My Tricycle -

~My Tricycle~

Christmas eve,
I could not help but peek.

There it was, a blue and pinkish bike.
With streamers all for me...

A ride, I wanted to feel inside.
A surprise, I ruined for my eyes.
The joy I felt, a naughty kid like me could not hide.

Running back into my room, jumping with glee.

Waiting and waiting...............................................

Christmas day, comes to life.
I'm all excited.. With the biggest grin...
Mommy walks me to my bike.
My grin slowly fades away.
A red tricycle, I start to cry.

I did not understand, why my older sister got the pretty bike.
My Christmas, ruined by a ruby red tricycle.

Mommies, hug did not comfort me.
I cried all night, and asked my daddy'
"How can this be?"
"It's not fair!"
"it's not fair!"

Daddy, had only one response..
"Sweetie, soon you will see."

New Years Eve**

I sit near the windowpane.
Staring at my sister ride her blue pinkish bike.
Even the streamers were laughing at me.

Night fall comes around..
It's cold and everyone is asleep.

I sneak my way into the barn.
I stare at it~
My sisters bike!
The smile on my face, I still can't erase.
"This bike will be mine tonight."

I grab the bike by the handles bars.
I walk the bike under the stars.

Two hours pass, and still I can't operate the pedals.
Finally I remove my shoes, and reach the pedals with my toes.
I'm off into the night, than suddenly I fell upon them rocks.
If only I waited for that push from daddy's hands.

:To Be Continued:

Lesson not learned,
My scars all accounted for.

New Years Resolution

Love more, when it is hardest to love.
Show compassion, always.
Be kind when deserved or not.
Be patient, when you are at the end of your rope.
Smile, when you are saddest.
Pray when you are at your lowest.
Thank God when you are at your highest.

New Year Media Noche - The Retourne

More than the grand fireworks display,
above chart-topper music blast;
What is the highlight of this night -
The Media Noche, New Year’s toast.

Above chart-topper music blast,
stay still awhile, to breathe our thanks;
A farewell to the year that was
and welcome one - now upon us.

What is the highlight of this night -
Carousing, whole night rejoicing?
Babe year pushing rudely the old,
at street parties ruled by one clan?

The Media Noche, New Year’s toast -
Grounding to roots, a youngster’s boast.
Each morsel chew, each laugh renews,
one's world-weary bones and sinew.

My New Years Resolution

My New Years resolution is not to make any more New Years resolutions!
I've made 'em in the past but they died on the craggy shoals of the Aleutians!
I'd swear to ease up on the vittles but I caught those scales lyin' to me.
I tried to curb my cussin' by usin' terms like gosh, darn and golly gee!

I resolved to be more courteous to other drivers and not flex my middle digit,
And be more patient with my kids when they wanted to squirm and fidget!
I vowed to take my dentist's advice and floss my choppers each and every day.
I flossed religiously but lost my religion leavin' my teeth prone to decay!

I promised myself that I'd exercise regularly in order to keep fit and trim,
But preferred lollin' in my LazyBoy with a beer sans goin' to the gym!
'Tis obvious when it comes to keepin' resolutions I ain't got much fortitude,
So I reckon I'll take my chances and not lock-in on any inane platitude!

Don't Hug And Drive

On this eve before New Years I resolved to be cheerful
But while driving my car, another car bumped me
The driver got out, and he gave me an ear full!
It took but a moment, and I knew he was beer filled!
Disgusted and angry, I found myself grumpy
I called the police, and they came to the crash
So I cheered up, and resolved, and expressed my relief
So happy, I hugged them and offered a kiss
Well they thought ME imbibed!!!
So they took me inside
And into a jail cell...I was thrown like a flash
My mood isn't good...I'm as mad as a hen!!
My great resolution has faded again!
How can this girl be happy,
When justice kidnaps me?
I'm spending my New Year's locked up in the pen!!

