While Ma was away, Pa lost Tweety
while pet-sittin’ for his friend Petey.
Then at dinnertime, Ma
said, “I’m so sorry, Pa,
but this bird I found ain’t very meaty!”
Another time, it was a frickin’
frog he lost. While pa was lickin’
his chops over dinner,
Ma beamed, “What a winner!
That frog I found tastes just like chickin.”
Another time “Hillbilly Jake”
Asked Pa to please watch his pet snake.
Ma was out of the loop;
saw that snake and made soup.
It was more than her husband could take. . .
Pa hollered out, “What’s wrong with you?
Every pet I sit ends up as stew!”
“Keep your eye on them critters,
or they’ll end up as fritters.
I’m not here,” Ma said, “runnin’ no zoo.”

One Halloween, darkness was descending.
I saw a graveyard, and then walking fast,
I felt the gloom of something bad impending.
The tombstones’ silhouettes that I walked past
were creepy! I decided then to run.
But in the dark, I failed to see a hole,
and when I fell, my great dread had begun.
Terror like I’d never known filled my soul,
for I had landed in an open grave.
I scrambled to get out, but felt the touch
of something living! Being not so brave,
I hollered like a baby – scared so much
I ran like the devil was chasing me.
From who or what – I wonder – did I flee?

Sonnet
You were so tired
You couldn’t wait to go lay down
Mom was standing in the kitchen
I was outside locking things up
As you went through the back door
You hollered, See you soon
Moments later the air began to fill with Dread
Getting thicker with each second of Mom's screams
By the time I got to your side
You laid unmoving, straight as board in your bed
I could hardly bear seeing you that way
As your Grandson dialed 911
My vision blurred and the world disappeared
All I could see and hear were you
Twenty three Chest compression's, Six breaths later
You opened your eyes and looked into mine
I could hardly bear seeing you so helpless
As I held you in my arms
Mom and others began to Pray
I felt each word spoken go through me to you
Flowing through your nephew's Hand that laid upon my shoulder
I couldn’t help but to hold my breath
And wrap myself around you even tighter than before
I could hardly bear seeing you struggle
No one had to tell us how bad you were
To life-flight you to St. Jose’s was the only chance you had
I tried to climbed in with you, but they wouldn’t let me
I knew how terrified of heights you were
As they closed those doors I hollered... See you there
See you there Daddy, I’ll see you there
There were lines and tubes and doctors everywhere
I stayed up for day’s right beside you in a chair
Mom sat across from me and held your hand
The others circled around us in your room
We could hardly bear seeing you that way Daddy
Alyssa sang "Jesus Loves Me" for you in your little Church
There must have been over a mile of cars parked
Family and Friends coming to say Goodbye
You'd think after almost 3 years it wouldn't make me cry
It’s almost like you must’ve known
The night you spoke those words to me
That you’d be heading up to Heaven soon
Not to take a nap
When you closed that door and hollered... See you soon
We'll meet again at those Pearly Gates, Daddy
You have our word..
We'll see you there.. We'll see you there

I love Langston Hughes. I've written about him before. I've written about the Dream Keeper. I love the theme of dreams. You should read his poem, Dreams. However, today, this poem is speaking to my heart. Life is fine...Sometimes we are beset by problems that seem to do us in. Broken hearts...unfulfilled dreams...deceptive people...It's hard. I've lately become very disillusioned with certain people. Saying one thing....and meaning another. Twisting truths. Sometimes I want to give up...BUT LIFE IS FINE!!! ;)
Enjoy this!! You'll thank me later!
Hugs
Langston Hughes, 1902 - 1967

I went down to the river,
I set down on the bank.
I tried to think but couldn’t,
So I jumped in and sank.
I came up once and hollered!
I came up twice and cried!
If that water hadn’t a-been so cold
I might’ve sunk and died.
But it was Cold in that water! It was cold!
I took the elevator
Sixteen floors above the ground.
I thought about my baby
And thought I would jump down.
I stood there and I hollered!
I stood there and I cried!
If it hadn’t a-been so high
I might’ve jumped and died.
But it was High up there! It was high!
So since I’m still here livin’,
I guess I will live on.
I could’ve died for love—
But for livin’ I was born
Though you may hear me holler,
And you may see me cry—
I’ll be dogged, sweet baby,
If you gonna see me die.
Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!

