Notes About The Poem

Rivers

Rivers

There's a river of emotion
that flows into the sea.
And a river of devotion
that's pouring out of me.

Like sunshine breaking through the clouds
in the middle of a storm.
I'm coming, yes I'm coming.
In my love I'll keep you warm.

Like food is to a starving man
who's not getting any younger.
I'll fill you up and give you hope
and drive away your hunger.

Like a tiny boat that's lost at sea
no help for them in sight.
I'll reach for you I'll reach right through
the darkest lonely night.

Like a singer on an empty stage
the crowd has come and gone.
I'm standing still, I always will
and I will cheer you on.

Though multitudes might gather
and shout and curse your name.
It is I whose love won't die
I'll love you just the same.
