Best Soaring Poems
A gift received when I was young I have no more.
It sparked my interest though it was so deep.
Its verse was somewhat prose; its words would soar
straight to my soul and not put me to sleep!
Kahil Gibran, its author, was most wise.
Part poet and philosopher was he.
Another book I got, also a prize,
contained more feminine type poetry.
Its thoughts were clear; it was a sweet book of
romantic verse with metaphors sublime!
Sara Teasdale’s title, “For Those Who Love,”
enthralled me with pure poetry in rhyme.
I never could have known it then, but I,
would also one day see my own words fly!

A bald eagle landed in a tree,
right next door to me.
I heard his screech and saw his wings,
unfolded wide as if a king.
Proclaiming his own mighty throne,
majestic, proud and all alone.
I thought how long he’s been revered,
by our nation and others for countless years.
I thought about his strength and pride,
perched up there before my eyes.
As I stood watching his beauty, grace,
before again, he embraced that wild blue space.
Above, below, and all around,
he took to sky like love, unbound.
Leaving me enraptured, to smile and stare,
at that soaring spirit
moving ever higher,
way up there.

Siren,
your fluid
hymn lures
me past tense
gray gulls
who eye me,
anxious
for my safe
return
They circle,
keening...
and the tide
moves to
free me of
my moorings

Finding love in play all by design
Working overtime to keep one that is all mine
Magnetic powers not able to tow the line
Letting another love go that fails to define
Why must my life be filled with so much sorrow
I just want the kind of love that last for all my tomorrows
Opening my heart when it always seems to get blown apart
Laying my life out there being honest from the start
Lord is it possible that I may have some broken parts
Or is cupid just shooting blank darts
Can't put my finger on the reasons why
Always looking for the next love to try
Love that will reach out to touch the sky
With a woman who will find no reasons to ever lie
Things like that always seem to break this guy
Believing she is out there eager to fly
Needing this kind of sizzling hot love before I die
Not one where it all means saying goodbye
A real lady who will always look me in the eye's
Not one I will end up having to despise
Believing the right woman is out there
Ready to invest her heart and play fare
Has the ability to show her loving care
Lord, I know you hear my longing prayer's
Send me the right one without so many layers
I will await that special flower
Making sure to water it every day so it will tower
Love soaring through life hour after hour
Sharing the kind of love that will blossom as it flowers
Have you ever imagined the feeling
Of soaring up over the clouds
With only the breeze between you and the earth
Away from the bustling crowds?
With occasional sound of the fiery blast
That helps keep your airship afloat
A peaceful and heavenly solitude
As you sail this celestial boat
Imagine the total serenity
As you take in the breathtaking view
Corn fields that go on forever
Mountains that reach for the blue
Riding on currents and sunbeams
A feeling takes hold of your soul
Drifting over streams and babbling brooks
At peace, you are whole
"soaring through rainbows"
a day with birds
brings beauty all around
caressing hearts and souls
dancing high and low
enhancing life to see
forever sharing messages
gliding to and fro so
hold close this sight of
immense beauty and peace
join them in their flight
knowing this journey true
let your heart and soul open
making their grace stand as
no other miracle is there
other than a new day with song
playing across earth and sky
quietly and softly with pride
radiating light within and out
soaring through rainbows

When I see a lone seagull
Circling high above
I’m reminded of Jonathan
I recognize his kindred spirit
As one who would not stoop
For discarded french fries
In a stripmall parking lot
I wonder as up above he circles
How grand his aspirations
His dreams and fantasies
As he soars the openness of the skies
I often think of Jonathan
And stop to wonder if I myself
Am soaring to the heights I should

