Last year I went nuts gathering dandelion leaves from my front yard to wash and use in salads. Later I heard about the organic tea which includes roots and is so much simpler to use and not expensive if you buy in bulk. Check out its nutrional value. It's incredible!

How cute are the flowers that come to my lawn, but these little flowers are oft frowned upon. People don’t like them because they grow tall, and many folks just mow them down, one and all Yes, they wilt and they wither, that’s also true, but so do all flowers. It’s what flowers do! These small diehard dudes bring themselves back alive, bursting like popcorn. Oh, how they do thrive! Their shriveled up bodies, much like a cacoon, emerge looking different. What do we see soon? Feather-heads in my yard come into sight, each sending seeds sailing off, fluffy and white. The seeds, when they fall to the ground, will beget circles of leaves, which are called a rosette. Though the leaves are not sweet, we can make from them tea with nutrients given for us naturally! They help one’s digestion and even the brain! Plus other great blessings from this plant we gain. The overlooked beauty of health in the seed of the dandelion makes it much more than a weed! Nov. 11, 2018 for Jesse Rowe's Overlooked Beauty Poetry Contest

Yes, a beautiful and delightful poem! Congrats on a much deserved first place win! Dandelion tea would be hard to drink every day but I have every once in a blue moon :)

Hi Andrea, a very interesting poem from your golden pen. I love the flow and the rhyme of this piece. Here in Scotland the Dandelion is a pesky critter, sometimes hard to get rid of. I guess this is so everywhere. I have never looked at things as creatively as you have. Once again a beautiful poem on the subject. i hope you do well in the contest. have a wonderful Sunday. Hugs....Mike. XX

It was brought over here by the colonist as a food source. I think the leaves are in salads at restaurants now along with beet greens and arugula leaves. I don't really like hot tea very much sometimes a cup of Earl Grey with Bergamot but not very often. Enjoyed reading your work. Very informative. I put a long reply to your comment on my work about my heart if you care to read it. Thanks for stopping by. Sara

We make tea from them as well, (my mom started doing it in the early 80's), but we make it from the stems. Great write - I have always loved dandies, especially the thistled late stage. Good luck in the contest! (Soup Mail)

Wow! I am amazed you could write all that without mentioning all the good things dandy lion wine can do for you! Or were you keeping that a secret on purpose? Aloha! Rico

I read of the wine (Ray Bradbury) but never tasted it for myself. I can't imagine it tastes good. AT least tea you can add in lots of honey!! and the tea is the healthiest for it includes the roots.

I LOVE your poem- and your choice of subject! Wonderful tribute to a terribly underappreciated flower (and plant)! ;)

Oh Andrea, I know that Jesse will love this wonderfully created poem about the beauty of the Dandelion. I am glad they are hardy and grow easily. In Bavaria they cover hills in golden glory. I was in awe of them when I visited in spring. I am sure to see this poem on the winner's list my friend! : )

Bavaria is one of the most beautiful pristine places on earth Andrea. It was one of my favorite ever vacations. My sister in law spoke enough German to find us a wonderful B&B that caters to mostly Germans and thise who live in Germany and it was situated by a fast flowing river coming from the Alps that ran past a forest. It felt like Heaven might feel. : )

Andrea, I love dandelions so much, I forgot that others did not until I read this beautiful tribute to them, my friends. I also plant clover, which some steer away from, but my bunnies and deer love my yard, and so do I.

You certainly found the beauty in that flower...all the attributes are true..including the weed part..and the hate part..but I must say your tribute makes one forget the bad..and focus on the good.

Delightful, Andrea! I remember when you first told me about the benefits of dandelions. As a child, I picked them and gave them to my mother. They were so plentiful. Thanks for sharing their medicinal value and best wishes in the contest, my friend! Hugs, Carolyn
