Best Not Getting Any Younger Poems

Premium Member Horse of the Highlands

Lost was I amidst the Scottish highlands
The evening sky was blushing heaven-kissed
Hilltops pierced the dusky fog like islands
As soft a horse came swimming thru the mist

Pausing to consider its intentions
I stood there hypnotized and still as death
Thus its beauty quelled my apprehensions
And naught there was but magic in its breath

Like the grand Bucephalus he gestured
Nodding with his head for me to follow
With the trails deep in the brume and vestured
Held no greater hopes until the morrow

Building in my gut were pangs of hunger
Outside the hopes of finding further aid
Sixty and not getting any younger
My future hinged on choices to be made

Little left to lose I started hiking
Just steps behind the stallion as he led
Even in the dark his hide was striking
His color white as sheets and purely bred

On we walked for miles through the night, dim
Until I spied some farm lights further on
Stopping to remember him and thank him
But searching through the darkness ... he was gone.

Rivers

There's a river of emotion
that flows into the sea.
And a river of devotion
that's pouring out of me.

Like sunshine breaking through the clouds
in the middle of a storm.
I'm coming, yes I'm coming.
In my love I'll keep you warm.

Like food is to a starving man
who's not getting any younger.
I'll fill you up and give you hope
and drive away your hunger.

Like a tiny boat that's lost at sea
no help for them in sight.
I'll reach for you I'll reach right through
the darkest lonely night.

Like a singer on an empty stage
the crowd has come and gone.
I'm standing still, I always will
and I will cheer you on.

Though multitudes might gather
and shout and curse your name.
It is I whose love won't die
I'll love you just the same.

Eager To Write

Now before we get started let me tell you this.
Twenty five years I've been out of school.
Not one single day of it do I miss.
My writing is mine & there are no rules.

My words are delivered with a lot of passion.
Every verse is straight from the heart.
I put it all together in my own fashion.
I've never considered myself to be very smart.

To get it out of my head and onto the paper,
brings me relief to say the least.
To keep it all in would be much safer,
but I'm searching hard for that inner peace.

Some of these poems may give you tears,
but some of them will make you smile.
Some are based on my biggest fears.
Some from when I was just a child.

I tend to get down to the nitty gritty.
Not really worried about what others say.
Don't want anything in return, especially pity.
Maybe someday I will actually get paid.

I'm not getting any younger, that's for sure.
One neck surgery, that's enough.
For getting older, there is no cure.
I'm finally admitting that I'm not so tough.

So a writing career is my dream.
Boy I should have paid attention in school.
I've always been a late bloomer it seems.
I have no clue about grammar rules.

In school literature was a breeze.
The semester of grammar was another story.
I read and wrote with joy and ease.
but my punctuation was downright gory.

Editors should all be millionaires.
They are special, there is no doubt.
They take your work and magically repair,
the mess you make of what you write about.

So here I go on my writing spree.
Something that i've always loved to do.
It has pretty much replaced TV,
listening to music and sleeping too.

I hope you enjoy all that I have to say.
Even though some seems a little bit dark.
Maybe I can get published someday.
Hopefully I have that special spark.

I'M Not Getting Any Younger

I'm not getting any younger
My aim now is to live longer
To do as much as possible of good deeds
& to stay far away from all what God forbids

I'm not getting any younger
Nor am I getting older
I still can fall in love, as love is innocent
And age is just a number

I'm not getting any younger
To my mom I'll always be a baby
So I still can laugh out loud
Until now while watching Tom and Jerry

I'm not getting any younger
I know my life can end anytime but my life is not yet over
So I have all the right to have every kind of fun
To smile all the time and have a good life like everyone

I'm not getting any younger
So I still can change for better
I'm a bad person that's what people think but it doesn't matter
Just wait and watch all who were blind will see soon or later

I'm not getting any younger
And yes I haven't stop dreaming as I'm still a dreamer
As still some of my dreams are unfulfilled
But I believe in God, as surely one day God will grant my prayer.

We'Re Not Getting Any Younger

You can go or you can stay, it's entirely up to you
She said laying all her cards upon the table
Call me later when you figure what it is you want to do
Close the gate or let the horse out of the stable.

I kind of figured out I was ruining short on time
When she asked about my dreams and aspirations
I was very happy, thought that we were doing fine
But then future plans ruled every conversation

So I made a made a mental list of what I wanted from my life
I even hunted down a pencil and some paper
What I needed did not stray beyond some children and a wife
What I wanted used up all of the eraser.

So I called her on the phone and asked her if she was alone
And did she want to hear what i was thinking
I said it's time I settled down, took a wife and build a home
And before you ask me no I ain't been drinking.

