Best Overtake Poems
I’m listless as a lazy river
barely lapping at the shore.
I wanted once to find the ocean,
but I don’t care any more.
Would I even make a ripple
if a stone were tossed my way?
Even with the frogs and fishies
I no longer wish to play.
I’ve lost my course and lie inert
inside my riverbed.
Had I legs to help me run,
I think they’d be as lead.
So spiritless and dull am I.
I’m like the kite I see
motionless each breeze-less day,
stuck and hanging from a tree.
Languor sure did overtake me,
for this humid, hot July
sucked out all my energy.
I think perhaps I’ll simply die.

As days grow longer, melancholy creeps
An uninvited guest, which winter brings
It dims the candle my mind tightly clings
Consuming light, from darkness whence he leaps
In doldrums dark, my heart held captive weeps
Held hostage by north winds that bite and sting
Entombed by winter's chill, awaiting spring
Time slowing to a crawl whilst nature sleeps
But then one day in March, an equinox
The light begins to overtake the dark
In color, daydreams dawn as dark does fade
Sad melancholy flees through fields of phlox
Now freed from winter's bonds, my heart embarks
To chase spring's sun into the summer shade.

Italian Sonnet
Friday is the day to let out your hair
To unleash your freak, to dance without care
Friday is the day to look forward to five
To unbraid your mind, to increase your “alive”.
Friday is the day to dance in the street
To laugh with your friends, to be your best freak
Friday is the day to make yourself into a whirling treat.
To be yourself totally, to unleash your adventurous streak.
Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday, why can’t you be every day my friend?
The joy would ooze out of us, it might overtake us and never end.
But then would we love it as much as we do right now?
Get out of my way, and I will show you how….
To make every day feel like a tiny bit of Friday.
It is easy to do. Just follow your heart and play.

I hear outside my window the grey dove cry
As sun slides down the mountains, and I sigh
Watching night curtaining my city
Blotting streaks of violet from the sky
Shadows start to overtake the little light
Left glimmering as day turns into night.
He has left me! Easily the dark
Empties out the joy in me that once burned bright.
No trace of light remains under the door’s crack.
The dark, dressed in ebony, slips into pitch black.
Melancholy wraps me in my silent room.
In anguish, my brain screams out: I want him back!

Old Jack hated Halloween night.
The constant ringing of his doorbell
he didn't like. So he turned off his
household lights.
His wife said, "Why did you go and
do that, Jack?" he replied "They
won't see the house, and I'll get
some rest!"
Little did Jack know that the Trick
or Treaters were determined. They
found his house, rang his doorbell
and Jacks anger just worsened!
Every time Jack got up from his
easy chair, you could hear him
mumbling to himself, and start to
swear!
The little kids would yell, "Trick
or Treat!" Jack would throw the
candy in their bags, and say half
jokingly, OK now let me be!
The doorbell would ring over
and over again. Each time the dog
would bark and Jack would cringe!
His wife would say, "Jack why
do you have to be so mean?" His
reply was, "These kids drive me
insane, non stop, that's why I hate
this Halloween!"
"Every year it's the same old
thing. The doorbell rings, and rings!"
His wife said, "Jack can't you
see the joy you bring?" "It doesn't
matter if the doorbell rings,and
rings."
"My parent's never took me
Trick or Treating. So, I never did
experience what little boys and
girls are feeling."
She felt sad for Jack she took
him by the hand and said," It's never
too late Jack, if you are willing."
They joined a group of children,
as they stopped and got some treats.
The homeowners looked at Jack in
wide- eyed disbelief!
He noticed all the fun the children
felt, as they went from door to door!
And he felt a joy overtake his heart,
and something much, much, more!
He and his wife said goodbye to
their little friends that night.
And Jack became a little boy, as he
relived his boyhood side.
Every year since he changed his
ways. Jack can't wait. To hear the
footsteps of his little friends, come,
Halloween day!
His house lights are on, and his wife
is by his side. With a great big smile
he answers the door, and acts
frighteningly surprised!
The children love Jack, it's their
favorite house to go. He fills their bags
with so much candy, their bags just
overflow.