Limerick
Deep in the meadow, where deer run wild in the open,
Papa bear was waking his two cubs from their sheltered den.
"Go out and play Cailyn and Jess, go discover something new,
and always remember you take care of me and I take care of you"
Jess went running as fast as can be leaving her little sister behind.
She wanted to run to the river to see what fishes she could find.
"wait up wait up" Cailyn shouted and hollered at her sisters back.
She followed slowly and carefully inside her sisters foot track.
Jess shouted back "Sis why can't you just let me be.
I don't need you right now and you don't need me"
This made little bear Cailyn so very sad, she ran and hid
Crying and crying from what her sister cub just did
Off in the distance she could here Jess scream
" Cailyn, Cailyn, come help. I'm stuck in the stream"
Cailyn went running as fast as her little legs would go
Having to help her sister, the only friend she did ever know
She just got there in time as Jess was about to fall
Reaching Cailyn helped her out, whew what a close call
The two dirty cubs went home to be with their dad
They fell a sleep in the then den, both of them glad
Papa bear's advice these two little bitty bear cubs was so true
"Always remember you take care of me and I take care of you."

An old gal applied to join Mensa
Gee she couldn’t be any denser
She went in the wrong door
On the thirty third floor
And there she enrolled as a fencer
When attending her first fencing class
A man scored a hit on her huge ass
She screamed out so loud
It drew quite a crowd
She cannot abide failure – its crass!
WRITTEN BY JAN ALLISON
She hollered and screamed for a medic
I swear it was worse than a dead duck
one without any wings
oh the horror she sings
she's much more than dense she's pathetic
WRITTEN BY TIM SMITH
She swore that she really could spell
And in math she did surely excel
But once she felt pain
All she did was complain
And whined as her sore butt did swell.
WRITTEN BY CHRIS GREEN
That old gal then became a method actor
but one thing soon became a huge factor
she forgot all her lines
her mentality declines
now she sputters like a John Deere tractor
WRITTEN BY LIN LANE
Her butt was so sore she bought leeches
Gently placing them in her breeches
To suck out the bruise
We could hear her oooh's
I felt sorry for the poor creatures
Her butt was so big like a whale
all that was missing was it's tail
so they stuck a flag up her ****
called it the new Khyber pass
she went a whiter shade of pale.
WRITTEN BY SEREN ROBERTS
"Am I smart?" is what she kept asking
In glory she hoped to be basking.
Suddenly she farted.
The whole room departed.
Now finding fresh air is their tasking.
WRITTEN BY DALE GREGORY COZART
She sat for the test with all smiles
Filled out the forms and the files
But she spelled her name wrong
Became twisted of tongue
And was thrown to the crocodiles.

Seems the old gal was a talented tart
Clearing the room with but one single fart
Wiping their eyes
All those wise guys
Soundly applauded her flatulent art

After their work was done
Santa and Frosty wanted some fun
Off to town they did go
To take in a Disney Show
Candy, popcorn, and many frosty drinks
They did partake
At intermission they need a bathroom break
Santa stood in horror and fright
As he watch and hollered a warning on that night
Where Frosty hands had been there was only a stub
Because under the dryer his hand, he tried to rub
Now they need it to snow some more
To replace the parts of Frosty left on the floor

