Patriotism

Patriotism is in the air,
And sentiments high,
Cataclysm is over,
Liberation heaves a sigh!

Insufferable inequality,
Now is ineffable ecstasy,
Undeterred determination,
And honourable judiciary !

Providential independence,
Undisputed Unification,
Living to credence,
Spirit of nationalism!

All men created equal, by creator endowed with certain,
Unalienable rights- life, liberty and pursuit of happiness!

** last two lines have been taken from Abraham Lincoln's centrepiece of rhetoric ( in Gettysburg address of 1863) and is a well known statement on human rights

I had India in my mind when I wrote this one,, it's as true for every patriotic person be it any country he belongs to! Then to give it a tinge of America,, added words by Lincoln ! Yes true Gandhi is known to all,, But we have greater personalities to reckon maybe Less known to world,, Swami vivekanand, Sardar vallabh Bhai Patel and my fav Chanakya !

Excellent write, Upma. You reach out beyond the usual patriotic jargon; this calls for tangibility of ideals. A top 7 rating for you. // paul

Thank you so much for ur exclusive comments Paul! Patriotism is so Alive in all, as evident from many tremendous writes! But why shud there be territories n wars is my ques,, why do humans need to fight against own species just for lands which is nobody's ??

Love this write my friend. Patriotism is most often seen by the world in the sacrifice and defense of a nation. Yet cheering good works is patriotism to a higher calling. America once stood as a beckon of freedom to the world. Now with its leader it squanders its past and promises so much less.

patroitism is a funny thing, it has a way to become mindless and overly emotional without reason, real patroitism is hard work to many believe its carrying a flag and guns screaming this is mine...as if they could own the earth..when patroitism is dressed in fear its not patroitism it's fear

Thnx for very thoughtful comments Frederic ! It's a sentiment I agree ,, spending too much on defence,, yes it's due to fears of being subdued,,wars in name of patriotism ,, blur on humanity,, real patriotism would be fighting against inequality,, that's what I construe of patriotism truly,, Not fighting for territories,, fights n bloodshed r real blot on humanity!