Hell belches out more black-hearted ballads
than the accord of heaven that releases
only the innocent and wafting
lofty dreamings of a population
unversed in the ways of emotion.
They simper and insipidly bow and release
delicate praises to the air as perfume... oh joyful
white roses. Sweetly sing with your monotonous harpischords.
Not we.
We are the fire in the blackest midnight...
the mud that births monsoons of a terrible beauty.
We tremble lest our own fire overtake us, we are the torrents
that pain your face with every gleefull beat.
We are the dreamers of dreams.
We are lovers, burning holes in sheets of purity and
invincible morality... we scream and shiver to our toes...
oh haunting electricity.
We are intense anger... the fury of emperors untold...
we shatter our enemies into the oblivion they beg for mercy
fists bulging, contorted eyes stinging from the battle.
We are howls of bitter triumph, the sweet partakers of the
lost cause. We are brazen to the thought.
We are the aroma of sadness that arises from the blackest pit,
we are the oppression that snuffs out the candle.
We praise from the very depths of our cavernous abyss
our own masochistic knowledge... the fiery knowledge that burns us
as we consume ourselves.

Who can know the mysterious
ways of the clouds?
They travel in white whipped masses
and gather like solemn pinnacles
looking upwards in reverent penitence.
Silent clouds slowly form and move about
like floating fields in a heavenly marsh
or like soft suspended pillows
making themselves vulnerable
to the temperamental ways of the wind.
Sometimes they seem almost helpless
as they wander in a ghost like state
like wastrels, weighed down
by the prospect of an impending storm.
The yawning blue sky
has become quickly overwhelmed
by clouds’ alluring apertures.
Now they collectively amass
in billowing silence
crowding the vast
sweeping hemisphere.
Slanting sunlight breaks forth
to spar with clouds’ menacing shadows
that threaten to overtake the light
like competing shadow puppets
during a midday matinee.
Clouds are endlessly breathtaking
and appear seemingly mute
except for faint whispers from the winds
as if time stopped to hold its breath
within the boundaries of earth and sky.

Thank You Lord
Jesus you laid down your life for me
So I put my faith and trust in thee
The evil within tries to overtake
But I flee and resist for my soul’s sake
I stay focused on thy Lord
And yield temptations with thy sword
I turned from thy sins
And new life began
Lord, you taught me the way
And showed me I was drifting astray
Following the wandering sheep
That fled at the strike of the Shepherd’s greet
You cut down the trees and cleared a path
For those who walk it will escape the wrath
You planted the field with seeds
In hope of sprouting good deeds
It is only through your grace and mercy
That you give water, for those who drink shall never be thirsty
You are thy foundation
And deliverance out of salvation
You washed the stains from thy robe
And filled me with the spirit to stand bold
Saving me from death
And giving me everlasting breath
I wait patiently for the day
When the Lord will say
My child I am pleased
You have endured to the end
Now Come On In

You overtake - every corner of comfort, energy, rest, complacency
I don't want to have to be grateful
For each simple smile, each ordinary sunset
Because I don't want to see the finish line
I want the luxury of being
Frustrated, grouchy, impatient, annoyed
I don't want to have to swallow my words,
Face, feelings - to toe the balance between
Being his support, without being his crutch
I don't want to have to relieve
The pity on my friends' faces
I don't want to have to wonder
Whether we will have our silver anniversary
I don't want to have to count my blessings
I don't want to have to hear pithy platitudes
On hope and miracles and beating the odds
You are not a friend
You are not a gift
Your are not a strength
You are a predator, stalking me
Into the contaminated shadows
Of wait and see.

