Best Mention Poems
On entering this contest I have to admit
The fame it will bring me when I push "submit"
Is all that I'm after - my name in bright lights
The kind of attention I earned with my writes.
I used to get noticed for walking in late
To school, then to jobs, and even for dates
My family picked up on my one loud defect
And thought they could fix me - no disrespect.
They told me that dinner would be served at five
When seven was really the time to arrive
Two hours they gave me to help cure the curse
But of course I found out and the problem got worse.
Right now I'm supposed to be cleaning my room
Instead, I am writing, ignoring the broom
My shrink says that tardiness is a cry for attention
I'll clean my room later for an honorable mention.
Come sit with me my love
I’ve longed for you today
I see you my sweetness you’re tired
Let me give you rest
This world can beat you down
Leave you worn
afraid
questioning
It’s supposed to my love
Because sometimes you wait until
You are tired, worn, afraid
And full of questions
Before you come
I love you
I love you
I love you
With a deep unquenchable love
If you only knew how precious you are to me
If you only realized how I watch you
Going day to day,
Trying so hard to keep up
I smile at your strength and determination
But my love in your weakness I will give you strength
Beyond your imagination
I love you
I love you
I love you
Just the way you are
NOT
Bigger
Not stronger
Not thinner
Not more gentle
Not more intelligent
Not happier
Not more beautiful
Not more pleasant
You are my child
You can never delve too deeply into sin or
walk far enough away from me to change that
If you being sinful desire to protect, and cherish and love your children
How much more do I
signed, your Heavenly Father
Tell me
Have you ever had a dream
A dream where your own blood fell upon blue roses
And you fell through the ground as petals floated on the wind
Tangling in your hair
Red and blue rotting jewels
The thick smell of old blood at the bottom of your own well
A dream where your heart felt the impact before the rest of you
And stopped for just a moment
Cold in your chest with the realization of death
And woke up
And then you cried
It didn’t change your life or the way you acted
It did not make you stop your closed door ritual
Or throw your kit away
It scared you so bad, and yet
You never told another soul about your dream
Or what lies just beneath you tattered sleeves and ragged jeans
You want and do not want to be saved, for someone to know
Tell me
Have you ever lived a nightmare
You didn’t know how to escape?

When just a child the poet's mom said "Son
Throughout your life beware the sin of pride
Remember this when every day is done
What counts the most is who you are inside"
At first he thought his mother's words unfair
For recognition surely has its place
In time he witnessed prideful thoughts can flare
When undue adulation supplants grace
The poet took to heart his mother's words
Too many accolades can turn your head
Vainglory flits away on wings of birds
What's left is mostly emptiness and dread
Life immersed in modest exhibition
Satisfied with honorable mention
Honorable mention, a clever invention
To stifle "not good enough"s blow
An ego, conceited, though truly defeated
"So I am the champion?!" NO
It is never one’s intention
Earning “honorable mention”
When you’re entered in a contest or a race.
Yes, you’ve gotten some attention
So that listing, by extension,
Means approval that you really should embrace.
Still, it’s not exactly winning
And it will not leave you grinning
For it feels more like a pat upon the head,
‘Cause you know at the beginning
All your hopes were proudly pinning
On that very first or second place instead.
Since most judgment is subjective
You must know that one’s perspective
May not match or be divergent from your own,
So it’s best to be reflective
Which is rather more effective
Than reacting like you’ve just been tossed a bone.

Thinking of You Lyrics By Speaks Volumes
Green girl
Green girl
She gathers leaves on a blue and green night
Her emerald eyes make me ignite
Dream catchers gather on her wall
She makes stars none shall fall
Green girl
Green girl
Light candles, red hair reminds me of autumn
Fire red forest she will come
Dream catchers gather on her wall
She makes stars none shall fall
Green girl
Green girl
Change like the seasons
For unknown reasons
Nothing left to give
Baby I would relive
Green girl
Green girl
Burning fire freezing air;
Heart’s desire feels impaired--
Nothing in this world is fair,
Burning fire freezing air.
Clip the crop with the sickle,
People fake; people fickle.
Greet the day and morning dew
With a smile not made for you.
Circumcise the newborn child,
Wonder why he grows up wild.
Send a hero straight to hell,
Say goodbye and wish him well.
Burning fire freezing air;
Heart’s desire feels impaired--
Nothing in this world is fair,
Burning fire freezing air.
I’m Held accustomed to believe
My heart is tattooed on my sleeve,
The haven of my holy dreams,
Is like a dying dove it seems.
Rest assured my rent is paid
On the ground where I’ll be laid.
Legend told of living art--
Rest in peace my beating heart.
Burning fire freezing air:
Heart’s desire feels impaired--
Nothing in this world is fair,
Burning fire freezing air.
so i am not perfect you tell me
and i'm not concluded in your future
but i got this machine i made for us
that can throw time and us further
so give me a chance because you never did
your lips speak to me in words to attract me
i can't so ever help myself from not acting so stupid
so rude and so distant yet so kind and so lovely
your smile is like the moon curved ninety degrees
your eyes are like the size of a moon i intertwine
but your voice yells to me like the morning sun
but out of all is that this isn't mine
i cannot call it love to you yet my love
but i promise to you my darling i won't surrender
you may not consider us or a chance
but my love for you will last on forever
AND from the bell tower
of my lonely brain
i have seen life down
(as) little heads
with stalk-like legs
whose long shadows
walk along these days
they are odd ones
and when i meet heaven
i will embrace all the
grace and all your
generous kindness
and love, too.
that i work
a goodness quicki
know this
and her name is a
kindness too sweet
to mention
and of illusions
which many have i
and of passion like
anyone who has never
vacationed here
i go through a million
times around the world
just the same.

My solicitor forgot to mention
What I told him to mention
Before my sentencing
And, I forgot to mention
During the sentencing
To mention
What I mentioned
Before the sentencing
What was my intention
To be mentioned
That he forgot to mention
So, now I have a long sentence
And I mean in my sentence
Not in this sentence
Due to my solicitor
Forgetting to mention
What I told him to mention
And only mentioned
After the sentence
That he forgot to mention
During the sentence
What I told him to mention
All alone in the hot sticky dark of the night,
When the howling wind wails its soft screams in starlight
And as creeping cross moons is the witches delight,
Still, and quietly weeping finds me in this fight
No woman or man, crazy sober or worse,
fearful even one touch, one sweet moment can curse
All but purest most innocent dreams and their cast
till at dawns first soft light send these demons to past
Still in morning's sweet hopeful refreshing first light
Rid my mind heart my soul of the cosmic night fright
And with sweeping speed stabs, piercing hot like a brand,
Darkest most terrible dreams of late creatures will stand
