I could not write poetry
till I was brain damaged
a life of shame, abuse
no good to anyone, oh yes and of no use
hiding behind the dark side of you.
Memories dreams are of that time,
many a mile we accomplished
amongst the grey stones
the bricks the muck
hiding behind the dark side of you.
I use to spend many hours
just looking for inspiration at the sky the ocean,
hear the rushing water
and in simplicity feel the gentle rain
hiding behind the dark side of you.
Why oh why should I wear this affliction
I’ve been many things in my life
that, which never stops creaking
lives here in one’s head
hiding behind the dark side of you.
Yesterday’s events were so different
penetrated my head my heart my soul
regarding earth’s greatest feats,
mainly war and of its dead
hiding behind the dark side of you.
The media’s strength used by the subtle
Oh! The mind control
tuned to sporadic applause
swells admiration for their efforts
hiding behind the dark side of you.
Truth complemented occasionally
then smashed into smithereens,
the pieces in abundance
having lived a life of torment
hiding behind the dark side of you.
Oh Soup! Quiet haven away from it all
aids to adorn my memories, just,
love, one hears and reads about every single day
helps no doubt this victim of society’s goals
hiding behind the dark side of you.

In the cool of the evening he laid there basking
as my fingers touched the gleaming surface of the pool.
Deeper i penetrated till my hand was beneath him,
slowly my fingers engaged his slithery belly,
then gently with a slight single movement
to and thro, then up and down
his whole body fully relaxed as he rolled a little
to accommodate me.
As he laid there his eye and my eyes connected
each of us wondering no doubt what the next move would be,
while carefully not to let my nose which was just above the surface
play any part in this my devious quest.
Suddenly a water skater bug came floating by
and decided to explore my nostril,
at this point making me sneeze, the force of the blast
sending the bug careering upon the surface.
In a flash swallowed by my impending supper
who then scurried away to the safety
of the rocky bed of the creek,
to become King Trout for another day.

Where did my life go ?
Oh, how I would like my life back !
It seems the fabric of time has developed a crack,
and through it, I seem to be falling.
Every day, work, work keeps on calling
and my days melt, one into the other,
no time to do all I must cover.
Hours are so few
For all I have to do.
Very little to remember of this one’s day
For they are all the same.
No longer a life, no time for play !
Work, work, work is the frame
of reference, routine of little variation
is my life, sometimes a little creation.
This is where my life has gone !
Work, work, work and nothing beyond.
it has penetrated, permeated my dreams.
Work, work, work, no escape it seems ?

It Saw Me Through Such Dastardly Purblind Eyes
It saw me through such dastardly purblind eyes
Up there overhead with silent anger
What a truly ghastly, dangerous beast
On a morn with dazzling trapezoid skies
This heart could not bear to see its long paws
and that deathly stare that penetrated me
O' lord save me now, please come to my aid
I wept bitterly, slashed with those claws
My mind again said to me, be thee stout
Step back, grab your sharpened sword and cut
You can do it, kill this fierce, horrid beast
And as I swung, I said "die, with a shout"!
That sword plunged in fast and hilt deep.
Damn it, alarm clock rang, I woke from sleep.
Robert J, Lindley - Dark sonnet
Dec 6th, 1973
“Here lieth baby Rachel
Born 10th Sept 1894 Died 30th Oct 1896”
Marble stone that lays above the head,
white chippings that blanket the body,
flowerless vase that sits naked
crying out for a fragrant moment
if only to perfume its stagnancy.
I see an odorous pool being replenished,
rain drops aiding hope and life,
a renewal to the neoclassical container
that one day must have been complemented
with loving hands of grief.
I find no track to this lonely corner,
forgotten in this living place of death!
No visitor to gaze upon its epitaph
no one to care “Whom here lieth”
Beneath this broken monument.
“Velvet skin that the cruel age turns to husks,
naked bones left to mature the grass above,
weeping willow guardian of shade and light,
Who! Knows what nourishment
its searching tentacles beget.”
“Corpus soul aimlessly floating in limbo,
looking at me here this very minute?
Feeling my sensitivity as I stand here, alone,
Is there no escape for anyone?
‘Unless life is indeed the enemy’”
Warped in thought I stare at her monument,
built by caring minds and dexterous hands,
tradesmen whom with spade and chisel
penetrated sculptured within nature
just to honour a child’s brief life on earth.
I walk away along the newly beaten track,
grass and nettle bow before my impending stride,
my mind is wrenched with reverence,
I climb aboard my mechanized shovel
“I wonder why! Why should it bother me so!”

