Antietam, St. Mihiel, Belleau Woods,
D-Day, Saipan, Iwo Jima, The Bulge,

Iraq and Afghanistan.
Famous battles in American history.
Washington, Scott, Grant, Lee, Custer,
Pershing, Patton, Eisenhower, Nimitz,
MacArthur, Westmoreland, Abrams.
Famous leaders in American history.
We are all familiar with these names and places.
But what about the nameless men and women?
The faceless citizens who gave up families, jobs,
education, comfort.
The ones who gave America their blood, bodies,
minds to defend us and set others free.
Their blood has stained countless lands.
Their wounds, physical and mental,
should remind us that freedom is not cheap.
The noncoms, privates, petty officers, junior officers.
The occupants of The Tomb of the Unknown,
the Punch Bowl, the French cemeteries, Arlington,
and countless unknown graves.
The living dead who suffer from grievous wounds
and PTSD.
These are the true heroes.

the hospital corridors were as quiet as death
until loud male-sounding footsteps slapped down the hallway
I peeked out, expecting to see a doctor
I saw no one; but the footsteps were coming
click click click click click click
they stopped right at my door
a chill went through me
I thought of Mr. Eisenhower
was he okay? should I go check?
too late for that, a ghastly voice whispered
directly into my left ear.
I knew what jumping with fright felt like now.
except I was frozen, I could not even scream.
an unknown entity followed me that night
to the nurse’s station, the water fountain,
the soda pop machine, I felt it was a ghoul
not a poltergeist, not a friendly entity
I fell asleep briefly while charting.
My head jerked up as I came back.
“Better check on Mrs. McFee,” the voice hissed.
I was terrified; paralyzed with fear.
Mr. Eisenhower was okay, but Mrs. McFee had vanished.
No one ever saw her again.
a ninety-three-year-old woman who could not walk.

I consulted with Spinoza
he spoke of God and Nature
I want something ovid
that cant be destroyed
Truman and Eisenhower
grew the Military Industrial complex
but in my dreams
I cannot deny that I'm agog
but since they have gone
My life has never been the same

Nixon 'the Quaker Peacemaker' was dour

Methinks he exists to make them pissed

Only the top Air Force and Navy brass
Know of our treaty with alien planets
Authorized by Eisenhower to capture and study humans
As payment for sharing their advanced technology with the USA
Shelly stopped typing and stared at her paragraph
Would Big Brother censor her if she shared it?
Would they eliminate her and her family?
Two hours later a SWAT team knocked down her door.
They carried her off into the night.
She was screaming, but the neighbors pretended to hear nothing.
As fearful of Big Brother as she should have been.

Eisenhower’s Warning
The brightest grad students from M.I.T.
atomic physicists with soaring ambition
were hired by the armament industry
to design bombs with doomsday precision
China’s top students with noble ambitions
physicists under secret instruction
were assigned by senior army technicians
to design bombs of mega-mass destruction
Brilliant young physicists from Moscow U.
were ordered to a munitions camp
to help make the Soviet Union anew
by building super H-bombs with Putin’s stamp
So, remember before our mutual annihilation:
To get a good job—get a good education!

President Dwight D. Eisenhower
An uncommon tower of power --
Softly he spoke and unerringly
Used military force sparingly

Not party, but character defines a president
popularity fades quickly
achievements reign longer
Presidents Eisenhower to Reagan
succession of seven World War II veterans
George H.W. Bush the last
Men of service earned respect
brought dignity to the office
true leaders
Family man without scandal
even-tempered fisherman
like Apostles Peter, Andrew, James and John
Clean Air Act
Americans with Disabilities Act
Bush saw as his greatest accomplishments
Approval rating of 91 percent
after winning Desert Storm
admiration proved fleeting
Americans “read his lips”
felt betrayed when taxes were raised
president side-swiped by economic downturn
From Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,”
“The evil that men do lives on;
the good is oft interred with their bones
so let it be with Caesar…”
so not let it be with George H.W. Bush
remember him kindly
as I always will

Hester P Goldman was a loving woman, a friendly, good-looking, happy to please-you-woman.
The kind of woman you would take on vacation, and let sit in the car.
Having grown up in a loving home, she could not understand why a child would run away from their home.
The kind of woman you would like to read a book to.
Could not visualize how world has changed. She had stayed inside for years, had groceries delivered.
The kind of woman you never saw garden.
Hester P. Godman did not watch the news as it terrified her She refused to look at a newspaper.
The kind of woman who could remain optimistic.
She died in her sleep yesterday, peacefully, happily, not knowing how crazy America is now.
Not caring.
Not one whit.
Believing Eisenhower was still president.

He was a typewriter in a computer age
Never wanting to turn the next page
A married man with children that behave
And a pretty wife who was like his slave
He did the outside and she did the inside
When he directed, she stayed by his side
When in a car with her, he was the driver
And at the local pool, he was the high diver
A man stuck in the Eisenhower decade
When products sold were American made
As an NRA member, he owned a fancy gun
And a rifle to hunt raccoons just for the fun
He was really happy when Reagan had won
But not so happy when a new race had run
Today he feels dazed, confused and meek
As his party loyalty has quickly gotten weak

Schools are closed, there is no mail
And stores hold special sales.
To honor our first president,
That’s what this day entails.
Though technically, our 16th prez
Is celebrated, too.
To make a Monday holiday,
That’s what they chose to do.
The 40-something other men
Who served the USA
As presidents were not awarded
Their own special day.
So sorry Adams, Jefferson,
James Madison, Monroe,
John Quincy Adams, Jackson
And Van Buren – all are no.
Poor Harrison and Tyler,
Polk and Taylor, Pierce and Grant,
Fillmore, Johnson and Buchanan,
Hayes and Garfield – no, you can’t.
Arthur, Cleveland and McKinley,
Harrison and Teddy R.,
Taft and Wilson, Harding, Coolidge,
Hoover, also FDR…
Truman, Eisenhower, JFK,
LBJ and Nixon, Ford,
Carter, Reagan, both the Bushes
And Bill Clinton – not on board.
Last, no day off for Obama.
As to he who’s right now serving,
I can’t think of anyone who might
Be any less deserving.
