Best Very Softly Poems
I'll just step
very softly,
tip toe,
on this blank page.
My inner critic?
fast asleep!
Perhaps
I'll tap dance,
lightly,
while he snores.
For freedom
has a jazz band beat
...soon twirling dizzily...
Shhh!
The prison guard stirs.

Well, I jumped across the earth to the other side
and found myself in a place called Mexico
I wanted to home so I told them lies
about what I thought how much I hated it here
I left my green card in my passport
and I left my passport alone at home
So I walked to a bar in a place called Mort
and I had whatever they gave to me
I woke up later with some energy
So I walked down to the beach to swim it off
it was getting dark and I lost all since of me
at last request I stayed the night with ?Maria?
I spent day two ATVing down the drive
and spent my money on a donkey
I got bit by a rattlesnake on the ride
no one helped me but I stayed alive
I limped to the nearest shelter
and I drank some more anyway
until someone screamed to go help her
as I turned around to see a dying girl
I gave her a hand and we fell in love
I still can't explain how it pulled it off
or what she was dying from- some-thing?
we slept on the couch of the bartenders club
In the morning we ran away
to find another job to pay
for my trip home in May
and all my boss had to say... was:
How was your stay in Mexico?
and I spoke very softly
in spanish I never knew
"Nunca encontré un Taco Bell"
And that's the story of what I went through
Heavenly bliss
Shawn and Shauna fell deeply in love
And were on their way to be wed
When a car, on that day, took their lives straight away
As both of their bodies, lie dead
But their spirits were both drawn to heaven
As they stood, in front of the gates
Saint Peter was there, at the top of the stairs
When Shawn hollered loudly “Just Wait"
Now Peter looked puzzled, at Shawn
And said "This is no time to tarry "
Shawn spoke again, and refused to go in
Without being properly married
Saint Peter replied very softly
"We don't do that kind of thing here
But if you're willing to wait,
“I’ll see if I can, get it cleared”
Three months went by, while they waited
Saint Peter, show up with a Priest
"I know it was slow, But I want you to know
You’ll be married Forever at least"
As the wedding was getting started
Shawn asked a question, with doubt
What happens here in heaven
“If this marriage just doesn’t work out”
A silent filled up the heavens
Saint Peter, was shaking his head
And once he regained his composure
This is what Saint Peter said
“It took Three Months to find a Priest
In this Heavenly Foyer
How long do you think, I’ll take for me
To Find you both a Lawyer
The Christmas when Santa got Fat
Kris Kringle rubbed his belly; he was feeling really hungry indeed
Mrs Claus had put him on a diet of what he felt was chicken feed
Brussel Sprouts and Lima Beans and lots of Spinach Green
Life’s unfair when you’re Santa Claus and still your wife is mean.
So what if he‘d piled on the pounds and his belly was very round
He could surely fit down any chimney without the slightest sound
Oh well he thought its Christmas eve , children would put out some snacks
Milk, Cookies and Candy Cane would put his tummy back on track.
He got into his silver sleigh and heaved a mighty sigh
Rudolph, , Prancer and Vixen waved to Mrs. Claus goodbye
He was really very hungry the clouds had begun to look like food
Then again if he asked his reindeers, they would be so very rude
They all agreed with Mrs. Claus, Santa was rounder in his seat
They hadn’t even let him carry his goodie bag of sweets
The last place on his list was the house of Jill and Joe
Aha he fit down the chimney and he heaved a mighty ho
He placed the doll and toy train right underneath the tree
He saw the milk and cookies and rubbed his hands in glee
He ate and ate the yummy snacks till his pants felt very tight
Cheerful now he began to feel Christmas Eve was a jolly good night
They he tried to climb up the chimney but heavens he couldn’t get back
He wriggled and squirmed but had to agree his middle was very fat
Rudolph, Prancer , Vixen he very softly called
You’ll have to pull get me out of here I can’t seem to move at all
The reindeers whinnied suspiciously what Santa felt was a nasty laugh
He now agreed sheepishly why his food had been cut down to half
They heaved and with a mighty yell, Santa came flying out
It was a good thing it was still midnight for no one had heard him shout
When they reached back home the reindeers gleefully recounted the tale
When he saw Mrs. Claus’ angry face, he began to get very pale
But when she gave her sweet belly laugh, Santa heaved a sigh of relief
It’s a good thing they got you out my dear before they thought you were a thief!
It’s a stricter diet for you this year before you revisit Jane and Joe
Or else instead of the chimney, you will have to ask to use the door!.
I love watching the snow fall,
very softly and gently to the ground.
The blanket turns from summer green,
to a blanket of ivory flakes.
Once whiter than white,
now ivory from the soot in the air.
What part do we play,
in this changing world we live in.
For better or for worse,
we all live here together.
Maybe one day the ivory flakes,
will return to the white snow.
A Night Walk, Nature Then Talks
Forgotten, my life,my dear sweet sorrows
images fading fast as deeper I invade.
Nature sings, cares not for our tomorrows
nor our vanities we so foolishly made!
Forrest path was wide and very well worn
I had walked hundreds of time before.
This night my mind and my heart both torn
my wife had just walked out the door!
My flashlight was not needed much at all
full moon spraying light on the ground.
I reflected back to our love and its fall
how love troubles follow me around!
Yet farther I went, calmer my soul became
mother Nature sensed my agonizing pain
She was assuring that she'd be the same
giving me a renewed spirit like rain!
I saw night creatures scurry all about
watching me with those glowing eyes.
My heart almost happily sang to leap out
beauty came and my mind felt the skies!
Starlight merged,shining moon cried aloud
trees then began to very softly speak
Starlit night-sky without a hiding cloud
warm tears were now wetting my cheeks!
Why O' why did my dear wife wish me to die
had not I bought her this sweet land.
Nature showed me lonely in the night sky
sometimes leaving is taking that stand!
Then an owl called out its lonesome hoot
there was healing in that great call.
Had I not my life and good health to boot
life again could be a dancing ball!
Nature moved me to settle this great hurt
to enjoy so deep the God gifted scenes.
Allow the heart to again dance and spurt
Grab onto hope by any and all means!
Forgotten, my life,my dear sweet sorrows
images fading fast as deeper I invade.
Nature sings, cares not for our tomorrows
nor our vanities we so foolishly made!
Returning now, down this old well worn path
stars and moon spraying ever brighter.
Gone were pains and my dark and evil wrath
heart and soul soothed and much lighter!

