Villanelle : Hide not behind caste nor bought courtly name
[He who fears to affix his name to his face or words has something to hide unless the State is after him/her out of fear...]
Hide not behind caste nor bought courtly name
If no tyrant nor king seeks to blunt your pen
Not even Maquisards make such a claim
Lenin Mao Gandhi fear not given name
They stand by their word in the open
Hide not behind caste nor bought courtly name
Writers and poets sometimes flaunt pseudonym
Slip past the Law to fool friend behind pen
Not even Maquisards make such a claim
Some daren’t offend patrons with by-line fame
Wife child ageing mother rights will ripen
Hide not behind caste nor bought courtly name
Does the user of the second name blame
Circumstances or his own fears open
Not even Maquisards make such a claim
Fear of being caught outright in this game
May make hidden causes énergumène
Hide not behind caste nor bought courtly name
Not even Maquisards make such a claim

Written words by James Edward Lee Sr. 2021©
A spirit came on a moonlit night
To seek a maid to be his wife,
And there he saw her passing fair
As she was going up the stair.
“Pardon, Miss, I’d like a kiss,
Please turn your eyes to me;
For you look sweet and we could sleep
Through all eternity.”
The lady paused and looked around
And seemed to be alone,
But a midnight wind had gotten in
And chilled her to the bone.
The days passed by, the neighbors came
And bring her back they tried.
Though she lay in the gloom of that cold, cold room,
She had left to become a bride.
I saw you today
the sun swirled around your beauty
and I envied it's chance to dance with you
in a glorious eddy of entanglement
I wanted to speak to you of love
but time and space seemed to always block my way
and others always seemed
to be there to build a wall between you and me
And so once again
I spent my day
just being with you
but never telling you of my thoughts
that have taken to slumbering in the refuge of my mind
Now those thoughts tell tales
that have no concerns for keeping silent
I saw you today
and birds sang of your extravagance
it was a melody that cradles one's soul
and draws water from one's eyes
I wanted to join in
but my cowardice
gave counsel
to spend my time looking on from afar
It told me it was far better
to boldly love you with the love of knights
Submissive squire on his foot
Helping his best knight, to put
On the weapons o’ not so cute
Beautified horses galloping,
The sharpen swords clanging,
And wooden poles jousting,
While this beauty, mocks by tear,
Huddling, silently, in her own fear
Because of her one and only dear
For her love,
She prays of-
“Use the speed o’ thy eyes, oh knight o’ mine
For a love to dwell, forever, in arms o’ thine!”
