One of those castoff items that we shove
Promptly deemed ‘junk’ upon a second glance.
I hid you on the highest shelves above
With a slim ‘someday’ of a second chance.
In solitude you stoically withstood
The cruel confinement you were sentenced to.
With dogged demeanour of solid wood
You kept your composure as if you knew.
Oft butting heads over your checked acts,
My late dad and his dad battled so well.
Though I delved not in your strategic tracts,
My grandsons set you free from jail cell spell.
That chessboard - centrepiece I now hold dear,
Your pieces shine, each one is carved with love.
When boys butt heads I smile in silent cheer,
Imagine dads are smiling from above.
Artifacts may lose temporary trend,
Then triumph tenfold in the timely end.

Eager children await sweet treats
And colourful bags that have been filled
As well as pumpkins lined up to greet
Their tricks make the treats increase
All of the kids are thrilled
Eager children await sweet eats
A Jack-o-lantern is the centrepiece
And a black cat has just appeared
Pumpkins flicker along the streets
In scary ghosts, there's no belief
Ghost hunters are thrilled
Reaching out their hands for treats
Singing to the beat
Of cupcakes colour-sprinkled
Pumpkins are chanting along the street
Tonight, there'll be a feast
As Halloweeners' wishes are fulfilled
Eager witches give kids sweet treats
As ghouls and goblins fly to drumbeats!

I don't know why some flowers bother,
To unfold their petals so late in the day,
At this time of year,
When there is such a nip in the air.
They might as well have stayed tucked up in their bed,
As come morning, I will only have to cut off,
What is left of their head,
With no chance of giving them even one peek,
In the hallway mirror,
To see themselves in full bloom,
Or to become the centrepiece on a well laid table,
For the guests to marvel at,
And comment on their rare beauty,
As they gently fondle their delicate petals.
Oh, what a cruel fate awaits those flowers,
Who fail to show up at their appointed time,
Giving no thought to the weather,
Or for the one getting out of bed to cut off their head,
And replace them with ones from the corner shop,
That will see themselves in the hall mirror,
And become a centrepiece at the table.

Nestled high upon a pillowing cloud
Hidden from prying eyes
Surrounded by fragrantly perfumed blooms
The imagination runs then flies
Balconies envelop the building within
French doors that open out wide
A welcoming feel takes over
Pulling you deep inside
Marble floors that are glossy and shine
Collectable art hangs from each wall
Chandeliers that are a centrepiece
A warm feeling welcomes all
Imagination takes you through a portal
Suddenly you run then fly
Soaring up high to a pillowing cloud
To your castle in the sky

Patriotism is in the air,
And sentiments high,
Cataclysm is over,
Liberation heaves a sigh!
Insufferable inequality,
Now is ineffable ecstasy,
Undeterred determination,
And honourable judiciary !
Providential independence,
Undisputed Unification,
Living to credence,
Spirit of nationalism!
All men created equal, by creator endowed with certain,
Unalienable rights- life, liberty and pursuit of happiness!

She is the face of perfection
Facet for affection
Divine connection
A woman's desired reflection
The ideal direction
She is the forest, the rain
On the throne she reigns
She is the wind, the sea
As far as the eye can see
The little things remind you of her humanity
A laugh, a yawn,
A smile, a frown,
If it were not for these signs, then she could have fooled me
On the outside, she is the cosmic masterpiece
Her shining eyes are the centrepiece
Her heart is her mouthpiece
Her voice is enigmatic peace
Her radiance does not decrease
On the inside, she is the ideal city
The Platonic utopia
The Aristotelian polity
A constant state of oxyopia
An esoteric serenity
An ineffable identity
And she satisfies both the rational human and animal appetite
A perfect Manichean dualism
A yin-yang balance of energies
The source of all remedies
Therefore, she cannot be mine
For she is a paragon, and that is the sign
That I should know better
Save the best for the best
And let fate treat the rest

Does it matter the situation,
The time, or place of year?
No matter the fierce or fair sky,
The weather heightens my fear;
The constant whisperings of the wind,
The sharp slap of the rain,
Frostbitten lips, too bitter to kiss,
Their conspiring condemns me insane.
Flew from the nest of squawking beaks,
To the solitude of a stranger’s life,
Thought my transformation was complete…
When the black eye glared a knife;
I saw her infectious nature,
I know her to be unjustly cruel
But, her slight jaded judgement
Left rabid insecurities to rule.
Like the ever hungry child
My itch for acceptance grew,
In my faltering smile, I clenched
My sanity, a fast fading view
Of my piece of mind left me, pinned
To my old, festering table of shame,
The grand sacrificial centrepiece,
A personal despair, my name,
Who grasps my failure tight
As an ugly tone, deaf to the touch,
Before I whisper to the haunted night,
I shudder at my apprehensive clutch.
