Best Subtleties Poems
Your tapestry
weaved with strands of light
Contrasted with threads of black
A marvelous mosaic
of a wondrous soul
I drape you over me
Feel your warmth
am nurtured
I hear the tune of you
Singing your happy songs
Yet if I listen
Closer
just a little closer
I am drenched with your tears
The alternate other you
I open you up
Lay you on the ground
Marvel at the intricacies of you
All the subtleties
The bold designs
Shapes I could never imagine
You are magnificent
Breathtaking
Awe inspiring
Contrasts co-existing
Harmony within each part
I resist the urge
To fold you up
Place you on a shelf
Keep you all to my self
A treasure just for my eyes to see
I look around
It's not up to me
You are connected to all
Other tapestries and endless sea
carried away by them you us and me
So I marvel and just let you be
Magnificent
Funny
Beautiful
Complicated
Lovely
Breathtaking
You
Written on my birthday in 2013.
My birthday is September 8th. (Just in case you want to get me a gift *lol*)
Sacred Gratitude
Rockin and Rollin inside my soul
Beckoning musical notes float within me
My heart surrenders and opens
Expanding
When the world outside dances in tension
Feeling bleak and unforgiving
I am grateful to receive
Simple nuances of pure magic
Breathing into my being
Allowing a journey to the place
Between here and now
Standing in dense forest
I approach one of the gentle giants
Her redwood bark burned and blackened
Fires and history tattooing her skin
Fury red growth emerging
Her new coat of velvet delight
Limey baby branches
Make their way to the air
Thirsty for light
A deep hollow near her base
Where I can walk inside
Blackness..soft spongy bark
Touches my fingertips
A dreamy pause
Almost silent
An internal space
Quiet gratitude as I look up.. up..up
Hundreds of feet to a circle of light
Glimmering above
Sunlight trickles in
Kissing my eyelids
Diamond dust reveals
Her burnt underbelly
I stretch my arms up high above me
Sliding them into the sleeves
Of her gigantic branches
As I become her
Arms...limbs full...stretch.. radiating
Rising up ...my head tall
Viewing nature’s mesmerizing tapestry
Woven yellows and greens
Meadows, springs, water lapping nearby
Echoes of bird calls
A white snowy owl lands on my limb
Quiet gratitude as I see her blink
Her wise old eyes
Rotating her white feathered head
Counterclockwise so she may see
The entire circumference
Of her surroundings
Oh dear owl
Sister of the universe
I hear your silent whispers
Feed my soul with your insight and wisdom
I am grateful for your guidance
As I journey through subtleties
Of acceptance, challenge, and bliss
Arriving at compassion
For life and for others
Promises are made to be kept, though they are wrapped in a cocoon of razor wire.
The words that fall out of your mouth turn into insects, and are instantly
consumed by the reptiles. Everything consumes everything, all God's creatures go
below. It is quite evident that our souls at one time were of a single unit prospering
and thriving. Ripping through the Cosmosphere. Splitting and burning
endlessly. Scattered about, only to be reunited. This magnetic pull I feel is
not of me. This longing I have to be with you is unnameable. I don't fear it. I
don't fight it. I want to embrace it, understand it. the unexplainable is
definitely one of life's more perplexing subtleties.
The brook follows the path of least resistance
It does not confront obstacles
It embraces them
Nature knows not war
The landscape is tranquil, peaceful
Nature likes it that way
Rolling shades of green sprinkle the velvet hills with
A myriad display of colorful flowers
Flaunting the multi-hues of the rainbow
The eye follows the brook’s unimpeded meandering path
A Monarch jig-jaggedly flies in glee
Its life will shortly come to an end but
That’s Nature’s way too
A dark brown and brittle dry leaf
Detached by a tender wind
Floats and softly lands on a fallen twig
It remembers where it came from
Clear water caresses the rocks underneath,
Whispering sweet, gurgling, purling sounds
Its watery arms embraces the smooth stones
As it fills the cracks between them
This is Nature making love with passion
Subtleties which go unnoticed to the human eye
Are nevertheless relevant in their spirit
As life unfolds its evolution.
When we make love. who sees us?
