Best Sledding Poems
Today, he is sledding iced streets. A city's rain yet freezes on roads here; every lad's pastime

Winter slopes abound,
Flakes of white, are all around
More are coming down
Let's find a hill,
We'll sled down it,for a thrill
Trek back to the top
This is a Haiku/ Senryu combo...Want to go sledding !

Snowflakes arrive upon the scene
Showing off in grand fashion
Doing somersaults as they approach the ground
My eyes begin to sing!
Coating my city like icing on my favorite cake
Angel food cake with almond butter icing!
One more slice please!
I'll have a second serving!
Soon I'll be at my favorite place sledding with my grandson, Sebastian
Tossing and turning on our inner-tubes at Stubb's Park and sipping on warm cocoa
Snowflakes paving the way for one extraordinary day!
My city iced like the most delightful cake
We got our sleds in the trunk and we are on our way!
For my bud, Sea-bass
Love, g-ma!

Downhill Skiing and Sledding
He had always found Hillary hard to face
Which is why Bernie runs all over the place
And he really never got to know her
Started sinking to depths that are lower.
Worse things ever he often had applied
Saying how Hillary was not qualified
She started crying and is now bawling
Bernie's platform needs some overhauling.
What to me I find to be the most amusing
Numbers he mishandles and is misusing
Started realizing he was not in the know
Saying forty score and seven years ago.
After read threw some history pages
That would have put us in the Dark Ages
He seems to be in and also way out far
And to his enlistment received a bar.
He never had passed the bar before
Hasn't figured out how to keep score
Can't downhill ski but is only sledding
Which is where he is always heading.

THE MUSHERS RIDE OUT (part 2) Arctic Dogsledding
(continuation)
But in the race-- the last sleds skid
Fleet dashers kiss the road
Excitement flows through panting limbs
Among this glorious fold
The mushers breathe in glories
‘Neath skies where grey eats blue
The dogs’ blood touched in magic
Heart-boldness born anew
For racing has its winners
The world will see one face
but the winning of this venture--
is survival of the race
Foes and allies side by side
Fate braids their wild desires
Each step through such life threatening lands
Seek comforts flamed by fires.
A thousand miles will test their skill
In cold winds dark and fierce
A bond will form among these teams
No pot of gold can pierce
The old dogs teach the young
Young mushers quickly grow
Keep straight the gangline as they run
Teams strain through ice and snow
When injured dogs bleed out their lives
Leave blots of crimson tears
the lead dog takes the team to task
Delays all pain and fears
And when they see the final leg
each team will tear in town
where all are warmly welcomed
and warmly bedded down.
A noble nature rules here
Despite life rough and cruel
A code of honor spurs them on
This life learned not in school.
The widow’s lamp burns valiantly
Awaits the last sweet team
And when they stagger cross the line
The sirens gaily scream--
There is respect for hearts that blaze
They offer brave ones rest--
The folks that welcome first to last
Are sparks of Nature’s Best

In Alaska they make crazy weddings
Participants endure some rough sledding
Bride and groom pledge to be true
In a large, freezing igloo
Consummation requires extra bedding

laughter of children
playing in the winter’s snow
seasonal delight,
bundled up in heavy coats
sledding down the steep hillside.

snow lies crustily

Walnut Hill was a favorite place for us
When the snow had covered the ground
The sledders would go and the saucers would glide
there was no other place, in our winter town
then dear old Walnut Hill.
We'd look outside, the snow four feet deep
We would jump out of our sacs and go
With our scarves, hats, boots, and
gloves, we looked like Eskimos
We pulled our toboggan all the way, five miles felt like nil
To the best place, we could spend a day
On dear old Walnut Hill.
We marched up the slope,
with smiles all around
we came down with a bound
from the highest mound
we flew with ease
the whole way down
we had taken our fill
On dear old Walnut Hill.
Sometimes we would crash
and everyone would fly
We laughed and joked and got up to climb
to the top of that hill one... last... time
The memories there, the fun we had,
we all in smiles review, the strength of will,
the climb uphill, our energy zapped its true
mom picked us up, tired and tuckered through
The wet clothes we threw in a heap
it was a quiet house we all lay exhausted, asleep
after coming home from living the thrill
from spending our time on dear old Walnut Hill.

A perfect day for sledding –
Lots of snow, but not too cold.
Though Henry tackled hills, his sister
Wasn’t quite as bold.
So I pulled her sled behind me,
As she laughed, on level ground,
While Henry and his dad (my son)
Were bravely downward-bound.
The kids were beaming, filled with joy,
By heeding winter’s call,
But I’d swear their sledding daddy
Had the most fun of us all.

Aqua blue sled
Thumpity thump thump thump
Children laugh with glee
Thank heavens for air conditioning
Bumpity bump bump bump
Wheeeee!
Mom mirrors masterpiece The Scream
Declares, “This shall not be forgotten!”
Dad pleads his case,
“But, I put a mattress on the bottom.”

Perfect sledding snow fell last night,
Children woke to a ground of white
Mid-March, of course, a novel sight,
Quickly they bundled up real tight
For a fine day of pure delight.

Sledding snowman twirling the snow so high
Flecks fly up in the air, nearly reaching the sky
Winter wizened wonders willing a western wind
Frozen lake front gives snowman the urge to begin.
On a large sledding hill, he does loops and twirls
The children watching are amazed at his swirls
If I catch him, he’ll be in my hot chocolate says one.
Asks another, “How on earth can that be any fun?”