How curious, remote, the pain seemed now
As a fly on the ceiling, she looked down
Her body below in a hospital gown
Incessant beeps emitted by machines
With blips and waves on their monitor screens
She tried to cry out; muffled were her screams
No warmth penetrated surgeons’ white masks
“What are they doing?” she wanted to ask
“And how do I know they’re up to the task?”
The scene rolled past like a horror movie
Terror, she feared, would last eternally
But the action, the beeps, stopped suddenly
A creature of light appeared, took her hand
Something seemed familiar about this man
Had they met before in another land?
Through a stone tunnel he guided her now
Without taking steps, but floating somehow
Toward figures moving in a misty shroud
Some she recognized as they drew near
Family and friends whose love she held dear
Were welcoming her; she’d nothing to fear
Parents, an uncle, a cousin and niece
Beckoned her onward, her soul sensed release
In a radiant spectrum, stairway to peace
But as scenes from her life began to unwind
A Deity with a voice so sublime
Said, “I’m sorry, but it’s not yet your time.”
Pulled by a vacuum, withdrawn from the light
Through the tunnel again, though she tried to fight
From the ceiling she gazed, witnessed the sight
Electric currents jump-started her heart
Paddles brought back pain she’d known from the start
When later she woke, there was much to impart
But a skeptical doctor denied her claim
Her “journey” he dismissed as inane
Circuits, claimed he, had misfired in her brain
But she knew the truth, would not be deceived
Even when only her pastor believed
A glimpse of heaven she had received
* * Based on my own experience during surgery long ago.
Suddenly I was caught
In the whirlwind of you.
Tumbling, tumbling...
My heart beating faster
Flying, soaring the heavens.
The universe in its vastness
Swallowed me.
Your brilliance penetrated
The darkness as a distant star
And I felt myself being pulled
Into orbiting around you
Eternally seeking to be eclipsed
By your grandeur and beauty,
To be warmed by your nearness
And kissed by your light.

The horn section fell off mars
hangin' voodoo tremelos
Crazy eyed jack was there
twitchin' f-stop harmonies
Chandeliers flickered smoke haze
rhythms of green dahlias floating
above 6 minute promises
Amid forever, saturn shifted;
rings penetrated for eternity
Rings penetrated
for eternity

...He said: "I believe there is a God.
Something ingenious was most definitely
at play.
But, I've asked some other
reverends, pastors, and ministers,
where are Jesus' bones?
Not one convinced me, which repulsed
my eagerness to fellowship.
We have
dinosaur bones, giant and dwarf bones,
archeologists artifacts and a slew of other
things that prove that these historical events existed
or occurred.
I'm a total believer of proof!
(with a grin on his face)
Can you answer that"?
The other guy paused and prayed
before taking the quiz!
He says: "the miracle is prophecy since the Old Testament.
And the sacrifice of foul offering
became displeasing to the Creator's taste buds.
And, don't forget about Abraham who was willing
to sacrifice his own son when God asked him
to pledge his allegiance... an Initiatory joke
that the creator ante up one
with a pure scarifications and sacrificial lamb;
his own child!
You and I have bones from our parents
meshing. The sperm penetrated the egg.
Mary, a virgin,
impregnated by a message
that she would bear a child.
Without the meshing of two
those bones
left the same way that they arrived... Miraculously
with dominion over hell and a graveyard".
Can't recall the last time
if there ever was a time
~
where deep thoughts penetrated
the lengths of my night
pain always pulling
throbbing
me out of a dream
no fantasy no steam
no statisfaction
of a lip licking need
but there I was
naked under cover
of your watchful eye
a most longingly eye
"birds dipped their wings
in the lucid flow of air"
and the fire was burning near
I touched your soul
(it was warm)
along with your heart
as I inched deeper and deeper
into your seams
kisses were savoured
you nibbled relentlessly
upon my grace
I felt your face
etched in my mind
and I smelled your skin
not dripped with perfume
but with love and eternal care
I could not help but disappear
again lost within your lair
and as there I laid
I drifted peacefully with the birds
watching
remember
when childhood held dreams
remember
when friends where real
remember
Anne Frank, child betrayed
remember
when poetry spoke of the heart
remember
when the psycho penetrated with dart
remember
those who tell tales true
remember
the kiss of love? or
the kiss of deceit
remember
evil hides in rainbows
goodness dances with lightning
I will remember hearts of kindness
not the man spreading blindness
remember
yearn for happier times
not July, only youths summertime
illusions that once made us happy
Now devour our minds
The fear of her looks
Became thorns in her side
Her images were shattered
Because the mirrors decide
This beautiful girl
Who sees a different face
She hears the world laughing
No matter where she is in place
In her bedroom at home
She faces her demons alone
Unknown to her family
For years she has roamed
In her dreams one night
She receives her wish
Surrounded by mirrors
She cuts her wrists
Because the fear of her looks
Had penetrated so deep inside
This beautiful girl
Who now, no longer resides

