On My First Inkling of Soaring Words

A gift received when I was young I have no more.
It sparked my interest though it was so deep.
Its verse was somewhat prose; its words would soar
straight to my soul and not put me to sleep!

Kahil Gibran, its author, was most wise.
Part poet and philosopher was he.
Another book I got, also a prize,
contained more feminine type poetry.

Its thoughts were clear; it was a sweet book of
romantic verse with metaphors sublime!
Sara Teasdale’s title, “For Those Who Love,”
enthralled me with pure poetry in rhyme.

I never could have known it then, but I,
would also one day see my own words fly!

Hi Andrea, another excellent sonnet but that is always what i expect from you. Already you fly so high. Your words fly through Heaven's domain and into the hearts of all who read. When it comes to poetry you shall not be coming down until you wish. You know well how to write such wonderful sonnets. Good uck in the contest. This has to be a seven and it sings its way through the sky into my faves. Hugs....Mike. XX

I love this Andrea. I was going to write about finding Lord Byron's first edition book in a little second hand bookstore in Sydney that changed my life and began my journey into the poetry world. We sure are kindred spirits. This is beautiful! 7 ; )

Hi Andrea, This is a good entry for the contest. Poetry did wonders for my life. I wouldn't mind reading those books you mentioned. I don't know Kahil Gibran, he sounds amazing. Great job. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. A Big seven:-) Alexis
