Best Overlooked Poems

Overlooked

The things you don't do shine so bright
Like flashlight in the middle of the night.
The things you do well blend in like,
Camouflage in the shadows of others light.

Your hard work is barely seen,
Hiding your stress behind the scenes.
Always confronted about the things
That everyone sees.
You barely hear a positive thing.
At times it feels as if
You're living out a bad dream.

Never though this feeling would last so long,
Feels like a roller coaster going on and on.
No stopping point nearby,
So you stay in one place a cry.
Missing a shoulder to lean on
Wishing someone was there to lean on.

Blending in like camouflage
And no one knows where to find you.
People stare you straight in the face,
Yet they don't see your face.

The things you don't do shine so bright
Like flashlight in the middle of the night.
The things you do well blend in like
Camouflage in the shadows of others light.

Working hard in the dark,
In the light you miss the mark.
Like shooting blanks at a target
Or grocery shopping with empty pockets.

It doesn't add up, when you actually try,
No one's around to cheer you on.
When you make a mistake,
You can't catch a break.
When the pressures on you feel the heat
This is your chance to really speak.

So ready to prove yourself, take a step of faith
Every eye is on you standing in the spotlight.
But then you make a mistake,
And all eyes turn away;
Laughing as everyone walks away.

The things you don't do shine so bright
Like flashlight in the middle of the night.
The things you do well blend in like,
Camouflage in the shadows of others light.

Overlooked Tradition

Deprived pilgrim wives ruminated
On ways to get hubbies elated:
After Thanksgiving chow
Ogling men hollered “wow!”
As wet-shirted women they rated.

The Babbling Brook

The Babbling Brook

The babbling brook was very loud.
When people saw her first, she drew quite a crowd.
Usually, brooks are relaxing and smooth
This brook was different, but not to be rude.
She always kept the villagers up at night.
But they were very kind and didn’t put up a fight,
She babbled and spoke from dark till light.
In the middle of the village, where the brook was in sight.
Though everyone could see it, it was still overlooked
They had the wrong impression on the babbling brook.
One day, a girl, who was small and kind
Sat by the brook and a question came in her mind.
“Hey Brook, Why don’t you tell me a story?”
Then it started talking about its former glory
It chatted and chatted, and it wasn’t boring.
The other villagers noticed and starting to listen.
At the end of the tale, their eye sort of glistened
When they snapped out of it, they started to cheer
They asked more, for more they wanted to hear
Everyone started to like the babbling brook.
And it alerted them from every thief and crook.
Their lives got better, and the reason is quite clear.
A key to happiness is just to open your ear.

I cry out

I am alone

Overlooked Potential

Feeling left out in the cold
Tossed aside like bread with mold
Can't they see the hidden gold
A diamond in the rough
Underneath my surface.

Can't you see my potential
Yet your blinded by successes
While one has more experience
I just got the listings
Of the work I've done
Volunteering around.

I maybe a naive, little girl
In this crazy, weird world
Yet I got so much to give
If you just put me to the test
I'll show you what I got.

Though my disability
May hold me back at times
I won't let it limit
The things I can do
Surpass limitation
To make the impossible possible.

I can overcome the barrier
To show you a warrior
With a mighty roar
Who's ready to soar.

Don't judge me
For what I lack
I make up for it
With what I know.

Don't overlook me
I'm a rare opportunity
You might lose the chance
To see what I got
A hardworking girl
With a passionate soul.

Premium Member The Flower With Overlooked Beauty

How cute are the flowers that come to my lawn,
but these little flowers are oft frowned upon.

People don’t like them because they grow tall,
and many folks just mow them down, one and all

Yes, they wilt and they wither, that’s also true,
but so do all flowers. It’s what flowers do!

These small diehard dudes bring themselves back alive,
bursting like popcorn. Oh, how they do thrive!

Their shriveled up bodies, much like a cacoon,
emerge looking different. What do we see soon?

Feather-heads in my yard come into sight,
each sending seeds sailing off, fluffy and white.

The seeds, when they fall to the ground, will beget
circles of leaves, which are called a rosette.

Though the leaves are not sweet, we can make from them tea
with nutrients given for us naturally!

They help one’s digestion and even the brain!
Plus other great blessings from this plant we gain.

The overlooked beauty of health in the seed
of the dandelion makes it much more than a weed!

Some think a vulture is the ugliest bird.
Her red-black-eye beak looks a little absurd.

Ruthless and greedy, she can make you wretch.
But if you get to know her, she will easily fetch.

She is big and strong with gorgeous black wings.
Carrion feeder, helps with lots of things.

Her flight pattern is a joy to behold.
Her wrinkly neck may have a splat of gold.

If you look, beauty is all you will see.
She happily cleans road kill for you and me.