Sometimes we don’t even see each other
We often forget that love is tender, giving,
Nurturing, healing and compassionate
Nature knows this –
We should too.
No one scoops up the vast subtleties
Of my mind's water
Quite like the hands that adore me most
There are no holes,
No overflows, nor spills
This soul does not filter away the essence,
Does not pluck the bloom before it has shown its worth,
Nor does his powerful hands have a heart to ever remove it
From its marshy field of poetic influence
But when it rots,
He simply refuses to discard
And instead regards pollution with avid wonder
For he knows with a nod I have it in myself to teach
And I have it in myself to heal these inner hells
So when these waters flow freely again
In search of new blooms and clear horizons,
I will find his precious hands sifting, provoking the currents
Admirably never losing sight of our love's purpose
Leapin' lizards up in dem’ gizzards, something we call the creepy crawl. And her womb spew forth blasphemy, and her lips uttered deceit. Black alters in Bone orchards. Praise hell syndicate burn down this town and everyone in it. Red lights…, blood lust. Ambrosia, with her hair so fare. Clearly obvious why the gods chose her. Devourer of subtleties... Tenderest of vittles. I know at night your bones up and come to life causing mischief. All monkey minds in devil times, chatter chatter, screechhhh... All lost, no hope. And then there was you. Burn down the temple and sing. Eyes bare witness to the rise of her. Dance to the rhythms of a free will symphony. Bleed from thyn eyes,... I don't mind. Bliss bliss and heaven. Your absence is the bane of my existence.

Wisdom murmurs amid paucity of things—
seekers contemplative in cross-legged trance.
Pondering vaguities pensive meditation brings—
to apprehend with nonchalance of glance.
While to acolytes, such subtleties impinge—
denied are those of stifled grasp.
For in their minds a fetid dinge,
mundane failure to enclasp.
Stunted ones thus held in thrall,
ever signal their incurious pose.
While unmuted is a mounting wrawl,
from those abhorrent in appose.
The blind above in fog would lead,
who daily task us for our gaze.
They tire us with unending screed,
and we ignore while they abrase.
Rather would I summon stillness—
watch quiet water smooth a stone.
Free myself of this world’s illness—
love gently life I choose alone.
Being HSP:
Sound drowns out sound, I'm found overwhelmed,
...there's a chaos that's building inside.
My thoughts won't relent, my emotions are spent,
...and my angst just can't be denied.
With lights that are bright, and pains out of sight,
...this souls ecosystem is a fragile thing.
Like I'm frozen in winter, set to shatter and splinter,
...desperate for the early onset of spring.
My mind has been had, so "Am I broken too bad?"
...the nagging question stirs from within.
But, don't fret for me, nor yourself you must see,
...this isn't where our story comes to end.
We're stronger than we know, don't cut yourself low,
...being what we are is a privilege to few.
With gifts we have plenty, and we're heartfelt to many,
...those who care know there's no one like you.
Some of this may not fit, but others do, you must admit,
...we all have our own strong proclivity.
With our rich inner lives, and on subtleties thrive
...we have imagination and creativity.
Some of us are wise, some are passionate, some advise,
...we are as beautifully arrayed as the stars.
We are empathetic, some artistic, while others scientific
...lift your chin, don't give in, own HSP, it is ours.
Your compassion is unique, with kindness others seek,
...Those who know you set you apart.
Don't regret these great gifts, your word it uplifts,
...people look up to you for your deep heart.
I must leave you with this, whether unhappy or in bliss,
...we are bigger than the weaknesses we see.
Don't forget that we're rare, with this trait that we share,
...I'm thankful that you're in this with me.
the beauty of subtleties
there are one thousand shades of grey
each separate and distinct
across this desert month.
low gravid clouds puffed,
like the breasts of flocking doves
touch the earth transforming
to pearlescent, pale white gauze
caught in reaching branches.
steely water on the bay,
life sheltered far below,
rolls smooth as oil swells
dappled with foam.
ancient almost-dust leaves
kick up on my boot toe
as I scuffle through the wood
between beach and silver birch.
an owls lonely cry echoes
as it brushes by overhead
softsilent perhaps hunting
field mice or rabbits
November is gentle
in its iron frosts. calm, still,
as though waiting
a canvas barely sketched upon.
