Best Snowfall Poems
After the flurry
My soul delights
Soft curves before me
Ice cream dreams
Shadows dancing and stretching
Defining infinite frozen sculptures
Ice diamonds
floating through the air
Glistening
Riding the shafts of pale sunlight
Landing on my nose
Blanketing my eyelashes
I capture them on my tongue
A frosty treat
A shiver up my spine
I wiggle my toes awake
Warmth in my belly caresses me
Surreal
This glorious tapestry before me
Silent beauty
Her dress of lace
Paper cutout high heels
A crown of icicles
Hugging myself now
A hole in my mitten
Allowing the magic
to seep into my heart
Wishing Happy Healthy Holidays to all

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." ~ Anne Bradstreet
Winter’s quick wind slips shadows through my soul,
Risking dawn’s light, leaving a mournful glow.
Deprived winking stars, moon will still console,
Grasping night with promise of graceful flow.
Wintery breath clasps the silent snow’s fall,
Rescuing each flake with cool, frosty thanks.
Gasping at the dance, beauty not so small,
Braving the night, gentling even snowbanks.
Wintertime comes and goes, leaving light trails,
Glistening joys, falling from the night skies,
Racing to meet life with enticing tales,
Memories of sweet love that never dies.
Winter’s easy light glows into the night,
Moving souls to hear its legend so bright.
Snow falls softly late one night
In the darkness it does bask
I dread the job tomorrow
Shoveling will be my task
Beauty is in the eyes of the viewer
I see nothing but giant flakes of work
The trees all have snow on this first shower
Dreading the day of a job using torque
The pathways are snowed over
All with a reflective white
I want to get to bed soon
For I know tomorrow’s plight
I’m mesmerized by the beautiful scene
Not a thing is without some wondrous snow
Even though I sure do dread the next day
I will put on a great, wonderful show
This time of year affects me
Seems to rub off some great cheer
I will find a way to smile
Though there’s snow up to my rear

SNOWFALL
The sweet tasting chill of winter’s wishful dreams
glaze in silence distant rippling streams
waken to gray crystal glow
first act - windblown show
descending
SNOW
blanketing
beneath downy throw
memories of what we know
entombed in ivory’s dark extremes
for life is fleeting and death not all it seems

Der Schnee fällt wieder
Wo die Natur friert
Dort kehrt Ruhe ein
Wildenten rufen
The snow falls again
Where the nature freeze
There lodges peace
The call of wild ducks
Otra vez cae nieve
Donde la naturaleza congela
Allí aloja la paz
Llamada de patos salvajes

The First Snowfall
Twinkling, glistening
Happy the glow
Early this morning
For winter’s first snow
Illumined the shimmer
Reflections of love
Softly they fall
Tiny flakes from above
Settling white
Neath an evergreen sway
Open your eyes
Windows bring the display
Frost covered whispers
Aloft they now flow
Lingering beautifully
Look at the snow

I woke this morning to the sound of sleet tapping on my windows but after several minutes there had been a hush. I looked out and saw a soft blanket of snow. Not in itself cause for wonder, but in New Orleans it's very unusual. It was only a couple of inches, but it was the impetus for this write.

They twirled in the swirling wind
No costume worn, ever twinned
each a beauty that transcends ~
each crystal from the sky descends
I danced among them like a child
filled with wonder, I was beguiled
until I realized and sorrowfully felt
my touch was spurring them to melt
From my window I watched, enthralled
as feathery fliers they lay sprawled
safe from the heated warmth of me
a flock of snowflakes, a Winter flurry
Twirling flakes float down blanketing the ground
they give the earth a covering of white,
flakes fall silently, they don’t make a sound
this winter wonderland brings such delight.
Young children awake and rouse from their beds
and they open their curtains with great glee,
a quick breakfast, then they dust down their sleds
and say ‘Mum we’ll return home to eat tea’!
They pull on snow boots and warm winter clothes
and they slide down the glistening white hills,
warm clothing protects small fingers and toes
which are toasty; they don’t feel bitter chills!
I love to see children go out to play
Perhaps they wish it would snow ev’ry day!

Snow came throughout the night,
Not that we were aware.
Outside though it gently fell,
We awoke, and could but stare.
From our frosted window panes
All looked so serene.
Lamplight lit a wonderland,
Lustrous winter, gleamed.

The cold rain of fall
Will come to an end
After depressing us all,
As leaves start to bend
When snowflakes, heaven does send.
The first tentative flakes
Land gently and sweet.
Our breath, this sight takes,
As they land at our feet.
We raise our eyes, the sky to meet.
Within minutes the ground
Becomes a white carpet, thick,
No colour to be found
As the snowflakes come quick
And onto each surface they stick.
A white, winter world to behold.
Before us now, the most beautiful sight.
No longer depressed by the cold,
Nature's white carpet, bright,
In darkness, giving us light.

Before the snowfall
People decorated
Outside of their homes
everyone has a
Different theme ideacolor
Some do roofs tops
The lights bright colors
The bare trees are lit
While wrapped on the bottom
Bushes wrapped in lights
Stairs railings have lights
One or two strings
When it darkness
All lights will shine
Lightening the darkness
With the pretty lights
The last of autumn’s leaves begins assault
Of winter gales. The sap within the trees
In hibernating xylems call a halt
To most activity to some degree.
The birds that once resided amongst them
Already left for warmer spots unknown.
A few remain behind but are condemned
To weather winters snow and ice alone.
The snow begins to fall. At first, a flake,
Then more and more until the trees are white
And weighted. Branches, weak, begin to break
And fall to earth and soon are crowned despite
The slackened storm. The wind subsides and all
Is quiet and calmness follows the squall.
During a midnight snowfall
You hear nothing
Unlike the pitter patter
When it is raining.
During a midnight snowfall
It can't knock you down
Unlike the merciless wind
That throws you to the ground.
During a midnight snowfall
It is quiet enough for slumber
Unlike the rumble rumble
When there is thunder.
During a midnight snowfall
It is peaceful
Unlike the ripping-crashing
Of a tornado.
During a midnight snowfall
There's a happy ending
Unlike the heartbreaking damage
Brought by a hurricane.
During a midnight snowfall
There are no violent winds causing ice burns
Unlike its reckless brother
The frostbiting blizzard
It may be freezing
You may not like the weather
But wouldn't you prefer a midnight snowfall
Over other natural disasters?
Birdsong in the morning, droplets of dew
White fluffy clouds, glorious sunshine too
Moonlight and starlight remind me of you
A vision in all that comes into view.
In babbling brooks and soft breezes that blow
I glimpse the angel I lost and love so
All things are heightened in memories flow
Memoirs to cherish from long, long ago.
I visualise you in falling rain
The melody of your heart sung again
A lullaby of the sweetest refrain
Vision of mother in heaven's domain.
In a rainbow’s colourful hues are you
For you were a woman of colours too
Colour, you said, would brighten up our days
And I wear many colours too, always.
I observe you in the ice and snowfall
When you appear the prettiest of all
Your face a picture I’d place on a wall
It’s vision clear paradise is a ball.
