Best Seashore Poems
Honeysuckle by the sea
lupine blue and wild sweet pea
buttercups and hare bell fair
tiny daisies for my hair
kissed by winds
of salted spray
sweetest bloom of the day
flaxen sea oats
bend their heads
anchored in their sandy beds
purple vetch's tendrils creep
through watery graves
where starfish sleep
silent ocean bed of glass
awaits the twilight time to pass
so to greet the shadowed moon
hear the distant lonely loon
seaside flowers will slumber nigh
under stars in evening sky
pinkest sunset will adorn
evening clouds for next day's morn..
Seashore Sweepstakes
northwest rocky beaches
waves disguise cache of prizes ~
jellyfish parade
Clams and Gooey Ducks
hide in sandy blanket homes ~
no taste for chowder
hold your breath then dive
Abalone glued on rocks ~
opal sheen of shells
clusters deep purple
swinging from rocks of fool’s gold ~
Muscles hold strong
always on the move
Hermit Crabs – house on their backs ~
looks for vacancies
Oysters together
bedded down with family ~
maybe hiding pearls
Limpets with strong foot
clings to rocks and to fingers ~
teal and turquoise hats
trophies from tide pools
lucky tickets under stones ~
beach shore lotteries
Sly low tide sneaks up to smooch the smooth shore
that holds old footsteps left behind us
and lends itself to sand castles
standing guard until high tide
plovers dart on fleet feet
across sodden sands
spindle-legged girls
hunt conch shells —
starfish
found!
Blue
waters
glistening
aqua appeal —
white horse sea-magic
spindrift manes rise from crests
awakened from lowest ebb
high tide arrives on thunder hooves
body-surf Neptune’s steeds to the shore —
my wet hair dries to sun-bleached beachy waves…
I walked the beach and saw my footprints wash away with waves-
smoothing the sand without a flaw, and I seemed blessed in holy clime
as my soul, like trampled sand, felt healed by sea's baptizing hand.
Crepuscular is waning afternoon,
in lapis lazuli does day respire.
The seashore chimes its solitary rune
as tentative the lapping waves acquire
the briny echo of a mermaid's lyre.
Though timidly does surf caress the beach
in mirrored shades of night as they conspire,
brave wisps of comets in the untold reach
of space diffuse and pluck my heart into the breach.
SHELLS
sea shore
ocean calls
saunter listlessly
temple chimes serenade
emerald waves roll away
"each shell hides an untold story"

sinuous seaside sand
softly shifts smooth stones
seaweeds stinky sigh
winsome waves woven
wearing wondrous weave
westerly wind whistles
sunlit sparkling stars
seashore serenades sunshine
sopranos singing
driftwood’s dozing dreams
distant diamond disappears
deep dusky day dies

Summer Seashore
Hot August nights - the heat stands still
Starfish on beaches wait for tidepools to fill
Summer phosphorus - stardust on tides
Leaves sparkling footprints - on seashores abides
Rippled sands meet with a sly rogue wave
Steals kisses from the shore - stargazer knave.

A Poem of the Seashore
For Lynn
A poem of the seashore;
would you write one for me
of the shells and sliding sand?
All I see is horizon
releasing the moon
from a European land.
Behind in the east there's
a whisper so slight from a
place of seedling sun:
"Why do you stand at
the brink of night with dreams
that may not come"?
"Count on my light
of daily routine,
obvious, safe, in tune."
I can't; I can't; there's
more to be had from
the place of the rising moon.
I was born in the
gloaming of ocean surf
at the brink of my dreams
at the edge of the earth.

**I am a nearly seventy year old mother, grandmother, and great grandmother..I enjoy going to the seashore for vacation..I have always enjoyed picking up seashells and wondered if they all had names..Well, there are over 15,000 different kind of sea creatures that live in those shells and some have not been named..
Finis'
You've got to be kidding
As fiddler crabs play
There’s no music in the air
Ugly eyes just stare
Gulls in perfect flight
Bring the music to the night
Moonlight plays its part
Dolphins come around
And they lend their perfect sound
Music time is near
Maestro needed now
Sounds need direction somehow
Errant tones comply
Sounds that do not blend
Are now blocked by friendly wind
Unity now reigns
Masters touch is here
Softens harshness to the ear
Song is written now
Blessed voices play
As rhythmic surf shows the way
Sweet repose is near.
Question why I’m here
And I’ll tell you right away
My troubled soul is now healed.

Shoes in hand, skirting dunes, protruding rocks,
I slowly make it to the water’s edge
where sand and pebbles slide and gently rock
to the touch of swirling, playful waves.
A lone sandpiper skips; it pecks and probes
then with head raised it gives a joyful trill
blissfully unaware of alien presence.
Clouds hang heavily from a forlorn sky.
The sea is grey; the breeze in teasing mood
whispers to me, nudging distant memories
shelved in the dormant corners of my mind.
In this same spot, where subconsciously
I find myself as autumn nears its end,
we said our last goodbye...I wiped her tears
before reluctantly she walked away
from my life and our forbidden love.

Pleasures await you by the seashore,
And in the coming months
Invest in your family; today and tomorrow,
Pleasures await you by the seashore.
Your first choice will be the wisest to follow;
Do not put all your stocks in the market.
Pleasures await you by the seashore
And in the coming months...
(1 Year Anniversary Dinner at Sydney's Buffet)
The ocean journey ends
gathering at the shore.
An undulating sea climaxes
onto the sandy beach
depositing tangles of
seaweed, debris and shells.
Rocky sea caves reverberate
booms of incoming waves
while the incessant cries of
seagulls squawk as they
compete with pelicans for food.
Sea breezes whip up
salty sprays, like diamond
rivulets that splash
skyward toward the sunlight.
A wild symphony of
nature, unchanged by the
passage of time.

Picking up pebbles
Or seashells strewn on soft sand
Is so relaxing.