Friend

Be my friend
Walk with me when I am walking
Sit with me when I am sitting
Hug me when I need a hug
Talk with me when I need someone to talk to

Ignore me when I am angry
Hold me when I am crying
Be there through my sorrows
Help me carry the load when I am struggling

Be there when I need someone
Help me to move on with my life
Be the one person who never judges me
Show me how to be a better person

Most of all love me for who I am
With all my faults
Also the good parts as well
Just be the person you are
My beloved
My Friend

T'was The Night After New Years

(True story...!!)
                                   ~
T'was the night after New Years, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings and tree stored away with a sigh,
Finished the eggnog, and the last piece of pie.
Me in my nightie, while Pa fed the cat
We had just let the dog out, and said, "Goodnight, dear, that's a wrap!"
Then we both settled down for a long winter's nap

When the phone by the bedside, cracked the silence with a clatter!
And I awoke in a daze to see what was the matter!
Neighbor Dan on the phone.....he needed some help!
I laughed when he told me, in spite of myself!
A cow's in his pool, so chubby and plump!!
He needed some help to haul out it's big rump!

Rushing over,...to my wondering eyes should appear
There's Old Bessie in water, her eyes full of fear!
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof,
Old Bessie was frightened, she had made a big goof!

Friends ran to the rescue, and went straight to work...
Taking care that poor Bessie wouldn't get hurt.
They put heads together and laid out a plan,
Getting ropes 'round Old Bessie as fast as they can.
Tied the ropes to Dan's truck, then gave him a whistle
And up came Old Bessie like the down of a thistle!
She shook from the cold like a bowlful of jelly,
So they patted and prodded, till she rolled on her belly.
Then off ran the cow, with relief and so merry,
Her cheeks a bit frozen, her nose like a cherry!

We were offered hot chocolate to warm up again,
Four o'clock in the morning, and it was time to turn in!
Our neighbor called out, as we got out of sight,
"Have a good year and thank you!! And to all a good night!"

                                              ~
That's how our New Year began,.... Country life is, seriously,....NOT boring!!
So you think, I'm way off track, mixing holiday stories?
The gift of friendship, where neighbors help their neighbors
What better gift for a Christmas, much better late, than never
Sometimes, Christmas shows up later. It's no cause for alarm
The charm is often hidden, one you'll laugh about forever

New Year Changes

New Years Day
Is a time for change
People change for the better
Some don't change at all
Most don't follow through
My New Years resolution
Is to not fall
Into the endless pit
Of abandonment
And follow through
With my New Years resolution

Early New Years

Dark hair blowing
In the winds of hot desire
And dark eyes glowing
Like two diamonds filled with fire.
         Dancing to the rhythms;
         Well into the night;
         Nothing taken most was given
         Rocking on till all’s right
Was it accordance?
Or maybe a prelude who’s to know;
But it was certainly fully loaded;
Dangerously speedy but comfortably slow.
           Cocktails at the penthouse;
           Lights down low
           Cat tails swishing
           Nothing left to show

The Oath

As I sit on the stand and raise my right
hand and swear to tell the whole truth.

I look at the man that raised his right hand
and made me suffer through all the abuse.

As I tell everyone what he has done,
his face turns red and I wish he were dead
but wishes don't always come true.

So as I step down from the stand to become a new man,
the darkness breaks free as the light finds me.

For the first time in year's I have other
tear's, tear's of happiness.

Now I'm free from all the wasted tears and all the
wasted fears, Because new years is a smile away.

Back Then

New Years eve gave warmth even in the winds chill.
Young lovers with open arms.
And a wreckless passion so very eager to fulfill.

So blessed to live tonight no need to draw a line.
Kisses tasting sweatier flavored by whisky champagne and wine.

Counting down the seconds down till the next year.
A moment of pure bliss.
I love you seem's to be all your heart needs to hear.

We live.
We learn.
We love we yern.

For that which cannot be held in hand.
You can ask my dear but you can never command.

Don't question for we have moments in time that shall never change.
that is perfection beyond the the life that appears so very strange.

Back then can never be now.
I'd move past her memorie.
If only someone could tell me how.

My biggest fear was...me

I guess I cant hide anymore
I must be upfront with who i am, who I've been all these years
I'm not the average girl
Yea, i admitt, I got issues
but who are you to judge
I'm not going to hide anyomore,Im looking fear in its eyes
Im not gonna cry
What you see is what you get
Dont like it?
Tuff sh-
Im not Kay kay anymore Im Akribah
Who I've been hiding from for years
 Yea I cut
okay so what
Alright I listen to Avril Lavigne and Fall Out Boy
Thats my business
Just let me be me
What I do has nothen to do with who I am
Im that same girl that you knew years ago
I just grew up
Ive learned that its ok to be me
you dont like it?
Ask me if i care
 Im living for me
Something I should have done years ago
I lost my grip on life
But I was given a second chance
And this time Im not gonna hide
Im gonna look fear in its eyes
Im not gonna cry
I cant hide anymore
I refuse to hide anymore
what you see is what you get
Dont like it?

