Best Roadblocks Poems

Time Elapsed

All those years flew away
for nothing.
Then of course the headaches
started when weeping constantly
at the unfairness of my marriage.
You need to know that I didn't
love him but I cherish the family
we've created, you, my children
are the center of my life.

My hardships coping with
my authoritarian husband
drove us apart.
I started drifting away to
avoid being at his mercy .

I couldn't help myself to
get around those roadblocks
that at the time deprived me
 from walking through
 a new path of change.
I was stalling even in my silence,
aware of all the deceptions
that had come to characterize
 my life.

I had learned the hard way
to stay calm and pretend
that I didn't sense what was
happening to me,
and let time do its magic.
I wore this mask for so long
I didn't feel safe without it
 exposing my true identity,
it had to remain hidden .

I stopped blaming myself
as I was able to survive
my pain over the years.
Time has elapsed and done
 everything to diminish
my anxiety and eventually
allow my soul to heal.
I cannot tolerate seeing
myself weep anymore.

I started genuinely enjoying
every thought that passed by,
ready to feed myself with knowing
I would not repeat the same mistakes.
I ended up riding this roller coaster
of emotions feeling everything.
I was able to survive the pain
when I was at the bottomless
despair.

My walks alone under the
blazing stars,
imagining and wishing I would
never see him again,
craving my marriage
to become a memory .

I started feeling that I found
my silence smoothed my inner anger,
my passion has been real despite
my original skepticism.

Walking towards my cottage
I knew there'd been
a reason for it.
Somehow though the wilderness
enhanced the beauty around my
cottage garden,
the clouds were getting thicker
and darker,
running inside towards
my refuge,
I realized that I liked being
in control of my own life.
      At Last.

Perseverance is surely the name of the game
With every challenge before you
It applies to the highest mountains you climb
Ignoring distractions is the clue

Roadblocks are there to test your patience
The glitter of gold clouds your eyes
Keep your nose to the proverbial grindstone
Much success will be yours by and by

I certainly haven't achieved all my goals
But employing this theory through the years
Has enabled me to increase the likelihood
Of avoiding many heartaches and tears

Working hard with the goal of cooperation
Bendability when shown a new path
You'll ultimately be placed in a higher standing
Great success will be yours at last

In closing please remember this friendly advice
To assist you in climbing life's tree
Compassion and patience are all important
But perseverance is surely the key

To the Devil of the Dark Domain

You will remove the roadblocks that block my paths each day
You will not hamper what I do to succeed in my own way
You will not play your high pitched notes within my deafened ears
And take your hands from off my mind, and stop it with your fears

You will stop harassing me because I belong to Him
You will remove your minions now who paint the shadows grim
You will realize I have power that goes beyond this realm
He who shared the victory is stationed at the helm

You cannot overcome Him or steal me from His Father
You do not have the power to take my soul, don't bother
You will listen to my orders and heed the words I say
I know my place within the kingdom and don't get in my way

You will stop it with the H.A.A.R.P. toy and taking people down
And cease from tearing up the homes in neighborhoods and towns
And halt your little puppet show in Washington, DC
And get your hand now off this nation's blood bought liberty

You better realize you're in for a fight, a fight you will not win
I've been bought with sinless blood, by a King who had no sin
He's the one you came against and failed to win His throne
But that belongs to no one else except the Cornerstone

You will stop your taunting that amounts to nothing good
And leave this house and take your bones that wear that dark robed hood
Ever since the dawn of time you’ve constantly deceived
But I know Him whom I’ve believed so consider yourself relieved

