Even as a child of God -
when it came right down to it
she stood firmly on her child’s side -
not God’s

.. and damn
how I envied that..

my friend
much to my dismay
chose a parent
as a closest confidant
breaking all laws of teenage angst
and going against
all preconceived
conceptions, norms and nature

I watched as they walked
a harrowed path together
mom being there for child —
smugly snuggly hammocked
in her emotional safety net

.. and damn
how I envied that..

I walked my path alone
because my mother
would have chosen
God’s side...

.. and damn
how I now envy that..

Dont Fade

NOTE: This poem means a lot to me for it brings back memories of my childhood. My father, a WWII veteran was, in my eyes, indestructible. There was nothing he could not do. My mother was a constant loving guiding force that led our home. They were always there for us. Life comes full circle and when I wrote this poem Mom and Dad were failing, elderly and a mere shadow of their prime glory. I missed those times and still do. As I raise my children I am nearing retirement and I wonder what they think of me these days. The same I hope.

Don’t fade Papa, don’t leave us alone,
Where is that strong man,
Who wisely ruled our home?
Strong were his hands that once led,
That picked us up when we fell,
And carried us safely to our beds.

Don’t fade Papa,
Who is this broken man before me?
It wasn’t that long ago,
He was the inspiration for us to see.
Life comes full circle to us all,
I am not as strong as I used to be,
“Papa come play ball with me!” I hear my son call.

Don’t fade Papa, don’t leave us alone,
Take us back, to our happy home.

Don’t fade Mama, don’t leave us alone,
Where is that strong woman,
The guiding light of our home?
Strong was her love that once led,
That tickled out tummies,
And tucked us snuggly into bed.

Don’t fade Mama,
Who is this broken woman before me?
It wasn’t that long ago,
She was the example for us to see,
Life comes full circle to us all,
I am not as strong as I used to be,
“Mama have tea with me with me” I hear my daughter call.

Don’t fade Mama, don’t leave us alone,
Take us back, to our happy home.

Fall Sunset

The fiery orange glow reminds me
The dusk sky is beautiful tonight
Will light the jack-o-lantern early
Crisp air encourages hugs just right

Your smile in the soft light warms my heart
Like joyous rapture entwined with you
The peace I feel radiates in part
The grand celestial displays in view

As the sun departs it's light in kind
All night creatures appear, bats and such
World within a world, under a vine
Snuggled close our hearts, hands and souls touch

Sunset sky in fall air, crisp and cool
That huggly, snuggly season of ghouls!

Premium Member The End of a Day

Precious moments fade to black at twilight
as sleep shuts my weary eyes.
It’s the end of a day.

My wants, needs and expectations all rest
snuggly beneath my pillow...
where they'll peacefully sleep.

So goodnight, moon, and all the stars that shine.
So long to all birds that sing...
till we meet tomorrow.

With My Eyes Closed

"My closed eyes shall forever see, the happiness you brought to me”

My sadness wears a smile
when my eyes are closed,
keeping me from seeing
what waits outside
on that lonely pathway
leading through the life
we always talked about sharing

Our song plays in my mind
and I hear it calling
in the darkness,
the melody is soft and drifting,
echoing through the room
in the sweetest harmonies of
you and me

The taste of your euphoric kiss
still lingers upon my lips
as I dare not speak
for fear of losing the sensation
that caressed me in a feeling of ambrosia,
desperate for the moment
to be unending

I encounter your eyes staring, floating
in my grateful mind,
mahogany planets
hypnotically orbiting this vast space
that engulfs me, remnants of a dream
eclipsing an autumn moon
we once called ours

And as I hold the poetry you sent,
I do not see the words
of destined love,
but caress the paper
folded neatly to fit
snuggly in the envelopes
addressed to me,
never to let go

Still I cannot look because
when my eyes are opened
they are filled with tears
for the endless days ahead
without you here,
but closed I can see
what we had together

Reminding me that if I
had never had you in my life,
the beauty that we shared
might not have been and without you
my sadness would not be able to
wear this smile remembering how it felt,
to be loved by you

Premium Member Pumpkin Patch

Shapely to coarse green stem,
sitting alone; wanting to grin.
Patiently waiting for the take,
wanting Halloween to begin.

A few more weeks left to grow,
inviting; nestled in straw.
Children soon make their choice,
with little eyes in awe.

Fields abundant in orange hue,
serenading a season of rest.
Large or small or fat or thin,
any grab will be the best.

Cold winds blow just enough
to take its nipping bite.
Scarves and hoods, snuggly warm,
fending autumn with wraps pulled tight.

Little arms try to carry
the most perfect pumpkin around.
The patch now shrinks very thin,
remnants of a once lush ground.

Purple Poem

Purple Poem

Not too many moons ago,
A Winter evening so cold,
I rested in my Purple room
and wrote a poem so bold.