Aloha, Connie Marcum Wong
A fellow islander, here in the State of Hawaii
Plain common folks in touch with its aina (land)
Noticed by many soupers long before this tadpole swam the pond
Well-grounded, skilled with a pen, with a memorable persona,
In my view, I became a welcomed homey, charmingly receptive, in a comfortable regular confab of subject subtleties to filling, reflections of a lifetime,
From our friends to our families to our Hawaii ~~
...of a gorgeous floral lei, imagined or realized
...both pales in comparison
...Aloha always
...my blessings,

Pick a Friend on Soup
~~Bobby May
I recognize the subtleties of love
its reality
is easy to see.
An emotional gift sent from above
to both the frightened
and the enlightened.
I understand the desire for passion's flame
and sense how disappointment can turn to blame.
But I feel there is more.
My heart starts pounding like a thoroughbred
when I am with you
for your love is true.
And when I feel loved, my smile starts to spread
sharing sweaty palms
without any qualms.
Love is such an indescribable feeling
I bounce head over heels, from floor to ceiling.
But I feel there is more.
Love titillates my heart and smooths my soul,
and I understand
why it feels so grand.
You're the missing piece that made my heart whole
We're but flesh and bone
scared to be alone.
Love lets lonely hearts visualize heaven
gambling that fate will roll either a seven
or beat the odds with a winning eleven.
But I feel there is more
to love than keeping score!

From wind that cried then softly died, until at last it merely sighed,
A memory wrapped in imaged song, without the need for right or wrong
A cornerstone of long ago, when life still had somewhere to go,
A memory intertwined with dreams, at least that’s how yesterday seems
Soft evening fog that came to call I gathered like a whispering shawl
To wrap round halos of the night, such a complex celestial sight
Of gas lit gauze in moonlit mist, cloud faces that I once had kissed
When nights were long and days kept pace, in lavender and silver lace.
A symbiosis based upon those dreams and nightmares now long gone
Came to me riding shades of grey, no need to crawl back to the day
No need to swim before I fly, just moments where we live and die
Those inter winding subtleties silk liquid shadows, satin seas
That drift me where I’ve yet to go, upon life’s subterranean flow
Then bring me to a different shore, a sort of trembling evermore
Where I can write poetic stuff, when dreams are harsh or life is tough
And when my poem is complete, I’ll rise again upon my feet.
A sudden sense of dreamless truth, such shivers from my long gone youth
Turn me into a child once more, another street, another door
That once was real, and now is gone, no more to pin my hopes upon
For symbiotic hopes and dreams can soon unravel at the seams,
And part just like a quiet psalm, that lost its temper, yet stayed calm
For all I know and all I feel is just how much life likes to deal
Those poker hands that always lose, no other outcome I can choose
Except walk in different dream, and head towards my dawn soft stream..
Speeding along life's highway
With the scenery flashing by
Must stop and smell the roses
There's more than meets the eye
We miss the tiny intricacies
Subtleties that mean so much
Life's delightful wee treasures
The warmth of a babies touch
A gentle breeze at daybreak
Welcoming a brand new day
Puffy white billowy clouds
Trees as they swing and sway
Life's a highway, enjoy the ride
The end comes far too soon
As you look for it's hidden meaning
You reach life's final swoon
Reflecting back over the years
Of the good times and the bad
You realize it's been a blast my friends
Thankful for the life you've had
With heartaches and some sorrows
To get through it all unscathed
Is nothing short of a miracle
In your memories you're left to bathe
To take a thought and shape a poem
Takes patience, and a clue –
The patience for the diligence
Required of a muse
The clue for clever subtleties
Engaging poets use
To form connections yet unformed
Reveal with clarity
The mysteries that men have known
Throughout the centuries
Unraveled with apparent ease
In fonts of industry –
To trace the riddle of a thought
Decrypt it as it bends
To find epistles in a phrase
And coax it from a pen
One finds a poet at his craft
Plying, with keen intent
The words with which to move the earth
And all the universe