Have you ever imagined the feeling
Of soaring above the clouds
Only the breeze between you and the earth
Away from the bustling crowds
With the occasional sound of the fiery blast
That keeps your airship afloat
An oh so peaceful, heavenly solitude
As you sail this celestial boat
Imagine the absolute total serenity
As you take in the breathtaking view
Corn fields that go on forever and ever
Mountains that reach for the blue
Drifting skyward on a gentle breeze
Over the clouds you soar
A feeling of serenity and inner peace
Emanates from every pore
I am an eagle
My keen eyesight envision greatness above
I dread not the dark distance
I brace myself and fly higher still
For there is glory on that higher plane
I was meant to be a part of it
I am an eagle
Soaring higher makes me finer
Dear God,
If thy essence remains in me
And I'm made just like thee
Grant me lord my very wish
To soar like an eagle
Soaring High
Looking up I spot a bird; floating in the sky just soaring way up high. Graceful with wings spread never seeming to move slowly he circles around. In the distance another calls out as joining in this dance in the sky! The two ever higher begin their decent slow and mythological. What feels like hours I watch enjoying the sight drifting downward? What beauty the two birds display as they dare soar closer with each pass.
At last I can tell their hawks. A pair I’m sure for they fly together and call out to one another. I watch as one pauses on a tree limb looking about. The other still circling above and calls out once again. An answer comes from the beauty on the limb.
Amazed I watch the other land on the bird bath. What a sight to see as the smaller one now splashes in the bath. Clean and dry off she flies into the trees. The big hawk again into the sky higher and higher I watch him soar. Soon he’s high enough it’s difficult to tell this graceful soaring bird is the hawk from my backyard. A cry from afar and then he too disappears from my sight.
I find myself looking up watching and waiting for soaring high I’ll see my hawks. The graceful dance in the sky I know will lead them to the bird bath along with the branch where he sits and waits. A cry will sound in the distance alerting me of their intended arrival. My hawks will soar high circling with grace till they dare once more visit a while.

Now soaring high above the lands
that form the Big Sur shore,
her wings enjoin the wind and sky
set free forevermore.
Where hills, broad shouldered, meet the sea
eternal, vast, and blue,
and cloud-laced skies above the earth
now greet her soul so true.
She soars, a butterfly set free,
o'er all her life has seen.
Her memory, still rich to us,
now shares its golden sheen.
And longer than white waves have coursed
the California shore,
and deeper than the ocean or
the heavens men explore,
the gentle hands of God will guide
her wings forevermore.

Feathered grand masters of the air,
Winged lords of the sky,
Chieftain's of the heights divides,
Behold the great American Eagle.
Flying rafters grappling at the moon kingdom
Of illusions, shadow stalkers by the night's
Tidal eclipse, do these lunar hunters await
For the weak and meek, to emerge from
Purging's black holes beneath the earth.
Deadly free falling demons, aiming with
Stealth's pin point accuracy, flesh to the bone,
Raw elegance in motion, soaring these the Gods
Of winged flight.
Kings standing on the roof tops of the alpine
Mountains, royalties monarchs living by instinctual
Survival, notabilities symbol of strength and power,
Divine lords of the sky.
White powder clouds pierced by the sharpened
Edges of the cutters wing, as eyes glare into the
Pitch black of night, with perfections vision
At mid-nights darkest hour.
Honors peaks holds thy nests of liberty,
As prides guardians glide in the infinite tides
Of liberation, above a nation proud and strong.
Although the shifting currents of strife may
Thrust at them, storms hellish winds of war
Strike at them, they remain united against the
Common cause, rising in a spiritual union,
These the soaring lords of the sky.
Hush in silence for just one moments lingering
Breath, watch beauty's clippers cut the sky
In half, freedom fighters living amongst
The brilliance of heaven, in a world of natural
Peace, that only mankind can dream of, are they
Not completely magnificent.
Feathered grand masters of the air,
Winged lords of the sky
Chieftain's of the heights divides,
Behold the great American Eagle.

Standing in awe of creation
Thinking of all that God made
Amazed at the beauty of it all
I looked in wonder at the heavens
Radiant in the rising of the sun
Wishing that all mankind saw it as I did
Astonished at the intricate art work
Yet humbled by its Creator
To gaze upon this grandeur
Openly put on display
Telling a magnificent story
Having so much to say
Expressing such infinite wisdom
Showing God's handiwork to man
Tracing a pathway to glory
As promised in His great plan
Reaching out, I could almost touch it
Some day, beyond the stars I'll stand

As I sail above green forests
And ride jet streams on high seas,
I gain speed like lightning.
The earth loses its hold if you please.
Finding myself wafted into heavens
Angels touch my face.
My soul soars past the man in the moon
Itinerating through ethereal space.
I drink nectar from the Big Dipper,
Whirling planets crook their fingers.
Voices whisper encouragement
As the great Northern Star lingers.
The epitome of aspiration in eternity.
O, how sweet is heaven’s victory!