Heavenly bliss
Shawn and Shauna fell deeply in love
And were on their way to be wed
When a car, on that day, took their lives straight away
As both of their bodies, lie dead
But their spirits were both drawn to heaven
As they stood, in front of the gates
Saint Peter was there, at the top of the stairs
When Shawn hollered loudly “Just Wait"
Now Peter looked puzzled, at Shawn
And said "This is no time to tarry "
Shawn spoke again, and refused to go in
Without being properly married
Saint Peter replied very softly
"We don't do that kind of thing here
But if you're willing to wait,
“I’ll see if I can, get it cleared”
Three months went by, while they waited
Saint Peter, show up with a Priest
"I know it was slow, But I want you to know
You’ll be married Forever at least"
As the wedding was getting started
Shawn asked a question, with doubt
What happens here in heaven
“If this marriage just doesn’t work out”
A silent filled up the heavens
Saint Peter, was shaking his head
And once he regained his composure
This is what Saint Peter said
“It took Three Months to find a Priest
In this Heavenly Foyer
How long do you think, I’ll take for me
To Find You a Lawyer up Here ?”

U-umph, Oof-fa ha!.... There, comfy now?
Hey, would you pick up your tush,
reach in here and pick up your wife's locket?
It's down here under my cush,
and please get that screw driver outa your pocket?
That's good for me, yes much better.
Is it good for you too?
Yes, now go ahead and read your letter.
Hey, you remember when you and your wife,
saved me at that Auction in Aspen?
Talk about stress and strife !
I sure was a mess back then.
One last chance,
and I was headed for the rubbish bin.
The Auctioneer grabbed my arm,
And hollered out, "who'll bid it at a sixty?"
I remember being on stage watching you,
then it was "fifty five or bidit ata fifty -now fifty",
You didn't bid ; ..I thought I was through.
No one interested and he was droppin' fast!
"Biddit ata fortyforty thirtyfi-five bidit atta thirty two!"
"Bidda wudda gimme good chair, just alil bit dirty"
I was so nervous ; you just stared at your shoe!
"Lookin big bidder cudda cudda bidder thirty!"
Biddit abub bidja bidja bud, gimme gimme bouta fifteen on "er
well right then I Frayed My Hem! And thought I was a Goner!
"Wudja wudja cudda cudja gimme gimme biddit at about ten?"
That's when you looked up high and I saw the gleam in your eye.
I shifted my skirting, straightened my back and looked real bold,
You caught his eye, nodded your head and he hollered "SOLD!"
Well I rocked back easy and you went in to pay the man,
loaded me up and brought me home in your old van.
Y'all cleaned me up and gave me a nice shampoo,
and set me just so in your cozy library den.
You know..I'm really comfortable with you two.
I Have been since that auction in Aspen.
Hey! You dropped some popcorn in my... Oh ..never mind..,
Ahh..the memories..it's all good..it's all just FINE.

Free verse
One step I go back, and
I see you holding my hands...
With a smile, walking down the lanes.
Yesterday I acquainted me in you
When your hands grabbed mine in your fears
With such reliance, allaying down the pains.
And Today when I stood still
I saw myself lost in despair
When my hands sorely waved you goodbye.
Another step I go back, and
I see you resting on my shoulder
With an ease, breathing out all your whimseys.
Yesterday I held myself in you
When you hugged me in your tenderness
With such peace, grieving away all the hearsays.
And Today when I fastened myself
I felt I betrayed your trust
When my arms direly opened to free your life.
Further I stepped to go back, and
I see you lying up on me abreast
With an intimacy, desiring all your fondness.
Yesterday I mellowed my soul in yours'
When you lusted me in your reverences
With such warmth, melting down all the iciness.
And Today when I lie down
I realized I burnt my essence
When my deity hollered out to coffined my soul.
Yet I wanted to go back, and
I see my shadow fading out slowly under the daylight
With such isolation, deafing all those mirthful moments.
Yesterday I was in a state of solitude
Till I acquainted with your heart and soul
With such reliance, peace and warmth, gratifying all forbearance.
And Today I am back, where I was
I raged as it was hard to believe
When my heart panicked to say you GOOD-BYE.