Note-- Presenting this poem , a gem from my private
journal. Forty years ago today! Written when I was
a healthy, robust young 21 years old and so full of
piss and vinegar.
The world lies silently sleeping
The day of judgement has come
This day is one of awe and wonder
But feared by many and none
I looked out across the seafront
The waters calm and still
Across the meadow was quiet
Nothing stirred on the hill
Everything was holding its breath
Nothing dare speak or move
Everything waiting, waiting
To see what it’s made to prove
Had we as a world, as one and all
Done enough to make it through?
Only the one who judges and knows
Could tell us what really was true
Fire would consume us all
Or feathers protect us from fate
Depending on the judgement
All we could do was wait
Then very softly from the sky
The feathers, through air and trees
The one who judges sent the sign
And everything moved with ease
The end of days as we knew them
Time to start over and new
The judge had passed his sentence
Repayment was now due
~So Very Softly~
(Rictameter)
Softly
Your sweet love comes
Bring all the best in me
There's love, magic in all you do
With you my whole being feels like brand-new
Your love illuminates heart, soul
Brings beautiful love song
Makes my heart sing
Softly.

If I'm not allowed to fall,
I can't learn to walk
Through peace with falling,
I rise again in strong faith
When I climb a mountain,
I see its lowest point
By peace with the lowest points,
all fears dissipate
Even while traveling,
I long to stand still
Thanks to such stops,
the journey feels more intense
Deep below my strength
I sense there is softness
Thanks to that softness,
much stronger I am
Do I choose to shine,
it illuminates what seems dark,
not remembered and
overlong unseen,
When I embrace with love,
everything that once fell
returns to a state
of purity
And just as I stand still,
I long to travel
Thanks to the traveling,
my path unfolds before me
Narrow but passable,
enlightened by love,
so if I do fall again?
Then I can only fall…
very softly

The fabric was already woven,
fine silk
the essence.
On the way out I looked
for a door,
found silk,
a cocoon.
Then I heard a key
turning in a lock
and looked.
There beneath a fire breath
an alarm was screaming.
Demons were pleading,
Let me out!
I looked again
and angels reposed
singing very softly.
The lyrics, the words
were kind,
and the instruments
played harmony.
As I myself considered this visions given truth ~
My spirit reserved unto its magnificent path....
Recognition, deep down inside that it is not I, who are a poet at all
Not as one whom would be thought although, I do sometimes write?
A verse extracted from these tempered veins; such caverns of gold ~
The greatest story ever told; time and time again....
Paintings, brushed throughout the centuries; days of old
Loving hands; so very softly do they hold, this majestic quill, before
These brightened eyes of mine; tender etchings upon the parchments
Precious blood dipped ink; the Lamb of life thus spoken
Speaking, from within this humbled heart and soul; rejoicing
Rippling waters a voice from Heaven; resounding these words; so lovely....

