Present Tense

It seems
my past
is everything
I failed to be.

I am
a product
of my past
not a prisoner
of it.

I will
not be
stuck in a labyrinth
thinking I'll
escape one day.

However, the clock ticks
hours pass
the past reverberates
the future recedes.

If the present
changes the past
looking back
I did not find

what I left behind.

PD's Contest: Solitude -- Monoku or ONE LINE poem #4

Present Tense

SHE WAS THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE
HE WAS LIVING IN THE PAST
AND IT WASN'T YET APPARENT
HOW LONG THEIR LOVE WOULD LAST
BUT THEY DIDN'T TALK ABOUT IT
WITH PASSIONS SO INTENSE
AS THEY SHARED EACH OTHER'S ENERGY
AND KEPT IT PRESENT TENSE

THEIR DESIRES COINCIDED
UNAFRAID OF GOING FAST
SPEEDING TOWARDS WHATEVER
THEY FELT WOULD MAKE IT LAST
IT WAS ALL ABOUT THEIR CHOICES
HOW THEY MADE EACH OTHER FEEL
WHILE TRYING TO IMPROVE UPON
THEIR CONCEPTS OF IDEAL
POSSIBLY IMPROVE UPON
SOMETHING MORE THAN REAL

THEN ONE DAY SHE ASKED HIM
MY DEAR IS SOMETHING WRONG
IT SEEMS THERE ARE CONDITIONS
WHERE YOU THINK I DON'T BELONG
HE PAUSED TO PONDER WHAT SHE SAID
 HE LOVED HER COMPANY
AND SAID I'LL GET BACK TO YOU
IN A THOUGHTFUL REPARTEE

IS IT BOUND TO HAPPEN
REPITIONS SETTLES IN
AND SLOWS THE FLOW OF LAVA
THAT SCORCHES WHERE THEY'D BEEN
THEIR PASSIONS COOLED AND HARDENED
TILL THEY REALLY COULDN'T TELL
IF THEIR JOURNEY LED TO HEAVEN
OR WAS JUST A STEP FROM HELL
OH SO CLOSE TO HEAVEN
YET NOT TOO FAR FROM HELL

THAT WHICH IS DESIRED
SOON LOSES IT'S APPEAL
FOR ONCE IT IS POSSESSED
SEEMS A LITTLE LESS IDEAL
NEVER EVER SATISFIED
ETERNAL WRINKLED BROW
WANTING WHERE AND WHEN
WHILE THEY HAD THE HERE AND NOW
WANTING WHERE AND WHEN
WHILE THEY HAD THE HERE AND NOW

A Present Tense

The sky's are filled with winds of rain.
That fill my eye's with stains of pain.
And leave my soul soaked to the bone.
As I pretend I'm not alone.

Somewhere in life so long ago.
I learned something I'll never know.
The reason why some hearts are lost.
And true love in the trash gets tossed.

The story's told so many ways.
Of who's at fault and which side pays.
Sometime's it just does not make sense.
And leaves us with a present tense.

In courts of judgement in the press.
We find that it's any one's guess.
Who gets to stay, who has to leave.
Who gets to live, who has to grieve.

Maybe's the question no one knows.
Conclusion says that's how it goes.
But one side wins and one side loses.
And leaves us wondering just who chooses.

Note: This is about how I felt about the county dictating my life to me. But like I said earlier, in hindsight for the most part. This episode in my life was a necessary intervention. And I am grateful for it in the end. <3

 Many are the present tense;
Mostly humbly passive glance;
Morbid finds casual stance;
Mainly passing visions glance;

Ate my favorite cookie
walking to the bathroom,
didn't enjoy it.

Thinking about my upcoming
vacation was better
than living it.

Caught myself rushing
to meditation class,
thought about it.

Clicked my alarm to pause
wanted more time,
I missed it.

Argued with my friend
never happens again,
I did it.

Savoring a chocolate delight
looking for more,
I'd ate it.

Stay present.
Lighten up.

The Forever I Feared
David J Walker

The Forever I feared
would last
Three years
Before I knew
The Army wasn’t really
Meant to be forever
Or was it?
	Or is it?
As I try and write
It’s past explanation again
Where I am
		Or have been
In the prose of perfect since
In the cadence of marching
	Backward into
The perfect future tense

Present Tense

Shake me with worry and rattle me with expectations
As you would under a tree
Rip me open to see what my shell holds
Behold, not what you expected is it?
Cry to your family and explain to them what you were hoping for
Maybe they can exchange me for something else
Or maybe you will learn to love me