Sun

must i arise every dawn
to do nothing but shine upon
and warm all those who shiver
i, a scorching giver

and rarely am i truly praised
seldom i am looked upon
my rays seep through the cloudy haze
the foggy mist of early dawn

but no one seems to thank my presence
scarcely do they think me pleasant
often just a searing blister
only wanted in the winter

for that is when they realize
they miss my warming rays
they crave the brilliant, sunny skies
a sparkle through the gloomy haze

if i should leave, would they care?
would they be left beyond repair?
only deep in snow they see
that they, in fact, do need me

Premium Member Overlooked Beauty

Hidden away on our lush verdant hills
are crumbling houses and derelict mills

These ancient buildings are tumbling down,
many people ignore them with a frosty frown!

If folks just opened their eyes and they weren’t so aloof
they’d learn a Tholtan’s a building that’s missing its roof!

Tumbledown cottages covered with green velvet beauty
I’m going to explore these old Tholtans, I feel it’s my duty!

I saw a grinding wheel which milled grain when it turned
and a charred fireplace where a blazing fire once burned

If only walls could speak they would tell a story
of a once thriving building in its original glory

Inspired by a talk from Ray Kelly who has opened MY eyes to the hidden beauty of these Tholtans.

Overlooked Beauty

Overlooked beauty

At the backyard of my colony's lane
Crumbles an old banyan tree slowly on verge of getting waned

Not worthy of a second glance
An overlooked beauty as in forgotten time's trance

Pulchritude ignored by almost every passer-by
Sole witness of ever changing world since ages below heavenly skies

Must have given shade to countless travellers in scorching summers
Birds slept safe beneath it's glossy leaves in nights of frigid winters

Still shelter for woodpeckers drumming on it's stiff boughs
Wind passes whistling through it's strewn parched branches on an unending drowse

Last razors of golden sunlight fall on it before melting at distant hillocks
An illusion of spectre forms as aerial roots sway giving fear shocks

Woody trunks hiding in themselves tranquil million stories
An overlooked beauty with fading structure demonstrating old glories

Premium Member Snapshot of Overlooked Beauty

A lake cradled in the Himalayan foothills’ verdant cleft
Its acclaimed beauty on the azure water sun did reflect.

Not for long though, a sprawling hamlet’s arms spread
Toxic pollutant stream in the lake it drained and shed.

Crystal clear water soon became algal and eutrophic
Decimated shortly all the thriving life forms aquatic.

The lake invaded by water hyacinth and wild weed
Turned over time to boggy waste landscape indeed.

The sparkling ripples were stilled at dark depth alone
The serene shadows of slope-lined pines were gone.

In unsightly wetland amidst the Himalayan splendor
Saw one dawn hyacinth clusters bloom purple flower.

Glossy jade leaves glistened under the golden sun
On wings of butterflies the dance of joy had begun.

So enthralling was the display of nature’s bounty
I still cherish the snapshot of overlooked beauty.

UNCLAIMED FREIGHT

I offered myself to you - Rejected many for you, made myself
Exclusively yours - You never understood that I was not here
To endure jealousy, hate or envy –
Only to serve you and teach you how to include instead of excluding...
You looked over and under but never really looked at me.
Patted my head most appeasingly.

I felt like the puppy with eyes waiting for that proverbial bone.
Then, when keener eyes saw what you never saw;
Benefited from my earthly presence;
Suddenly like a spoiled child who never
played with his wind-up toy;

Until someone else wound it up he,
Now wanted to claim that toy to be his favorite.
You should have examined me; and found my key…
loved me, and explore my inner workings up close,
Before it was too late to relate...

Another metaphor would be
They valued what you failed to see.
You were blind to see my worth…

You never claimed me for yourself.
Left me sitting on the warehouse shelf
You seemed surprised, they bided high
Because what’s yours is not yours
“If you don't claim it!”!
Unclaimed freight…
“goes to the highest bidder”.

I hear him rambling on about the way he makes a mess
the way he eats his tomatoes then leaves with no confess
the flowers have been bent in his garden's sanctuary
he's a little creature wild yes he's very quite contrary
He's always climbing fences coming round the gate
still, curiosity is trump and he loves him without hate

Watching from a window he's waits for the drill
he's a little furry squirrel he comes and goes at will
then one day I look from the outer patio door
Aldo is in a lawn chair reading softly with adore
There upon his foot two little beady eyes of sweet
watching him intently how nice they finally meet

Over morning breakfast he tells me he is smug
as I butter bread and fill the coffee mug
There's a glitter in his eye that says he ain't so shy
he really loves the little pug but I can't tell you why
every time I see a trace of peels atop our fence,
I smile a little smile and win in self defence..

Every good is selling at
Five dollars per piece
Attending to the poor
The low income groups
The people in needs
The non-fix salary groups
Fighting with
The tide of inflation
The economic crisis
Thank God
The plights of the poor
Never to be overlooked