Time ticks away as a new dawn strokes your splitting heart,
with your mood swings re-writing my emphatic poetical art.
Although the fear of your demons may grip my soul
I am now immune to all the personalities you can't control.
I am lost without the warmth of your crystalline eyes,
so let your tears implode upon me under turbulent skies.
I've seen crimson and aquamarine ambers outside your tinted mists,
without boundaries or limitations, I'm one who always persists.
As I recognize the repetitive push and pull for the fearful,
you've so impulsively strained against us with forces so powerful.
I never knew there would be something sweet about a fatal kiss,
but the moment I laid my eyes upon your soul's tender bliss,
I knew no, amount of pressure could keep us apart.
despite my mind, always on an endless loop to restart,
I'll never stop trying to be by your side,
despite the havoc I will understand you tried.
There have been times you've named my trust an unfaithful land,
yet in times of turmoil you've never forgotten the future we planned.
Let me mould those wheels into emerald wrecking balls,
so we can tentatively tarnish all the forgotten falls,
as you swim from the flashbacks and triggers of satanic seas,
my arms shall always be right in-front, just as you need them to be.
Remember you'll regret loving me without maturity;
You’Il insanely struggle with immense insecurity,
because I will not let your imagination push me to insanity.
My spirit will guide me even when you feel disorientated,
as the keyholder to my chains, with you I feel liberated.
I'll constantly remind you of this forevermore,
When your fears overtake you like an irrational war.

The copse of aspens quake.
Horses graze and cows laze
as languid summer splays
emeralds in its wake,
low fields to overtake
the prospect's cyan glaze.
Immutable the sun
in lambent saffron drape
above the lucid scape
contemplates the glisten,
auscultates the paean,
the whispering of crepe
as runes the leaves impart
to dulcify the heart.*

"You shall know the Truth, and the Truth
Shall make you free."
We wait for what will never happen;
the consequences of inaction
may overtake at any moment.
Vaguely felt suspicions foment,
feed uneasiness; words half-formed
hang in air, hover just out of reach,
didactic, but never really heard --
misunderstood, despised, ignored,
or ridiculed...One must not preach!
But harken back to days of yore:
attend, and hear repeated,
as before, and yet once more:
"What fools these mortals be!"
How perfectly descriptive -- of me!

Wheels of life overtake busy hours
racing along fast highway of time,
and jammed thoughts forget sunset’s delight
while roses, once in love, stoop... tires fizzle,
even when the hills fondle the peaks
of embossed leaves, there are no hours
for leisure on the streams, not yet.
Still, when evanescent light
envelopes all things tender and dusk floats
along a wing of clouds, He waits there...
The shepherd becoming one of his sheep
guiding freely, moving quietly
content as breath of air,
telling me to listen softly where
a fragile voice awakens a hum
within my bosom... a Source unseen
yet felt deeply, as if to comfort
this restless spirit that the journey lies
in not asking why, but trusting
how, in silence, He waits with me.

When I'm down and my troubles overtake me,
And I can't understand just what to do,
I feel so small and He's so far up above me,
I wonder can He really see and hear me,too.
My hope, I call on Him to listen,
For, I know His answers will be true.
On Him I pour my troubled soul,
For I know He's in control,
In the shelter of His wings,
He'll see me through.
Oh,hallelujah, praise His name, what a Saviour.
When I call on Him He's always there.
I have no doubt that my prayers, He will answer,
For with His wings He shelters me with care.
We're living in an age of self-destruction.
Satan seems to be in control everywhere.
So many lives have been shattered and broken,
Yet, as Christians it seems we do not care.
I know it won't be long 'till Jesus comes again,
Our heartaches and troubled lives will disappear,
But until then I'll keep my eyes upon my Saviour,
Cause with His wings I'm sheltered in His care.

The moon plays at being the midnight sun
with abandon he struts across the sky
in such majesty it catches my eye
I bow in obeisance, my heart is won
Behind him come plunderous clouds of white
riders on horses with dust in their wake
racing steeds on a quest to overtake
the renegade moon in his selfish plight
Closing in for capture they poise their net
as the stars watch their proud King's demise
the clouds press on eager to seize the prize
and use the moon's light to their own benefit
The final bugle sounds, in hues of gold
The sun peeks up to watch it all unfold
