity, as well,
Takes on a new dimension

When there are lots of hours at hand
With room for contemplation;
A wisp of an idea may sow
The seeds of innovation.

Our former lives were occupied
With work and school and travel,
Such busy-ness our knotted brains
Had no chance to unravel.

But extra time within the day
Lets whimsy glow and glisten,
Igniting those creative sparks
Since we have time to listen.

Melancholy Memory

A bouncing puppy,
So cute and full of life,
A small cuddly bundle
In my arms…

A naughty young dog,
Fails dog training classes,
Full of mischief and fun,
He’s my boy…

Loves to be cuddled,
Treated like a baby
Indoors; but when outdoors,
A wild thing…

Personality
So strong, mind of his own,
Never a dull moment
With Paddy…

A huge lump appears,
The vet gives him some pills,
Buys precious extra time,
Rest In Peace…

Art Deco Costumes Why Not

Let’s make art deco Halloween costumes this year, she said.
What are they? I asked. I do not like spending a lot of extra time.
Do a little research, she suggested. You’ll figure it out.
The easiest costume I saw was probably for a flapper.

I put fringe around the bottom of a short straight nightie.
Fashioned a headdress out of a piece of dog leash braid.
I felt like Julie Andrews in the movie Thoroughly Modern Millie
Except she probably had not worn Sketchers, but what the heck.

Thinking

Thinking is for those of us
Who have some extra time,
Especially when all those thoughts
Are written out in rhyme.

For when days are super busy
And our brains are hard at work,
It’s impossible to wallow where
Ideas or stressors lurk.

Yet when hours stretch out empty,
It’s too easy to obsess,
So what should lead to relaxing
Often veers right into stress.

Thinking’s highly overrated
For, as many people find,
Thoughts may, like invasive species,
Overpopulate your mind.