Black-eyed Peas

Nigh on sixty years ago this Yankee from the State of Indiana,
Wed a lovely Confederate lass from the State of Louisiana!
I thought I knew her pretty well by the time our vows were read,
But there was a New Years Day secret that she had left unsaid!

Seems there's an old southern tradition that I'd never heard of before.
By eatin' black-eyed peas on New Years Day you'd have good luck, she swore!
That lowly, bland legume is rather tasteless but a hambone spices it up.
And my spouse adds this and that to the mix, usin' her measurin' cup.

With the black-eyed peas is served cornpone (as it's called in Dixie land),
From a recipe handed down by generations and it must be made by hand!
Since I was introduced to that humble pea known for its great good luck,
'Tis our chuck on New Years Day with a generous decanter of Cold Duck!

Now, in Hoosier Land on New Years Day we ate sausage and sauerkraut.
Whether is helps to eat peas or kraut for a year's good luck, I somewhat doubt,
But, I must confess with my spouse at my side, life has mostly been a breeze.
Do you reckon it has somethin' to do with eatin' 'pone and black-eyed peas!

Adam's Apple Of His Eye .

Say Lady , it's hard to believe
With this serpent tugging my sleeve
Saying " head for the chapel
 Here's a nice juicy apple
Ring her bell , it's now New Years Eve " .

So , Sweet Rib , what is your name ?
 " I'm your Eve , with no in-laws to blame .
So , well done my boy
 Lets go forth .... multiply.
But , that fig leaf's too small for your shame ".

 It's a biblical thing , not a fable
As our sons sat around our new table
 Each others bad nemesis
 Listening to Genesis
 Discovering Cain wasn't " able " .

Our Garden Of Eden was class
As it shimmered with silver and brass .
But the Lord said " lets go .
 Here's a rake and a hoe .
Clear the weeds , and that snake from the grass ".

Impossible Task for a Dreamer

Can't write about Christmas or New Years Day, Written just for Paula's
Or Easter or Kwanzaa or any other Holiday. Contest :)

I've written too much about war, about love,
and depression and sex both deserve a shove.

I guess that I could just swallow my pride,
And sneak in a write about suicide'

But Paula don't want these kinds of idolitry,
She wants us to write a poem about poetry.

How do you write about what you never said,
Or the way that words rattle around in your head?

Or how hard those words are to make a pen fashion,
Or how when they're written they seem to lose passion?

O Poem, what can I write about you?
I think until my thinker turns blue,

I come to the end of a poem about poetry,
But it won't rhyme.

Special Days

Special Days Written: by Tom Wright 4/13/2006 It seems that for almost everything We’ve set aside a special day. We recognize others for their work And sometimes for their play; There’s a day set aside for Mothers And likewise for Fathers too; I’m sure that in this hodgepodge There’s one that will cover you. There’s a day to honor our Veterans, Our police, firemen and teachers; A National Fan Day even exists For those who fill the bleachers. There is New Years, and Ash Wednesday, And Saint Valentine’s Day too. And yes, the hard working Secretary At last has been given her due. We honor a few past Presidents, Palm Sunday and beginning of Lent; Our calendar has gotten so crowded But Easter Sunday is time well spent. We’ve Christmas, and Thanksgiving And we recognize Flag Day too. Then there’s Martin Luther King Day And I suspect for a Boy Named Sue. Armed forces and Daylight Savings Each has their very own day. Labor Day and Columbus too Are remembered in this special way; We’ve Election Day, and Bosses Day, We honor the Devil on Halloween. And then there’s old St. Patrick’s For the donning of the green; There’s Boxing Day and Yom Kipper And the gobs between I’ve missed. That I classify as the minor ones I could name if you should insist. Birthdays, and Anniversaries, We treat really special too. With all these days to remember Just what is a guy to do? Even old Phil the Ground Hog His day has long been real. It’s enough to cause a country boy To shout, Hey, what’s the deal?