I really should'a read the fine print
When Evil came calling
On a fine sunny day
I was caught full napping
Didn't know what to say.
The dapper gentleman
With a Van Dyke set fine
Spoke in dulcet tones
Like sweet and mellow wine.
My name is I Levi
Very softly he said
I grant all one's wishes
Till the day they are dead.
For power and for pelf
If You strongly desire
Or bevy of beauties
To set your loins afire.
You ask me what you will
I'll grant it with a snap.
There is no hidden catch
There's no devious trap.
I had heard of dealings
With powers of the dark
Of dire trades of soul
Of hell-damnation stark.
I asked of I Levi
Of what I had to do
Just sign he smiled and said
Just common ink in blue.
Great doubts I had at first
But soon dispelled by greed
Quickly I read the script
Signed the mystic deed.
Great was wealth and power
My lot from that day on
Youth, vigour, virility
My cares and worries gone.
For full twelve months I lived
A life that Bacchus shamed
Wild, wanton, to the brim
No rein could make me tamed
Then one fine sunny day
While wining with a wench
Came Levi with a smile
And a terrible stench.
Your Time's up, my dearie,
He most cheerfully said
You are now Satan's guest
As now that you are dead.
I pleaded and begged
My tears started to sting
I told him of the deed
Where there was no such thing.
Softly Levi told me
What that day he had said
I grant all one's wishes
Till the day they are dead.
Your time here is ended
As ordained on Above
Your soul will be taken
Your Corpus feel the plough.
I've now learnt my lesson
Rather late in the day
Caveat Emptor holds
The fine print's always there.
I really should'a
Most carefully read da
Fine print then, Goddamn it!
In a basin of jewelled bronze
The leaves lay
Many colours
Of many shades
To become a tapestry
Trees never die
They are forever made
A soft wind blew
Gentle on the leaves
The Queen took them
Kissed them too
Made many
Threads spun
Magical weaves
The trees have begun
Upon the cloth
A mighty tree grew
In shades of green
Of soft leaf
Texture of bark
Of branches, seen
The trunk grew strong and tall
Of threads spun
Texture of bark
I can hear its’ heart
The first of many
The trees have begun
Branches reached out to play
Touching the sky
The joy
To see how it grew
Everyday
The leaves from the basin
Of jewelled bronze
Carried by the summer queen
With a soft kiss….
One by one
They were blown onto the tapestry
The leaves multiplied
Faeries darted back and forth
Sewed each one
Of threads spun
Woven magic
The tree has begun
The heart of the tree
Could be heard
Very softly sighing
The first of many
Upon a tapestry
Where leaves were laid
Branches reached out
Touching the sky
That a Queen made
To a castle door
Leaves were left
Memories of suns
and seasons
For trees never die
Of threads spun
Woven magic
The trees have begun
I crossed the stream and as I did I felt the living water refresh my soul.
And while I was still in the process of walking across the stream, I could
feel the water get very warm, as it washed my feet before I stepped over to
holy ground. Then I was finally standing before Him. My total height barely
reached His nose. I could not even look into His face because of His brilliance.
"Am I killing you now?" He asked me very softly, very sweetly.
"No. I love you," I said as a single tear dropped from my eye.
"I know that you do."
"I know that you won't bite me."
"And yet you hesitate," He said.
"Yes, because I love you so much, I would never want to let you go,"
I told Him, shaking as I did so.
"Is that so bad?" He asked me in an ever softer voice than He had yet used.
More tears were starting to make their way down my cheeks.
"I love you so much little one, that I could never let you go. Now do what
you fear the most," He commanded.
I did. I hesitantly touched His mane. It was so soft, yet slightly coarse.
His scent was like a bouquet of roses.
He kissed me gently on my face, gently kissed the tears running faster down
my cheeks. I threw my arms around Him as far as I could, and cried until
I could cry no more. Then a little while later, a feeling of utter peace came
upon me.
"Did I kill you my beloved child?" He asked me, as He passed on to me the
warmest feeling of love that I had ever experienced.
"No. I love you," I said to Him again, because there was nothing else that I could
find to say.
"Then that's all that matter love," He said.
A little while later my dream vision was gone, but I was not sad.
I knew that we would meet again one day, and then I would stay
there forever with the One I love best. To this day the Great Lion
of Judah inspires me as I write poems, lyrics, poetic forms of stories
and essays. There is no greater love in my lifetime than the love I
have for Him. I hope that my personal relationship with Him encourages
all who read my given works to more fully encompass Him in their lives
you will be glad you did!
