Best Thankful Poems
For tinsel trees, lights so bright, and a man in red
who rides a sleigh led by deer – delivering things
to make kids smile; for candy canes and gingerbread!
Be thankful for the joy the Christmas season brings.
For sweet holiday romance and the mistletoe,
family togetherness and a choir that sings
glad tidings, causing hearts with love to overflow.
Be thankful for the joy the Christmas season brings.
For the reason we recall what the season’s for:
for one star seen from afar by three wise kings
that led them to the miracle child Mary bore.
Be thankful for the joy the Christmas season brings.

The rain that seemed to wash my hopes away
Left an amazing gift for me to find
Beyond the puddles that remained behind
New signs of life revived one summer day
I had not planted anything at all
'Twas Mom who wanted me to find this prize
Her efforts surely took me by surprise
Three decades passed; her smile I can’t recall
But in the yard where she drew her last breath
A bed of Four O’Clocks awoke one day
It was as if my Mom were there to say
“My love for you survived beyond my death”

“Thankful Poetry Contest” hosted by Tania Kitchin
for my daughter, Lily Belle
Having crawled through a crack in my third-story window,
I drift, this night, to a familiar place
in search of age in a more youthful face,
far from cathemeral carnage below;
Though adrift, I drift unlike a drifter drifts, but drift as snow:
weightless in winter, like holiday lace.
I travel ‘til sunrise; day’s first rays erase
the darkness behind me I made myself know;
And then, in a meadow where Lilies grow,
I land and wrap myself in love’s embrace.
I am thankful then, now, for all my daughter’s grace,
for loving the father who once let her go.

I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth.
I'm thankful for that.
I know the value of a dollar.
Everything I have I've had to earn myself.
I'm thankful for that.
I have a reason to hold my head up and be proud of my accomplishments.
I was born, raised and live in a free society.
I'm thankful for that.
I take for granted freedoms others only dream of.
I was raised to be charitable and to help others.
I'm thankful for that.
Otherwise I might look down on those less fortunate than myself.
I was taught not to be cruel and uncaring.
I'm thankful for that.
I could have become a very unkind person.
I am not wealthy. I work hard for everything I have.
I'm thankful that I can.
I'm thankful for good health, my job, my home, my car and all that I call mine.
I was raised to know there is a Creator and that He loves me and wants me to know Him. He already knows me.
And I'm Thankful For That.
Royal Matriarch
Beloved, cherished, idolized
Who could this person be?
A pop star or the president?
A hot celebrity?
Not even close, ten cuts above
A modest hero reigns
A selfless woman, strong and bold
A beauty with the brains
This person is no other than
The royal matriarch
The solid rock beneath our feet
Our night light in the dark
A shoulder for our heavy hearts
An ear to catch our plight
The silver lining through it all
Our wings when we take flight
Happy Mother’s Day to you
My mother, my dear friend
If words relayed my gratitude
My book would never end…
1st place!

I’m Very Thankful!
I’m very thankful for everything the Lord has made...
Everything he’s created… His beauty is displayed!
I’m very thankful for the breath I have to breathe…
Until that one day, from this earth, I shall leave.
I’m very thankful for the way God has made so evident.
The principles of his word… Are so relevant!
I’m very thankful for the beauty and glory he’s shown…
It has brought blessings and healing to my home!
I’m very thankful for the many things he’s done for me…
He’s given me his love which flows abundantly!
I’m very thankful that each day,.. Is another to live for him…
He’s taken away my pain and has forgiven every sin.
I’m very thankful that I can write
these words from my heart.
I know that he’s with me. And he’ll never depart!
I’m very thankful that you’re reading
what I’ve been saying…
May this cause you to once again start praying!
I pray that this same Jesus I know…
Who’s merciful and kind…
Will speak words of hope to you
and give you a peace of mind.
I pray that before you go to bed and this day has ended.
You’ll allow Christ to have your heart “amended.”
Thank you Lord! For what you’ve
done and are going to do…
It’s another way that I can say
“I LOVE YOU!”
Thank you Lord! For all that I‘ve
received and so much more…
You’ve made my life complete…
And are worth living for!