A Letter Too Late

A LETTER TOO LATE

NEW YEARS DAY 1915

When your there amongst others yet behind standing alone
No sign for directions only footprints across the snow,
Sometimes it’s difficult to turn a warm heart that of stone
Then to linger in memories of one’s bountiful glow.

Look to your hands need me feel me wanting to hold you tight
Remember this as you sense the urge to let your tears dwell,
I promise I won’t let go no matter how long the night
My shoulders for you to lean upon while your fears I’ll quell.

I will be with you when you think that I am gone
In that place you write about there where life’s gone wrong,
The depth of your anguish grows since the sun last shone
Yet from beyond the darkness you tell of a song,
A truce you say to end this war for men like you
To shake another’s hand like yours a hand that slew.

New Years

The first poem of the new year written while
sitting on Kuhio Street and begun when
I followed a lady of the night awhile
as she staggered down the street, then
turned off a side street on her high heeled
slippers, homeward,after a successful
night. I sat down at the bakery and hoped
that the sadness to her walk was just the full
weariness of hard work and nothing more.
It is a new year and like the Chinese icon
for tomorrow, I see a little sun pore
between the clouds of drizzle. A hopeful
dragon's breathe for the new day. We humans think
for more than what we see. Hope, addictive drink!

My New Year's Wish

A New Years wish would be for the healing of relationships, a softening of hearts hardened by hostility, and for the people of this nation to find common ground instead of being so divided. A wish for others would be to embrace those who bring the best out of you; try to volunteer more, there is so much need in this world and a few moments of your time can be life changing for all those involved. Another wish would be for all to consider looking at something which we know little about and pursue that interest to become aware; learning something new is good for the mind. Lastly, if you can run, run; if you can walk then walk, do something to be alive.

What's Up Santa Claus

So what's up? Santa Claus!
Are your reindeer in gear?
Are you ready to kick off the holiday season?
I hear you only come once a year.
And that's down the chimney.
Ho! Ho! Ho!
I hear you threw out them ole rubbers.
Them ole galoshers, must of been hurting your feet.
Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa Claus!
What's up?

When your reindeer fly down, and land on my rooftop.
That really thrills me!
And when them sleigh bells go, ring-a-ling-a-ling..
That really brightens up my Christmas.
So what's up? Santa Claus!

Are you ready for the New Years?
I'll bet you ole Rudolf's nose is shining bright.
Right this moment.
What's next on your Christmas list?
Maybe our house?
Don't forget to turn the lights out..
Ho! Ho! Ho!
What's up? Santa Claus!

What's up?

The choices we make in life

Oh if I could go back in time.
The choices, I would change.

The going on a blind date and regretting it ones.
The just one more drink ones.
The wrong Christmas present ones.
The going over the speed ones.
The cutting in line ones.
The taking friends advice ones.
The taking of financial advice ones.
The spur of the moment decision ones.
The not taking your prescribed medication ones?
The procrastination ones.
The allowing your teenager to borrow your new car ones.
The lending money ones.
The overpaying for anything ones.
The last minute decision ones.
The volunteering to change the babies diaper ones.
The not going to the Dr. ones.
The new years resolution ones.
The buying pizza from the store, and not ordering from the pizzeria ones.
The help bathing the cat ones.
The buying a scoop of ice cream, when it's 104 outside. Melting away ones.
The not trying on a pair of shoes before buying ones.
The adding of too much salt to your dinner ones.
The not comparing prices from the local gas stations. and paying too much ones..

Truth be told it was me that
 made all these choices.

Ring In The New Years

Ring in the New Years.
Ring out the old.
Keep all those dreams and wishes.
Keep heart and soul.
Never try to break a promise.
Never let me go.
Wear all those fancy dresses.
Call me on the phone.
And if you ever need me.
Just let me know...

Ring in the New Years.
Ring out the old.
Forget all those times of trouble.
So the story's told.
Never try to tell me bad lies.
Never make me cry.
Wear all those fancy outfits.
Call me on the phone.
And if you ever need me.
Just let me know..

Ring in the New Years.
Ring out the old.
Keep all those dreams and wishes.
Keep heart and soul...
