Premium Member The Bard of Gort

Springing free from glistening
Fronds
The summers heat leaps for
Height;
Whilst drifting obscurely far
Above
A distant lark now hangs in
Flight.

Floats down his sweet trill,
Accompanied by joyous and
Uplifting revelry,
Over the black crows nasal
Calls;
Whose draped shadow,
contemplating devilry,
Flaps and furtively falls
Into ripening bean fields
Planted in neatly sowed rows:
Nourished in darkest till,
Enriched by pedantic verse of
Gaelic odes.

Do now these gentle Slopes
Pause to yield
Where secretive song,
Bursting forth, is much concealed
inside the plain of Aidhne;
For here the great rock of the
Burren,
Whereby so implored upon,
Revealed its grey stones...
To rebuild ancient and deserted
Thoor Ballylee.

Sweeping briskly past a tors
Grassy island busy in bloom,
Eagerly cramming under four
Crouched arches,
Skim the borrowed waters of
Thee immortal Cloone;
Dappling currents
Dawdling around squat stanchions -
Staunchly carrying the quiet bridge
Over the old concourse:
Momentarily loitering -
Wantonly begging to coyly swoon...

Now, joyfully sporting in gushing
Discourse,
Gleefully courting elusive and
Glimmering enchantments:
Mirrored reflections enticed to
Enter -
To be forever trapped within a
Burbling rivers sacred rhyme and
Tune.

Higher and higher the spiraling
Stairs of de Burgo
When through airy woodland
Glades
The towering shadow sought;
And higher and higher the spirit
Of an ageing poet...
His crowding thoughts
Roaming freely amidst these
Fabled legends of Gort.

Harken then to the feathered
Herald -
Tis Gods design that calls on
Ye!
For few men know of what he
Sings...
He sings of the forgotten paths
Forever lost within Innisfree.

Premium Member Silver Waves Upon the Shore

Pushed there for a thousand years
and will be for a thousand more,
pushed there by the gentle winds
the silver waves upon the shore.

Ancient trees who watched here daily
are now dark silhouettes 'round the rim,
as dusk settles in over the still lake
and a dragonfly takes a final skim.

As the sun dips below the surface
silver waters gain a hint of gold,
their riches flow around my feet
giving me memories to be told.

The sands of time sift down below
where life goes drifting by,
and laid there for a thousand years
and beneath them, so shall I.

And become like a silhouette
to watch all life drift by,
and reliving in every moment
never stopping to ask why.

Pushed there by flowing currents
and the wind's most gentle roar,
I fade away like the golden sun
glint silver waves upon the shore.

Premium Member A Miracle of Life

Dark night flees,
And the first incandescence rays
Of the glorious golden sun
Skim over the haughty hilltops
And filter through the dew-wet leaves
Of the tall and stately pines.
A new day dawns.
My sleepy eyes slowly open wide.
I see a bright and summery sky,
A world of unsurpassed beauty,
Nature’s best incomparable display.
My heart grows warm
As golden rays penetrate my soul
And I feel uniquely fine,
For I know only too well
It is your hand, O Lord,
That wrought this radiant masterpiece
That grants me each day
With a fresh start,
Truly a miracle of life.

Darkness

There is no more I need to know
We're lost in the night;
Washed in the candle glow
Of shimmering light.
*
In this moment longings flare
The time is now;
So much we have to share.
*
Hear the night wind as it sings
It fans the fire;
Remove your things.
*
The darkness dances and dips
The firelight flickers and falls
From your toes to your lips
As shadows skim the walls.
*

Premium Member Night In a Heavenly Way

The sun yawns in the horizon as it flutters its eyes
Honey – yellow, orange, and shades of red
as it goes into a deep slumber as the moon awakes in the skies.

Heaven vast upon the seas
a pellet of darkest blue violet to a dark inky storm,
Shearwater skim closes the waves in flight by the breeze.
While angels weave and caress in loving warmth
of strength and comfort, an unconditional loving squeeze.