Thanksgiving and Thankful
Written: by Tom Wright
My heart was burdened with much concern,
For a person whom God placed in my path;
While the rationality I did not easily discern,
Obedience allowed me to escape His wrath.
This assigned duty which was bestowed,
To me alone, & 'twas from God conveyed.
a friendship from this single act has flowed,
From those incessant prayers once prayed.
Your captivating sonnet, a single verse then
two, the words I write seem not quite right
compared to the ones from you
I've often used too many, and consume your
point of view, your ability to say so much
by using just a few
Thank you Mr. Shakespeare for a friend I met
today, because of you she's come from many
miles away. I frolic in your descriptions
of each and every noun, as each verse bursts
and like a poor beggar, quenches my thirst
I thank Mr. Poe for his stories of woe that
deeply stirs my raven soul, coercing the
sadness out of the quills, convincing me that
time kills, love heals, color spills…
I begin to write my single verse, that
might turn into two, I savor a rarest gift,
the one that came from you. I take a turn,
my desire’s to please, but discover as I
write the poem, the poetry writes me
Karen Anglesey 2002
Music is my soul’s expression,
a mirror of my deepest emotions
Its rhythm creates my mood
Its crispness takes away solitude
Music is my unique art
It speaks to me through melodies of all sorts
Its energy refreshes my surroundings
By vibrating the cords of my heart
It is the sunshine to my voice
It’s a spiritual hobby of my choice
By spreading out its meditative harmony,
It transcends the boundaries of space and time
What would I do without my music
I’m grateful for this divine gift
So, I hum some soft notes
And create some delightful chimes for the nearby souls.
Life is so ironic, it takes sadness to know what happiness is, noise to appreciate silence and absence to value presence. ~ Anonymous
I’m thankful for the rainfall
Leaking through a hot summer sky
The reflection of kindness
Twinkling in a friend’s eyes
The laughter and smiles found
On a crowded playground
The joy inside my heart and soul
As dreams light my thoughts
I’m thankful for the stars that shine
In darkness filled with hope
The sense of peace I find inside
When I’m caring for a young child
The music of faith that blends with grace
As I caress a flower with a teary kiss
The excitement and passion I feel in my spirit
When heaven pores out its blessings
I’m thankful for the hues of sunshine radiating
Across the mountains and beaches and memories
The lavender praise that falls from my lips
As whispers of dewdrops crawl on my visions
The miracle of a love that breathes promises into me
Inspiring me to give from the gratitude within
The healing and hoping, the sensations of joy
That ride my thoughts in waves of tenderness
I’m thankful for the most humble caress
Of a kind word or a faithful expression
The glow of kindness filling up my soul
As heaven opens up and pours blessings galore
The sense of assurance that comes from knowing
Love this alive is meant to bring satisfaction
The blending of scents, prayers and essences
Creates a finely laid plan for wonderful imaginations
I’m thankful for God’s love – His mercy – His grace
I’m thankful for the words that remind me that I’m saved
I’m thankful for His plan – His creation – His gifts
The promise of a home where I will forever live
I’m thankful for the moments, mysteries and myths
I’m thankful for the music that reveals His melody
I’m thankful for the One who gave me everything I am
The gift of His presence is more than I could have hoped for!
I’m thanking God for His precious love and His precious Son
I am thankful for the surgeon who saved my husband’s life
Without his intervention I could have been a grieving wife
I admit that I detested reading poetry in my younger days
Shakespeare’s works bored me; I still can’t give them praise!
I am thankful that I began writing at a time of awful stress
My husband was in surgery, my fears I could not suppress
I started to enjoy poetry, and I have embraced this change
The fact I adore writing poems, I still find pretty strange!
I am thankful for the pal who urged me to join Poetry Soup
She loved my sense of humour, and my many poems on poop
I’m blessed with many ‘souper’ pals, and want folk to know it
This self confessed poetry hater is now a twice published poet!
I’m thankful for the whispering winds and the gentle rain
And the absent sun on dark days, knowing it will be out again
The moonlit skies at night with twinkling stars shining bright
The change of the seasons and all its festive and seasonal sights
The birds who visit and sing their sweet morning melodies
Goldfinches, blue-jays, cardinals and feisty chickadees
Their daily return to feed and build nests nearby in the trees
And watching their entertaining antics as they frolic and tease
Spring blooms that I anticipate and wait for to reappear
In bright colors and scents that bring delight and cheer
The chipmunks and squirrels in my yard scurrying about
with their sputtering, chirping, and barking spouts
The fresh winter snow that cleanses and brightens the ground
and the magical moments of watching the snowflakes come down
When the air warms and crocuses and daffodils emerge through the snow
And the return of Spring when nature rejoices and puts on a beautiful show
I am thankful for the morning light
that shines through the lace curtain bright
Refreshing rain and all that blooms
with choice fruits and sensual perfume
I am thankful for the moon and the stars
I would never move to the planet mars
Retrospection of lows and highs
smiles and tears have made me wise
I am thankful for family and friends
of tides and time - until the ends
My gratitude is greater than I can express
I expect this poem to be a success
Be Thankful
When things seem so unfair
Remember what you have
A roof over your head
Food on the table
Memories made with
Family and friends
Some days can seem a drag
But you’re alive so smile
Learn to be yourself
Remain honest and trustworthy
Your work oh such a grind
Suppling pennies to spend
Providing for your needs
So be thankful
You’re in charge of what you do
Live for the day
Tomorrow’s are always there
Make life the best you can
Be happy
Laugh until you cry
Have fun always
Stay crazy if you must
Just remember
Remain thankful
Tomorrow may never come
The greatest asset, the gift You give
It's my positive perspective