Often I Ponder

8/28/17
"

One day
I may
Leave impressions
Questions
About simple things and other dimensions
With different facial expressions
Paying attention
In all directions
With good intentions
Learning lessons
Because there could be no exceptions

Before it all goes down the gutter
And I go under
Still full of wonder
So much to discover
Among seas and lumber
During rain and thunder
Can't remain in slumber
Not getting any younger
No good in being dumber

Occasionally had one too many lagers
And thought why bother?
Mind beginning to wander
Often I ponder
Near here and over yonder
Working to prosper
With a lot to offer
Including, reliability and honor

Not getting richer
By being bitter
And a quitter
Got to deliver
On any side of the river
With much to consider
Before I wither

I, a Grown Up

This is me grown up
How hard could that be?
This is me 18 years later
Aren't I supposed to be free?

This is me grown up
Is this not how you raised me?
A character, an independent
Is it too much? I'm sorry

This is me grown up
Still doing things you would want me to
Should I stop now?
I don't think you'd ever want me to

This is me grown up
Distorted and confused
But you never know that
I intend you'd never have to

This is me grown up
Life beating me up
Sometimes you help me, sometimes you don't
Maybe sometimes you should stop

This is me grown up
Now built in with imperfections
Do you still see your child?
I wish you'd try to read my emotions

This is me grown up
Not getting any younger
But I feel you want me acting older
I hope you do not forget you've raised an actor

Different Colors

10/28/16

No time for any sucker
Since I'm not getting any younger
Got to stay up, before getting permanently put under
I don't need no maid or butler
The same can be said for any cookie cutter

Anyday, as I do and don't discover
Among things intact and punctured

Straight up gutter
Near and far away from any buzzards
Onto something rougher and tougher
Year round, fall, winter, spring and summer

A world full of so much different colors
As well as things labeled and numbered
Either disorganized or well structured

Mass quantities of items have been plundered
Much of which became asunder

Nobodies perfect we all make blunders
Respect and love your sisters, brothers and mother

Similar yet different from one another
Near and far from lumber
During sunshine, rain, snow and thunder
I can't help but wonder
Due to my own curiosity and hunger

Sky's the Limit

8/7/16

Does it truly matter if
There is anything after this?

Who can say
Night and day

Questions that just may never be answered
Amid a world full of so many colors, shapes and patterns

Sky's the limit
If you actually try to get it
Everyday not just for five minutes

To be honest
We all end up with wins and losses
If you're talking about every aspect and being rather modest

Why stress
Focus and have a much more positive mindset
Just because it didn't work out, doesn't mean things will turn out the same
Regardless of what you do and don't find next
It just may not be your time yet

Keep on
And be strong

I can only give out so much advice
Throughout life
Because it comes from the heart and soul, and not with a price

Respect and love to my friends, brother
Sisters and mother
As well as all others

Forward motion and upward
Every single season not just during the summer
As well as any kind of weather, some of which thundered

I've made many blunders
Through all my experiences, none of which kept me under

You want to know me better and see my true colors
Read some of my recent writings and they just may be discovered

I could sit here and wonder
But I'd rather go now, considering that I'm not getting any younger

Work smarter ( harder)
Think harder ( smarter)
If you really want to get farther

I've said it before and I'll say it again
Because I want others to understand and comprehend
Before the end

Premium Member A Faerie Tale For Assertive Girl Children

Once upon a mountaintop a she-monster named Mazy
was searching for a man.
She wanted a young, honest alien man. Not a nutty old
tooth-jagged Monster like Bill or Dan.
We were horrified. Inner-galaxy dating was ridiculous.
It did not work, and was crazy.
Bill and Dan had already trained lots of wives,
and if anyone needed wife-training, it was Mazy.

She was an odd duck, always reading a book,
studying biographies, and learning crazy new things.
No Monster Man wants a smart wife; they all want an un-learned one
Who will let them be overbearing kings.
They want to be able to order them up and down, here and there,
Women who are non-subversively.
They want women who will submit to their will,
Think they are smart, and revere them unmercifully.

Mazy had been terribly spoiled. She had been allowed to paint,
and laugh, and sing, or hug a tree.
Worst of all, she was reading Encyclopedias, was working on her Teacher Training PhD.
All she should be taught to do is clean the cave out for her husband and bring his dinner on time,
This other junk, she would never use was an absolute total waste of energy sublime.

Mazy at 23 was not getting any younger -way too happy and pretty for her own “good”.
“She is certifiable,” the jealous ones said. “She will die a horrible death, alone, as a spinster should.
She was holding out for an alien man she had danced with on Venus in many of her terrific dreams.
He came down in his spaceship on a Thursday, and
Whisked Mazy away to where her visions had always dream-seen.

Leaving earth planet, some of us heard Alien Zeke tell her, “You may learn as much as you want now.”
What insane sorcery is this? That is crazy talk, right? We petitioned her to come back and bow.
We wanted her to choose Monster Bill or Dan and stop learning a new language every single week.
But for some odd reason, she stayed away, in the arms of her progressive alien man named Zeke.

Ol' Sea Snake's Carriage Ride

Ol' Sea Snake's Carriage Ride

Cobblestones wobble and rock the carriage,
as I circle these streets with Blue Bits and
Derby Boy on this vibrant morning.

With the sun on my back and a salty gale brushing
by, my spirits soar as I imagine what the day will bring.

