nervous feet

clues
a throwback from the forties
he stands under a streetlight
waiting for the ripper
ripper has spotted him
is not about to lurk tonight
both wise, one horrible
a killer

Her whiskers tickle
when the lights go out
hormonal huntress
on the prowl
Moonlight chasing
itsy bitsies
up the wall
a silent investigator
tap dancing silently
soft as mink and sibilant
paws poised
across a different kind of
polished slippery dance floor
criminally inclined
researching minds
a baby in her
isolation crib
for sure
soft-shoe shuffling
never bored.

Flashing their badges
Canvassing neighborhoods
Questioning potential witnesses
Explaining the forensics
Showing us how to taint a crime scene
Explaining blood spatter patterns
I sit in my chair trying to outguess them
Feeling smug, proud of myself,
Professional Lazy-boy detective.
Daring Detectives delight me
Dreaming dastardly dilemmas
Deliberating discerning dialogues
Discovering delectable dramas
Diligently dissecting diaries
Dutifully documenting details
Discreetly digging
Dutifully dialoguing
Dividing distressed details
During division of documents
Dendrites dancing delightfully
As I decipher dynamics of dramas
Depicted by distinguished detectives
We are armchair detectives
My husband and I
Yelling “lawyer!”
When they put the suspect
In an interrogation room, on TV
We are no longer amazed when the perp turns into an automatic motor mouth
Even though he was a tough guy a few seconds before, refusing to talk.
We yell out who we think did it in a
Competitive way, getting excited toward the end
Right before the perpetrator is revealed.
Shaking our heads, feeling superior, safe in the confines of
Our Lazy Boys, we have become forensic experts.
My husband is always amazed when my guesses are correct
It is not that I am that smart, it is that I guess
Everybody
In a half hour, I have yelled out every single person’s name
On the show
Covering all my bases.
Why he pretends to never catch on is anyone’s guess.
Either he has never figured it out
Or he does not care.
Meaning we might stay married another forty-seven years.
I so love my investigative angle
Peoples lives I so love to untangle
I thank my Auntie for this
