Artwork - What Am I

Scratching their heads
They look at me
Am I a tree stump
Am I a grotesque face
Inside I am laughing
I know what I am.

Am a freak of nature
Plus the imaginative mind
Of my master
Stand back
see the root of me
My ivy hair
Sightless eyes
Garland of lemons garnish my neck

I am singular
A one off piece of art
I am me ....symbolising winter.

The flash of cameras
Light my wrinkled face
Can feel the warmth of inquisition
Words float by as voices are raised
Conclusion ...no conclusion.

Giuseppe Arcimbodo painting .....Winter 1573

Premium Member Terrorism Failed

United in isolated collectivity,
Standing erect for reflective solidarity,
Sited to enable individuality,
Symbolising the dead, the loss in totality.

So many damaged people, with so much to remind,
There are tear-laden memories for those left behind.
A tangible grief can still be heard in their voices,
Faltering as they speak out about that day’s choices.

Take underground trains or avoid confused crowds and fuss,
Diverted, turned back, decided to run, catch a bus.
Explosive devices never discriminated,
Primed bombs blasted apart, London was devastated.

They ripped through metal, taking and tearing precious lives
And scarred the future for each one who survives.
Destroyed calm, delivered terror with impunity,
Suicide bombers believed in their immunity.

Now peace, time taken for moments of contemplation,
Silent thoughts that bring an end to all conversation.
Remembered faces, the past a painful looking back,
Centrally listed, names on the newly engraved plaque.

Children run, play chase, amidst the memorial shown,
As people feel emotion, cry, prove that flesh and bone
Continues to exist, to love, to laugh and to weep
But, never to forget those whose memories we keep.

United in isolated collectivity,
Defiant, standing tall in solidarity.
There to celebrate the individuality
Of the murdered dead, fifty-two in totality.

Tragically their hopes, dreams were brutally curtailed
But, ours were not; we are strong as steel, terrorism failed.

Love Weaving Harmony As Flowers In Wreath

Wreath ring of flowers holding hand-in-hand
Hands in circular unity symbolising eternity
Eternal is belief in Trinity, Christianity and Christ
Christ a Messiah rising from dead absolving sins

Sins mounting, hoping Christ to descend from Heaven
Heaven like atmosphere humans creating in Christmas
Christmas, festive season of family reunion and gift-giving
Gift-giving, symbolic love weaving harmony as flowers in wreath

With This Ring

The centre of the wedding ring has seen some of the greatest fights
Set off by the wedding bells
Shiny and sparkling, its aesthetics deceiving
By invitation only,
The contestants are lovers, often newlyweds
Candidates for eternal love and happiness
But finding only bitterness

Insecurity, jealousy, pride, ego and masculinity encircles the ring
Culture, infidelity, entangles the ring
Unforgiveness, doubt and resentment are all inscribed above
On a magic carpet ride into a spiral downward dive
A holy battle of the sexes
It doesn’t have any, but the families can be found in their corners
The gloves are off...cheap shots and elbows
There are no rules, no referee...low blows,
Anything goes

The ring is the price of ‘love’ proudly worn
Bringing doubt to what’s already won
The bouts are designed to test its dexterity
‘Fools rush in’ to divorce their opposite stupidity
The ring symbolising an unbreakable, everlasting relationship
Often loses its sentimental value, to end up at a pawnshop
Or on the other ring finger, a mere fashion accessory of dull memory
An expensive piece jewellery of unholy matrimony

‘for better or worse
till death do us part’

Cherry Blossom

A wonderful sight to behold.
Your grandeur is more
Than meets the eye.

From absolutely spectacular bloom
Until you've fallen in grace
Meeting earth, withering
Like snow with an ebb
And flow of gentle breezes.

Symbolising life;
Powerful, exhilarating, sublime
Yet short lived.
Reminding us how brief our lives are.

Sweet cherry blossom
Bringing hope,
Also dreams.
Endless opportunities bursting
Foreseeing for future reference.

Remembering loved ones
Showing life's beauty
Promising starting something new
Whilst shedding what's old.

Blessed Sakura
After all, we are you.

The Christmas Tree

I just love the Christmas tree which we welcome into our homes,
Symbolising nature, the natural, challenging our views and roams;
Settling in our cosy living rooms, the empire of many, each of us,
Independent, not asking for anything: assistance, change or fuss.

The Christmas fir tree came from Denmark, from Christians there,
From Hans-Christian Andersen in a short story in which he did care,
About children and their thoughts of growing up and finding Christianity:
He pertained that process to the growth of the majestic fir tree, big and lusty.

But I in my childhood related the tree to evolution, its process and sway,
Said that I derive from it something steady, living and quite happy;
I just ignored the original drive of Andersen’s The Fir-Tree,
For my own accepting arms for nature which accepted me.

Evolution never possesses, but awaits eternally for recognition,
Of itself, that relative, that descendant relation of honour and attribution,
It gives the right the speak and not just about itself, but about anything,
And marries a therapist in its act of anticipation, actively caring.

Evolution includes everyone, excludes none whatsoever, none at all,
The whole fluctuates by those who fall, the ordinary and the tall;
Every day behaviour ultimately affects genes which are passed on in time,
So importance is bestowed upon all, saving each one from the dumb mime.

Six-Word Couplet Series Encore

Make a wish
Raising the bar
A shooting star

The truth
The truth untold
Watch it unfold

Wings
Wanting to fly
In the sky

Sky's the limit
Dreams don't diminish
Pushing to finish

Growth
My lost tooth
Symbolising my youth

Love
Far from platonic
More than euphoric

A Ray of Hope

A speckle of green,
In a vast sea of concrete,
Quite an enchanting scene,
To the eyes a visual treat.