Our Earthly home
Our paradise,
Our Eden,
Our heaven.

A place full of sadness
A place of happiness
A daily reminder
A promise
Heavenly Angels protect,
Meant to be kept for eternity.

Lighting forks across the night skyline,
the rumble of thunder sounds around.
Angels pure of love and where they're most abound.
They're always nigh an angelic sign.

Premium Member I Return To Share Poetic Gifts

It was nearly two years ago, that I left the PS site
Bidding my friends fond 'farewell,' I took flight
If the door is ajar, I think I'll enter once more
Hoping things are better than they were before
My muse was confused, but wanted to return
So here we are ~ Your amity we hope to earn

We've written of fireflies and fragrant perfume
among flowering gardens in the height of bloom
Perhaps we'll pen with a new spark of creativity
for we've not lost the love for the art of poetry
It's a bond we share; a little nature, some romance,
If you like our music, kick off your shoes and dance

We've skipped over brooks and sat upon lawns
waiting for the sun to wake at the hour of dawn
Tucked topaz gems in petals of Spring's daffodils
hung diamonds on snow flakes in Winter chills
and pearls were strung across white lotus flowers
In honor of nature, we've been penning for hours

I am not Robert Frost, but the road back I'm taking
Nor am I Poe, whose dark poems leave you shaking,
but perhaps you might discover an emerald or two
in a love sonnet I write, or in silly limericks or Haiku
Let's share gifts that come from the heart and mind
of our muses who can be both stubborn and kind

Robert L. Stevenson wrote, "One line or letter bright"
in light that this is where my written verses alight.
He wrote, "glory in our patience," and "skim the pot"
so I'll take his words to heart, giving PS another shot.
I'm sure talented poets have since joined the soup
and I look forward to reading many of you in the group

Premium Member The Flush of Living

My basket lifts from ground; I, eager, stand
inside it as I drift into blue air.
I see below - the slowly shrinking land,
above my head, a giant yellow pear.

She takes me high, and as I’m looking down,
I view the checkered rows of each green lawn
around the center of my little town
and tiny houses. . . Soon they all are gone.

I breathe the clouds. . . then happiness-immersed,
I skim tall mountain peaks; I’m sailing wind.
And if my big balloon should tear or burst,
my soul will not forget. Death can’t rescind
the flush of living. My! What fills the sky?
A flock of snow white geese comes rushing by.

Premium Member A Skim-Milk Sky

Like a damp bath towel,
a wet mist wraps itself around my shoulders
and my spine shudders at its touch.

A skim-milk sky retains a bluish tinge
as a yellow sun swims behind a reef of clouds
absorbing its light like a thirsty sponge.

And I see my world through a gray lens
that distorts my vision;
like I'm wearing the wrong prescription glasses.
There is no color other than shades of gray;
it's as if Autumn's heart were pierced,
and it all bled away.

Premium Member A Wish In Vain

( An old poem, slightly modified)

How I wish my poems could,
soar higher and higher
like a bird of limitless wingspan,
dashing into horizons far!
But they skim like web footed water birds,
tilting their wings in vain,
unable to fly to any desired destination
helplessly watching larks and eagles
flying to the far edges of the sky.

How I wish my poems could,
sail across the limitless expanse
like parting ships bound to distant lands
carrying my fancies to the ends of the Earth!
But they remain like paper boats
set to sail by mischievous kids
that drift hither n’ thither on muddy puddles.

How I wish my poems could,
wind their way down slopes and dales
like a fountain stream running down
to join the sea, travelling miles.
But they slither like snakes,
struggling to move on polished floors.

How I wish my poems could,
grow out from chrysalis to butterflies
to flit around flowers and feed on nectar.
But they ever remain such creepy worms,
destined to hide behind blades of leaves.