Proclaiming the Purple Poem,
Call me the Purple Poet.
A title befitting no common man,
Humbly the world shall know it.

Truly original the only one,
Uniquely purple and proud,
With this my purple poem,
Laureate to discerning crowd.

This my friends, is a purple poem
Written in my purple room.
Let me rest at the end of days,
Snuggly, peacefully in purple tomb.

Premium Member I Will Never Forget- That Day

A warm, September day, so many years ago;
our home was then aboard a large Marine Corps base.
Expecting our first-born with new moms shared, and so
my neighbor, friend next door, came over to our place.

A favor asked of me; to watch her newborn girl,
her little babe, just two weeks old, a precious one,
with chubby cheeks and rosebud lips, a tiny curl
upon her head. To play with, watch her, oh, what fun!

Day after, all went well in early morning hours;
drank bottle in my arms then slept in her quilt bed,
bound snuggly in her wrap of white with pink flowers.
Before long, Mama picked her up, and off they fled.

That next day haunts me still. Forever, will I mourn
the overnight crib death of my dear friend's newborn.

Lemon Drops and Butterscotch

When I grow old
My body not yet cold
But the brown of my eyes
Turns to gray

I will wear a large hat
When I patrol through
My garden and keep the
Weeds at bay

I’ll have big pots of this
And of course lots of that
On the stove for when
Company drops in

The food will comfort
The gossip will start
And more time with me they will spend

I won’t have cats
Because ewww they are cats
But be careful to step over the dogs
Their stomachs so full
I’m sure they won’t move
They’ll be passed out
And sleeping like logs

I’ll pretend I can’t hear
And my whispers will be loud
So loud to be heard throughout the room
Then I’ll whisper about people
The arrogant sort
And the ones I believe are bafoons

All the kids will love me
Because of what I keep hidden
To my bedroom they will often stray
Lemon drops and butterscotch will always be there
Hidden quite snuggly away

Oh let me be known as the lady of prayer
And the one that loves her Lord so
A relationship that started moons ago
And turned into
An eternal love affair

I’ll putter and piddle with things I find useful
I may learn to knit if I please
I’ll knit a blue scarf the bluest of blues
So on my motorcycle it will fly in the

She Was Free, At Last

~
The stones were many,
though still he climbed,
dismantling the mortar crusted wall,
leaving rubble in his wake
as he made his way to the top
Breathless, this world beyond
the border clung to its silence,
imprisoned by apprehension tightly
binding a heart fearful of opening,
like a clay jar of secrets,
brittle but sealed tightly
in the deepest cavern
of temptation

locks fastened as he
descended the other side slowly
taking in his surroundings
In the distance he could hear
the defined thud of the bolt
sliding snuggly into its chamber,
the click of assorted latches
in brassplate and silver
midst echoed sighs contemplating
wished for moans
as delicate hands trembled

What would come of this stranger
peering, traversing the maze
sculpted of thorned hedges
and meandering lies heard
lingering of past encounters
Would he bare truth,
could he be the one
to break these chains of uncertainty,
rusted of worry
but loosened by desire

When there he stood
in the gateway, shrouded by iron bars
of ornate woven design
draped in a cloak of confidence,
defiant of fear, gallant in approach
Not bearing jewels nor golden trinkets,
but offering honesty,
words of love in truthful promises
lined with forevers
once unimaginable

and she wept
for the sun had risen,
an amorous glow of crimson
and amethyst blinding the sadness
on a once forgotten horizon,
proclaiming a new day…
and she could see it,
she could feel it
and as he took her hand
she knew as they
walked towards it...
she was free,
at last

My Sadness Wears a Smile - Repost

My sadness wears a smile - Repost

“My darkness shall forever see, the happiness you brought to me”

My sadness wears a smile

desperate for the moment
to be unending

I encounter your eyes staring, floating
in my sorrowed mind,
mahogany planets
hypnotically orbiting this vast space
that engulfs me, remnants of a dream,
circling the universe, eclipsing an April moon
we once called ours

And as I hold the poetry you sent,
I do not see the words

Mighty Mercury

Alert then aloof, snuggly warm then colder
His rangy legs spring to hitch a ride on our shoulder
Lifting our hearts to elation
He’s our portable vacation
We cherish Mercury more each day we grow older

Premium Member Newborns Versus Babies

The babies are so much fun,
So cuddly and warm,
So snuggly, and wonderful,
So ugly when first born.

The babies are so loved,
So cherished, so alive!
But the newborns, with their cat-cries,
Are so annoying when they cry.

Yes, I will babysit your baby.
And we can play and sing and laugh.
I will give her and him both bottles,
But if it is a newborn, I will pass.

Uggs

I don’t own Uggs and never will.
I’ve heard they’re super comfy; Still,

To pay so much for something ugly,
Even if it’s warm and snuggly,

Seems to me a tad absurd,
Though fashion has the final word.

When fads appear, so do the hordes.
Abstaining has its own rewards.