sometimes, I am sleepwalking through life
disconnected
stumbling
not fully awake lost and confused
I feel, I am not with the living
I tell myself, "wake up before its too late!"
some roadblocks have me blocked
lost my way somewhere fallen asleep
hit rock bottom
crawled back up then what?
must awaken and find a life of purpose
shake off this sadness
why do I exist? why was I born?
I need to let the light in
              talk to a "higher power"
ignite the tree of life sigh!
that's a lot of work
maybe tomorrow . . .
why do I always feel so within
locked in my own sacred place and happy there
maybe meditation will help
a little astral travel
my body feels heavy and dense
I want to be light and unbound and limitless
I hate that I need things and want things
after all, we all leave this earth with nothing
and there is this chatterbox in my head
that never stops telling me what to do
or what I should have done !
I know I have a gift
the gift of writing but I am afraid of it
and love it at the same time, yes I do!
sometimes, it overwhelms me, even makes me sad
sometimes, I embrace it and pour out my soul
but have you ever felt alone although surrounded
by people? I have and its an odd feeling
like looking at yourself from afar
how sad is that ?
sometimes, I linger in the past too long
then I am filled with regret and sadness
and frustration
yet the past has made me the writer I am, sigh!
I know
I have the power deep within me
to find my place in this world before it is too late
maybe, tomorrow . . .

My Children Are Mexicans

out in the county and up the highway
anger hangs like lost voodoo over Miami
dances on bumperstickers
floats on airwaves
scars faces with perpetual glares
colors perceptions darkly
alters moods and
drives young men to football coaches
then army recruiters

anger that beats stepchildren
hunts coyotes for pleasure
and hangs corpses on barbed-wire fences
anger that asks
have you seen many Mexicans today?

just my wife and kids so far but it's still early
i hope to see more
he calls me a race traitor
he's to old to hit and i'm to old to hit him
so i suffer a fool
he tells his old wife only a *****would marry a Mexican

middle-aged men in Ford 350's
scatter brown children at bus stops and crosswalks
then pull guns to protect themselves
from the older brothers of the children they harass
and... hey why did you do that to my little sister?
can get you shot in "self defense"

it gets to me too as anger leads to fear
fear for my Mexican son and daughter
who have records but have committed no crime
but out in the county and up the highway
the police put up roadblocks
issue tickets without cause
and brag, every Mexican in town will have a record

they told my son "what's the big deal everybody gets pulled over
everyone has to pay their share"
even if they
come to a complete stop
obey speed limits
use their blinker
don't tailgate

tell it to the judge, my son and my daughter
the judge who gives out four month sentences
for a third non-offence
or you can pay the
take it off your record fee
we lost your paperwork fee
you live in the wrong neighborhood fee
you drive an old car fee
we don't care if you did it or not fee

then after you pay and pay
re-arrests because the clerk didn't enter the payment
leads to
lost jobs
missed classes
and retracted scholarships
my children are Mexicans

Premium Member The Range

The rivers rise, released, unrestrained
Reborn of unrepentant rain
Recalling remnants of rimrock gained
Wrecked residences, drifting rafts, remain

Though dawn's rays reveal ruin and regret
Resolve ran through the returning vets
Of robust wars, whose rigors met
The rate the sliding roadblocks set

The ramparts raised, unrestricted
Remorse, redirected and evicted
Replacing rusty banks, constricted
Rebuilt runs regulated, predicted

They'll ride the restored, irrigated plains
Until the red ridges reclaim the range.

The Road of Life

Somewhere on this road of life
I got lost in the fog of my perceptions
I’ve been constantly misguided
By my own map of deceptions
Fueled by a hunger for answers
And an endless curiosity
I swore no roadblocks could stop me
When driving at this mental velocity

Yet as I try to remember the directions
That were never made
I feel like just another fool
Searching for shadows in the shade
It’s no wonder I’m eager to live tomorrow
Without ever living today
But how will I ever get there
Without ever knowing the way?

And as I see the bridges of my past
Burning in my rear view mirror
I’m tormented by doubt
As my unknown destination draws nearer
When will these headlights of hope
No longer be essential?
When will I bask in the eternal sunshine
Of tomorrow’s potential?

Perhaps it’s time I stop blinding myself
Of the truth before my eyes
Before this wicked masquerade
Becomes my ultimate demise
Yes, it’s time to accept the truth
The scenery was all just a mirage
Because whether I realize it or not
I never even left the garage

Premium Member Our Daily Path

Pebbles, rocks and boulders
Obstacles in our way
Over, around and upward
The measure of our day..

Puddles, streams and rivers
Bar the way ahead
Step, wade or swim
Find another path instead...

Cracks, ditches and canyons
Roadblocks to dismay
Busy building bridges
Until we're old and gray...