How I wish, like an inspired artist,
I could paint on my canvas, with deft hands,
the luster and glory of the setting sun,
the freshness and beauty of the spring flowers
the scary grandeur of the mountains
the silence of the lonesome lagoon
the dark majesty of the unlit groves
the sunlit glades of trackless forests
and scenes and sights, so varied and myriad
that I could array before you in magic shades,
the wonders of an unseen paradise!

But, Alas! What I leave on my canvas
is just a banal scene!
My poems, like kites tangled,
among the branches of trees
are denied forward movement!

Still I don’t regret my efforts…..

Like the lyrics of a half forgotten melody,
my poems delight me,
in my sequestered hours of loneliness!

The Summer Field

Bees are buzzing in their hives
A pony tail swish, deters the flies
Long grass waves, majestic in the wind
And over the pond the dragonflies skim
This halcyon place you love to be
Brings peace and joy eternally.

So I Dance For You

| So I dance for you |

Awaiting I'm fixating upon my breath, becoming translucent between the day,
If I could only reach those sea of stars that light.
But, why each twilight passes you promise to stay?
Thereupon, keep me hidden under your night.

But, under the solitude scorching rays, I'm burning.
I ricochet along the ocean mist, but I'm descending.
So, I turn to your dark, still yearning.
Lost without your touch, with the winds weeping whispers, I perdure bending.

Our symphonic souls sensually skim between dusk.
Every phase you show me, I'll face.
Your cataclysmic craters secure me deep with trust.
Our sweet starbound surroundings embrace, I long to taste.

You watch me from a distance as I dance.
Moving with each beat of your cool moonlight, in a trance.

Stormy Sea

I watch a coral glow of sky
and see it mirrored by the sea;
I wish for eagle wings to fly -
away from you, away from me,
away from what has come to be.

The sun ship rode pale aqua waves
the first day that I saw your face;
today take back the love you gave,
free me from your black embrace,
these bitter memories efface.

You bade me sail your golden sea
by rays of morning sun inflamed,
your burning passion scorching me;
your stellar love boldly proclaimed
has left me broken and ashamed.

Your sea turned dark and stormy,
I tossed upon a violent gray;
with sea urchin spines thorny,
you goaded me to sail your way
and left my heart in disarray.

I long to skim the sky,
leave behind your misery;
I long for eagle wings to fly -
away from you, away from me,
away from what has come to be.

The Café

I would sit there for many hours
Surrounded by my contemplative silence-
My senses as warm as my latte;
My mind as frosty as my cheesecake

The mixed scents of Earl Grey, cinnamon tea,
Mocha, and caramel macchiato would encircle me
Almost like they slowly become part of
My breath: breathe in, then stealthily breathe out

I would hear laughter coming from one
Corner and whispering from another
And each corner would seem to me more like
A different world, each as distant as an era

I would at times engage in a crossword puzzle
Or skim through all the contemptuous headlines
And at other times I would simply read, think,
Write, or just watch some cars indolently pass by

The sounds of music playing, coffee brewing, fork-knife
Clattering and people chewing would all form
A unanimous sound: Serenity
I swallow it down with every sip of my coffee

In these amber hues for hours I would sit
Amidst these faces, leather chairs, and empty
Spaces- the same coffee would brew, the same
Music would play, and my same mind would
In its serenity, so utterly subdue

I go where mountain streams converge
And stand with pitcher on the verge
Of a transparent tranquil pool
Where waters merge lucent and cool
There is the grass sparkling with dew
I dip the jar in aqua blue
It overflows its precious gift
As with both hands I gently lift
To raise the contents to my lips
So that I take the first few sips
And then I drink the rest in haste
There is ambrosia in the taste
That brings to mind my faithful muse
The sky is filled with scarlet hues
I am entranced and stay until
The sun goes up; once more I fill
The jar with water to the brim
On wings of time I fly and skim
Till I arrive at heaven’s gates
Then walk to where my master waits
The zodiac path is where he lives
He lays the rules and ever gives
To freedom lovers ample space
To go about at their own pace
And cure the fragile human race
To make the world a better place.
A water bearer I shall be
With care to serve eternally.