Her gentleness portrays softness, tenderness and humility.
Her gentleness is the definition of true strength;
a representation of consistency,
of determination.
Her gentleness shows the depth of her soul;
a soul filled with unconditional love,
a soul sensitive to treat others with kindness,
a soul genuine to herself that disseminates tranquility to those around her.
So alluring!
She captivates me from within.
She nourishes beautiful things to grow.
Her sweet benevolence cultivates my inner peace.
Nevertheless, this magnificent creature was persecuted.
There were those who belittled, degraded and disrespected her.
She was hunted down like an animal.
The prey of unruly predators.
Their weapons of hate were loaded with bullets
of hostility: an intentional intense dislike that thrives
on an elevated level of anger.
The barrage of bullets pierced through her heart
and penetrated the depths of her soul.
Her body became cold from the absence of her warmth.
No longer is there a sparkle because of those
who made her gentleness fade.
Now she believes her gentleness is a self-inflicted wound;
a wound shrouded in shame, embarrassment and betrayal.
However, I know it was her choice.
She was an embodiment of true courage.
Her gentleness is framed on the walls
of my heart for eternity.
The blade penetrated the flesh
like a prong to a pitted plum
he had played with war
toyed with war
yet the gun
well the gun didn't have balls
Not for him the sterile
three shrouds removed
expunging of visera with a gun
sissy pistols
pansy takers
Stick um good
part the seas of red
wake and feed the hounds of war
plastic pop-guns shatter beneath the heel of Mars
Man UP, raise the staff
and shove the pig sticker into mother's child
Oh man, war, Old Man War
do you visit him each night as you enter
what should be the path to love?
Have a poke little man
just remember, all that was is ...
and will be born again.
Dedicated to a constant friend and inspiration Chris Aechtner
Inspired by his write "kids use toy guns'
Red leaves cowardly fall from trees like arrogant men
The powerful wind creeps up steadily scattering them on battered ground
While caretakers gather them into bags and empty them into garbage cans.
The giant trees still hold their composure waiting for the winter band
Autumn chills and winter spills engraved in the soul of every man
Telling us that life is entering another round and hope is still alive.
It has been a miserable year casting doubt and myriad fear
The summer season could not stand up to the parching sun
Events after events stirring up the summer heat but now autumn is here
Blowing away the evil dust making way for the winter crust.
I drove out in the wee hours of the morning and penetrated the clear blue sky
I saw millions of shining stars embedded in the dancing blue sky smiling merrily at me
And the cool autumn morning whispering songs of praise emitting sparkling delight.
I long to wake up to the day when the grumbling and contention will cease
The war will be completed and mankind will be at peace
I longed for the day when families will reunite and communities will come together
I yearn for the day when countries will be delivered and enjoy lasting peace with their neighbors.
The seasons embrace life’s abundance
The seasons empowers pinnacles of hope
The seasons with its multitude of stars secured in the deep blue sky
And the red leaves scattered on the ground is a testament
That autumn will bring new joy and stunning changes all around.
