Thanks, Eve. It was a tricky one. I liked a lot of the other entries more than my own, including yours.

Steve, I thought that it sounded like a WWII movie..Yes, I have heard how that many who saw others die and they survived or suffered from severe grief and the guilt..Thanks for your entry..Sara

Sara, an interesting challenge. Thanks for running the contest. Actually, the poem was inspired by a book, The Conquering Tide, about the war in the Pacific between 1942-44. We lost many pilots and crew in various actions. I'm sure survivor guilt plagued some of the men who got out alive.

Thanks, Andrea. The inspiration was a book about the brave pilots and crews who were instrumental in winning the war against Japan.

Thanks, Lin. in fact, I liked yours better than mine; it had, I don 't know, an immediacy mine didn't have. I noticed your first place win in the Home Sweet Home contest. That was an elegant piece of writing.

A 7 for sure--so much conveyed in so few words. Janice

Not offbeat approach at all! It's common for war survivors to feel guilty over deaths of comrades. Janice

Thanks, Janice. Kind of an offbeat approach to the challenge. Not sure it'll fly.