Through a crack in the pavement,
Slowly rises a tiny weed,
Free from all enslavement,
One in a million of its breed.

When I saw it,
My eyes filled with wonder,
Rising tiny bit by bit,
Through the cracked concrete yonder.

Insignificant to many,
Astonishing to me,
That it had arisen from such a narrow cranny,
Struggling to be free.

Symbolising a ray of hope,
In the midst of today's world,
Fighting for survival and trying to cope,
Was a plant which had unfurled.

A Dream By the Lake Side

It is always the same dream
You and I by the lakeside, watching the sun set
In silence and our bare feet feeling the stream
The fading sun closing a chapter hard to forget

It is always a cloudy and stormy night closing in
Vividly symbolising what losing you implies
Beyond the skyline the sun rapidly sinks
I’m terrified and awaken as you evanesce with the tides

When awake I keep returning to the lakeside
Hoping to rewind the dream and have it rewritten
Waiting for you to come back by my side
Hoping to hold you tight and never be awaken

Premium Member Yet I Thought

When thoughts become obsessive,
is my heart being made redundant,
laid off, cast off, sent astray
recycled pulse rates mere skip hire fodder,
atrophied organ sinking into deep morass,
panic stricken warning notice object,
abject part indigenous scarred,
or scared from sudden rupture,
once a golden seal enactment,
the intensity of love and verdant pathways,
but thoughts they zigzag devious,
without a leash, curb or rein,
they stray like homeless after dark drifters
whose piercing blue eyes scupper vagrant mist,
but oh those torrid thoughts,
of past romantic Himalayan peaks,
where nostalgic loitering a back to front yen,
currency of tantalising moment,
fluctuating in a reckless high stake instrument,
cliff top shudder inadvertent plunge,
yet each thought I used to frolic with,
in meadows of a mythic mystic mind,
we’re so glare blind and delusional,
dragging me on circuitous dandelion epiphanies,
symbolising gurgle stream limestone cave exit,
some dual world attachment barely visible,
detachment on aloof scorched red wood boundary,
thoughts are like those joined at hip beings,
feeding off the actual mesmerizing carousel,
of fleeting guests and life events,
or so it seemed, perhaps it’s just a thought,
of all those things that never settle in one spot

Premium Member Passion, Purity and Power

The colour red has much meaning
it reveals so much energy to express
providing a passion that knows no end
action in the battlefield to victory no less

The lady who's young and so attractive
wears that red outfit makes the lad's click
has got them really under her spell
her lips so tempting with that deep red lipstick

When one thinks of white so pure
God promises the pure will see Him
in the real spiritual life of heaven
blessing upon blessing up to the brim

That young innocent girl dressed in white
symbolising the purity of the wedding bride
she's kept herself for her sweetheart
being sure to stand in life side by side

Consider that's blue of such variety
such a colour of the spiritual effect
this signifies God's healing power
moving among His own to direct

God knows all that are weak
He's able to touch just the right spot
spiritually is where they need progress
the Lord heals to show what He's got!

(The meaning of the colours Red, White and Blue.
Red: energy, passion and action
White: Purity
Blue: The healing power of God)

Stars of My Hope

Twinkling in an empty sky
Emerging even when the dawn
Puts in a misty face
Heralding the birth of another day
Even in this jungle.

Here again begins my journey
While outside my hut
Here in the open space
I in upward gaze see
A lone-mirthful star
Sitting calmly in his misty azure
Symbolising peace.

Then I see another here
Another there
Manifold stars like guests
Feasting on my star of hope.

Lament of My Life

In a world of love I was befittingly born,
A time of respect and appreciation;
In one instinct I became destitute,
With one wrong step I fell into depreciation.

It had nothing to do with love or hate,
Money matters were neither the case;
In one instinct a life was dismantled,
By falling into alcoholic gripping paws.

The world of love became a world of fantasy,
The status of mind was neither there or here;
A life filled with downs and never ups,
A time when I constantly quaked with fear

A family who brought me up with dignity and love,
Yet the presence of alcohol was never absent;
The elephant in the room was ever absent,
Decent people living with benign content.

Now I have been released from life,
I have ample time to think and contemplate;
Would I destroy the gracious grape seed?
So it will never make my life disintegrate?

Would I be able to eliminate the alcoholic thought?
I’ll reinvent a justified reason for its production;
Though alcohol is also an ingredient of cleanliness,
We mainly use it for pleasure and destruction.

I can’t condemn Jesus for symbolising a cup of wine,
A dignified metaphor that changed the world of life;
Blood spilled, blood shared, blood reassured,
Ancestry blood divided between my children an wife.

Flaming Glorybower

Blackened. Charred.
Are the blossoms of autumn's acclaimed abundance
No longer dance they in vivid wonderance,
Singed by the frigid frost,
Stand they forlorn and lost.

Barren. Desolate.
Stand the trees.
Marooned in an island of dry leaves.
Wracked by glacial winds
As deep winter imprints.

A few brave bougainvillea
Struggle in straggly strands
To defy winter's hands.
Up they climb into yellowing leaves
Cobbling colour into the sheaves.

Unfazed. Undeterred.
By mutinous nature
Munificent flames the trailblazer...
Widespread flames in riotous red
Red riotous flames widespread.

An everlasting Christmas
Bedecks the shrub in richness
Bouquets of ruby crowned in gold
Amidst emerald and jade leaves untold
It is the flaming Glorybower.

Not for it the wheel of seasons
An evergreen...it blooms in legions
Symbolising life everlasting
Even in winter's fog and freezing...
Bringing red flaming glory to many a bower
For it is the flaming Glorybower.