Twisting, turning byways
To keep us on our toes
Eyes to the horizon
How a man's life goes...

Premium Member Kill Your Ego

You alone can't hold up the sky.
                 You can't do it all.
           You do have limitations.
               Swallow your pride,
               And for once, allow
           Noble-intentioned folks...

         To help push you beyond
        Roadblocks that render you
               Immobile. It's okay
Not to have all the answers.
                There's no shame
                In seeking counsel...

          To help you configurate
     Life's confusing puzzle pieces,
            To help you construct
    The foundation of your dreams;
You can't be the sole architect.
        Some are more than willing...

     To help you thrive and prosper;
Let them. First, make life easier
        For yourself. Poke a needle
At the inflated balloon that is
            Your ego. Ensure that
            You hear it go..."Pop!"

The poison parrot is repulsed by me, hates my art, laughs at my poems.
sneers when I enter my imaginary world, pokes fun at it.
She throws roadblocks into my mood zone,
destroys my great ideas as fast as they enter my dendrite alley.

You think you are something! Ha! She laughs. You are less than nothing.
No one will like that. It is too sassy, too bright, too snotty, too tall, too snarly.
She snips away at me, chopping little pieces off, as I try not to cry.
You are an idiot! She yells at me, her favorite pastime.

Poison Parrot managed to hold me down, away from myself, for years.
She held me hostage in a prison I helped her build; I cowered in a scared way.
Until I met Savior Boy. Savior Boy did not know about Poison Parrot, for when
I was around him, I was confident, witty, sassy, fun,
out-going and memorably lovely.

He let me do his homework, and he received good grades,
praising me to high heaven.
The closer we became. the more self-assured I became,
assertive genius oozed out of me.
Poison Parrot was fearful now, she saw she was losing her grip.
She began yelling louder than ever.
“You are an idiot! You are worthless! You are a loser!”

I stopped hearing her. Savior Boy’s love and respect helped me
to clip her wings, and tape her beak.
By the time our children arrived, I had re-invented my self-talk.
I was now being talked to by Sophie,
a dynamic, self-assured, marvelous pixie queen who
believed in herself, and everyone else.
I released Poison Parrot and let her limp away,
saving no face at all, after Sophie arrived.

Perhaps

~

Perhaps…it is the light,
reflecting in symphonic visions from dampened roadways,
serenading my heart in melodies of whispered thoughts,
painting lyrical lilacs on a gray canvas
with fraying edges

even as clouds connect the sun,
I sit alone, on a worn leather seat,
fingers tapping the steering wheel in rhythm with
the endless miles connecting my cultivated dreams
with pictured fantasies that may prove to be just that…
fantasies

yet I look,
optimistic eyes perusing spring fed corn row wishes
and sunflower sonatas,
which my heart faces with fevered emotion
and anticipation of each new coming day…

(constantly aware of roadblocks set up
along the shoulders of your heart)

Distractions come as an eclipse darkens the sky
or is it my heavy eyelids causing the detour,
yet my soul is alert to the possibilities
of what might be waiting behind that locked door
where silence allows me to hear your words…
written in the wee hours of the morning

an invitation to share this morning with one who matters,
one who touches me, one who feeds me
with a simple hello and a cup of coffee
or something more…fantasies become realities…perhaps

Premium Member Did You Follow Your Dream Stream

How do you compare to your envisioned life plan?
How do you compare to the ideal self you imagined as a child?
How do you compare to your highest expectations of yourself?

Did you follow your dream stream and your aspirations highways?
Did you meticulously avoid roadblocks along your way?
Did you release the nay-sayers who tried to thwart you?

Did you learn how to listen to your heart?
Did you enjoy the journeys that lead you to today’s you?
It is never too late.

Lately things change rapidly, as if the world is spinning...
Everything is momentary, one thing to the next
Working hard to survive the hurdles that continue,
since a whirlwind of disruption uprooted my life
I still see a beautiful sunset or special clouds pass by
All the while I battle roadblocks that appear in my way
Each thing is momentar,y, a hurdle or a beauty
I can only make the best of it, moving on my way
I hope, I try, I seek patience and keep on going
For this is all I can do, in this momentary life I live
