Best Survived Poems
She stands
In the graveyard
Where he sleeps forever
Beneath the heavy weight of all
Her tears.

THE HOUSE SURVIVED THE STORM
The storm was bearing down on them, the warnings had gone out;
They knew the devastation would be widespread without doubt.
They knew their home was threatened as its fierceness did increase,
And once it did its damage, there’d be no standing piece.
But Father was not worried about its passing route;
Instead he told his children, “Just get the Bible out.”
And so they got the Bible and called upon God’s name;
They read its precious pages, its promises they claimed.
It promised them God’s safety when storms around did blow,
It promised them protection if to Him they would go.
They lifted up its pages to God in heaven above
And showed Him all the promises and trusted in His love.
The storm grew quickly nearer, and then it quickly veered
Destroying all around it, but leaving their house here.
When all the storm was over, they opened their house wide
To be a clean, warm refuge for others there inside.
They used it for a center where treatment was passed out
To others who had suffered and now would do without.
To this day they believe that God spared their precious home
Because He knew they’d share it with those then left alone.
And they feel that He spared it without a single doubt
Because their father told them, “Just get the Bible out.”
Although the years are many since that devastating morn,
They’ll ne’er forget that day that the house survived the storm.
Based on a true story my father’s family told him about a storm they survived.

When all the Earth's a bed & all the world's asleep,
When you dream of conquering the world, then shove away the thought & let the unheard alarm go beep, because obviously, big dreams require longer sleep,
When you dim your lights despite the birds chirping outside,
When you concur that sleeping beauty was a beauty obviously because of getting years of beauty sleep, you need it too..
But you refuse to give in,
Till the last receptor of ur brain percepts the last signal,
Till the last lash of your eye meets the eyelid,
Till the last words of the text start appearing hazy,
You won't give in..
Then,you're more than just a student,my friend..
You're much more..
You're the HEROINE of your life.
When all the forces in the universe act like a stimulus to put you to bed,
When the sunrays feel like a burden to your eyes ,& they feel heavy
When you can envisage the cozy embrace of your blanket during the cold,
And that's not all..when that pleasant romantic weather outside is not a reason enough for you to get out of your bed,
But you refuse to give in,
Till the scent of spring justt fails to tempt you,
Till your last temptation can be suppressed,
Till the vigour inside you is still alive,
You won't give in..
Then,you're more than just a student,my friend
You're much more..
You're the heroine of your life.
When the noises around don't matter,
When the constant parental nagging won't bother,
When you refuse all your friends urging you to party, because (let's face it)..people are temporary, sleep is permanent.
When it hurts because your sleep is in a relationship with everyone else but you,you feel jealous..
But you refuse to give in,
Till you're conscious enough to not fall into the toilet,
Till you can hold yourself a stabilised position,
Till you can convince yourself that coffee will help, although it doesn't..
You refuse to give in..
Then you're more than just a student,my friend
You're much more..
You're the heroine of your life.

As I contemplate over the years
I"m grateful for the sadness and tears.
My beloveth mom and dad were gone,
I felt so all alone.
The kidnapping and deceit that tried,
to rob me of my sleep,
Then You came along so I thought,
however, I was wrong.
I was'nt really alone, I just didn"t,
realize within You I was at home.
I'm older and more mature now,
I never died, because of You, I survived

I’m looking straight ahead
And I see you up ahead
Looking good
Like a winking sprite
With a winning smile
Acting as if everything is alright
While spinning yarn to twist my arm
And bring me down
I say go ahead
Play your game inside my head
Start the freak show
Show me what there is to show
So I know what there is to know
I’m all eyes
I could do this all life
I’m never going to ask why
But this I’ll try
How do you sleep at night?
I’m fighting hard, almost holding steady
I’ll tell you when I’m ready
I have to agree
Your levels are too high, top speed
So fast I can’t compete
My game is incomplete
Wait up, I’m taking a break
To catch a breath
I’m burning inside
Hurting so badly I could cry
It’s the truth and I won’t lie
I’m nursing deep cuts
Internal injuries
Not the kind treatable with a bandage
Because it’s deep, deep inside
The wound is confined
And what’s worse, you see
While the competition is breeding
I’m held in consternation, bleeding
For me it’s never easy
I’ve got to keep on breathing
In the end I did what I could
And here’s what I did
I managed to stop the bleeding
Put some ice over the bruises
And now I’m pouring wine
Over the wound
To stop this thing from becoming putrid
I’ve been a fool
But now I’m cool
I can’t find the idiom to emphasize it
Yes, I’ve been an idiot
It’s all public knowledge
All the same I’m trying to forget it
It’s water under the bridge
Last night I dreamed of you
In the field of dreams
I dreamed you were eating food
Drinking booze
And over the top feeling good
Celebrating
I threw my hands in the air
I’m vanquished
My mind’s a prison
And deep inside its cells I languish
There is no fight left in me
And no reason to lie
There is this also, this
Dimming and flickering starlight
In the distant night
You said though out of sight
I’d never be out of mind
But from where I am standing
You are already advertising

The One Who Survived
Dumb drunk
when arrested
thought he’d hit just the tree.
Beneath his car lay my brother’s
body.

cramp in both legs
as I fought the rough sea...
panic, calm, endurance; made it

This is a true event; happened when I was 18 or 19 years old.
Imagine what it’s like to swim with legs that become heavy like
lead, while at the back of your mind you know that the extra
effort could bring cramp to your arms as well!!
A ten minute distance became an eternity!

I was the man of the house, the house all alone,
Alone in the hills of the crippled gum trees.
It was a hundred years old, an original, no heating nor cooling,
Cooked in summer and in winter we’d freeze.
My 6 foot step son, built like a tank, detesting me,
And, at 15, he never talked much.
He seemed socially wooden, no comprehension,
Pulling away from his own mother’s touch.
One day I returned after a day of fake proud,
Finding all of the windows shattered, smashed.
The doors were all splintered, punch marks in the walls,
Every room had been perfectly trashed.
This was the start of 8 months of hell,
Nothing I did changed his attitude, head space or his rage.
I was covered in petrol, attacked with a butcher’s knife and a chainsaw,
I was living chained to the side of a cage.
Why did I go through this for so long?
Because I loved the love of his mum.
But why did I care about this love so much?
Because my previous marriage had been numb.
And why did I not like feeling so numb?
I hated being a spectator and watching my peers.
I hated being a spectator, why? I asked,
I wanted to feel again through happiness and tears.
Yep, there’s other drama to domestic violence
For a topic not often talked about.
Of course he was doing meth and other drugs,
It was 24 hours later that he’d black out.
So I was nearly killed often and didn’t leave home,
For one very greedy and selfish ideal.
I loved the fear of pain and fear of suffering,
It was my angst, dread and horror that I’d feel.

Life is...
Unending holes.
Your pale angelic face
Twirling in each corner of home.
You died!