People come from all over to tour this city,
and soak up it's history and scenic views.

Why not climb aboard my carriage and take
a brisk ride with me on this beautiful day?

As we trot through the historic district, I'll
tell you some of our most scandalous folklores
and show you their shocking locations,
like Copper Moon Ridge, where pirates once
dressed as dames to steal their first good swig
of America's finest moonshine.
It's still pretty darn good!

You'll see the towering cliff views of our granite
lighthouse, whose menacing design has weathered
decades of the ocean's pounding tides.

We'll squeeze in time to feed the beached seals basking
in the sun or catch a rare glimpse of the orca whales
playing in our bay.

If romance is your desire, I'll tool you around in the moonlight,
to our brightest vistas that magnify the star's diamond twinkles.
...Perfect for capturing your lover's passion-heart.
I'll even take a long stroll, just to assure you of your privacy.
 ...Gentleman's honor, I won't take a peek!

If it's fish and chips you seek, we'll head over to
Smacky-Bud's Mackerel Shack for the tastiest fish around.
But I'll be up front with you, don't feed any to Derby n' Bits
or it'll be a long ride back.

So jump aboard and take a ride with this Ol' Sea Snake,
while there's still time.
I'm not getting any younger!

You day-trippers spend too much of your weekly grind
in your lackluster cars.

Come, sit back and unwind for a short time.
I'll sweep you back to the golden age of enchantment,
when hearts would mysteriously merge on a slow-trotting
carriage ride. Memories like these could last you a lifetime!

Conflict of the Soul

Well and I'm just about tired of looking for love
But my heart refuses to give up on the dream
Somewhat of a tug of war, Conflict of the Soul
Caught somewhere in between light and dark
And no I am not getting any younger don't
You know...
But tonight you have given me hope in
Something that might last a lifetime but
Then again I could be wrong Lord knows
I've been known to be wrong before
But I don't want to be wrong anymore
I guess we'll just have to wait and see if
It’s meant to be!
Because I'm so close to giving up but
The passion inside still lingers even though
I've never really know true love
I've always been a dreamer, I’ve always been
A dreamer...
But my heart refuses to give up on the dream
Somewhat of a tug of war, Conflict of the Soul
Caught somewhere in between light and dark
And no I am not getting any younger don't
You know...
Heaven knows and God only knows though
What tomorrow will bring, it’s a leap of faith
Even if it's yet another mistake ending again
In heartache it's just The Conflict of the Soul
Standing at the crossroads with arms full of
Dead roses somewhere under a twisted
Rainbow oh well it's just The Conflict of The Soul
Conflict of the Soul!

Take a Chance

Go Ahead, Take a Chance and read it to the end:

Thirty years from now how would we look?
If only there was a way to look it up in a book.
I thought about it as I saw you standing there
You had an imposing look, an indignant air.
My friend nudged me forward to take a chance

Were you really what I had been looking for?
Or was I, as usual, looking for so much more?
All the questions were raised within my mind
As I studied your features to see what I’d find.
My friend nudged me again, “Give it a chance!”

I knew if this worked I’d owe her a big debt
And I wondered if I should take this big step.
I studied you once again from top to bottom
Looking for problems I could run away from.
I wondered if you were worth taking a chance.

Of course I would show you off to Christine,
I knew my best friend’s face would turn green.
She’d say, “Where were you when I needed you?”
She’d look annoyed, and I knew that it was true
And that she wouldn’t have given up this chance

I was surprised to see you were so much older
I thought to myself, or was I so much younger?
Would age really matter between you and me?
Neither of us was as young as we used to be.
I studied you again, should I take this chance?

Would we both look the same as we grow older?
Will I lean upon you then with my tired shoulder?
I smiled at you shyly and then looked around us.
My friend nudged me, saying, “What’s the fuss?
You’re not getting any younger, take the chance.”

I closed my eyes, wondering if this was meant to be
And would you, looking so solitary, open up to me?
Would I be able to get past all your built up walls?
And when I’m gone all day because my work calls
Would you be glad that I’d finally taken a chance?

Looking at you, I thought about a cold winter’s day
When the weather outside is all stormy and gray
And I’d shiver and think about turning the heat on
I knew you would warm me from dusk until dawn.
Then, I finally knew you really were worth the chance.

I shook my head out of my reverie and smiled again.
And I turned, looking at you and then my good friend,
“I think you can say this one is sold finally.”
We hugged and she nailed on the sign carefully:
“Last Chance Realty Company, Why Not Take a Chance?”
                                     SOLD

Goodbye Birthday

GoodBye Birthday
Well, another birthday has come and gone.
The older you get, the more you regret.
The days you have let slip on by.
Remembering the things you have done.
Taking note of the things you still want to do.
Time is ticking away for you.
Days have turned into years.
It seems like in the blink of the eye.
Some have not been so good to you.
Some times you have not been so good to yourself.
You sit and think...What if....
What if I did this, instead of that?
So, you decide it's time, after all you're not getting any younger.