Free verse
There once was a girl,
Who's name I can't tell.
To spare her the pain,
I'll just call her Belle.
Belle was a beauty
And all the beasts could see,
She was everything in a girlfriend
That they wanted theirs to be.
Belle was so trusting,
Because she was never treated wrong,
But little did she know that
Her innocence wouldn't last long.
She had two friends,
Sasha and Trevor,
And a boyfriend that she thought
She'd love forever.
Her boyfriend, Sam,
And Trevor were friends.
So this fearsome foursome
Had fun to no end.
The youngest of the four
But the smartest, she thought.
But what a friend was
Was not what she was taught.
Trevor and Belle
Would hang out all day.
She would try to be like him
In her own boyish way.
You see, the Trevor I speak of
Was King of the Beasts
And everything he wanted
Was laid at his feet.
And, although curious,
Belle stayed true to Sam
And that made Trevor feel
That he was less of a man.
One day, in a summer
Belle told me something
I needed to know.
She told me what happened
The day that she ran.
The day that will forever
Be burned in the sand.
She told me what happened
When she looked over her shoulder
And saw him walking towards her
As the room grew colder.
She told me her tears
Were no match to his power.
She told me what made this beast
A coward.
She told me she screamed
And hollered and yelled
But her cries were soon muffled
By his lips, dry and pale.
She told me how she felt
The day that she was bruised.
Never in her life
Had she felt so used!
I asked her why she didn't fight
Or get tough like she does on the field.
She just said I'd never know the
Weakness that I would feel.
I couldn't help but to cry for her
As she blamed herself.
Belle had always wanted to be
The beauty on everyone's shelf.
"But not like that," she said to me,
"Not with one of my friends."
She let a tear roll down her face
As she spoke of her life's end.
Some may ask why'd she tell me;
"What made her come to you?"
I simply look at them and say,
"You don't know Belle like I do."
I know this story in great detail
And if you look real close you'll see
The tear I shed while writing this
Because...Belle is me.

Narrative
Twas the night before Christmas
Dressed in my red Santa pajamas.
Tap, Tap, Tap, and a whispered strain;
Santa knocked at my windowpane.
Dressed in a red velvet hat and suit,
Lined in white fur, a black belt and boots.
His hair, so white I had to stare;
His breath puffing white in the chilly air.
"Sorry, but you've no chimney, that's plain
To see, and I know this is insane."
"Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Hollered as we hung in the air."
"Santa, use your big magic charm bags
To deliver the gifts with name tags."
"It takes time to deliver gifts from dusk to dawn.
I emerged in a parachute to land on the lawn."
I said, "That's okay, Santa, I'm totally pleased
I'll give you a squeeze, I'm not displeased."
"I thought delivering you had different shifts,
I was wondering how I'd get my gifts."

We, like birds,
Soared and dove and hollered
In the gentle air of a midsummers twilight
Before the watchful eyes
Of a loving and forever Yes.
Your exclamatory remarks
Don’t getcha too far,
Do they boy? (not anymore at least.)
This night was meant for lovers
And builders
Of the cloudy dreams
That float across the hole-punched sky.
And the wind dances upon my nose
As if to say we were meant to be.

New city street
With the wink of an eye
and a shuffle of feet
We wandered about
down a new city street
Where vendors wore blue
with a tangerine sash
In hopes to look good
with no chance it would clash
Their carts were adorned
with ribbons and beads
And funny designs
made of cantaloupe seeds
They hollered and bellowed
and beckoned us near
And when we did stop,
they let out a loud cheer
They offered us products
like peanuts with cheese
And daffodil handkerchiefs
in case we sneeze
Belts made of feathers
with buckles in red
And weird little cones
you could wear on your head
We bid and we haggled
but always were nice
To get a good deal
and a much better price
The street lined with houses,
most two stories high
With windows like shamrocks
reflecting the sky
The balconies all featured
ribbons and bows
That hung from the railings
such colorful throws
Where women were calling
to neighbors across
For clothes pins and hampers
they hoped they would toss
They spoke in a language
so funny to hear
For what they were saying
was not always clear
The men were all mending
and tending the place
Their hats cockled sideways,
a grin on their face
The knees of their jeans
were all covered in patches
While they polished the brass
on the handles and latches
It seems they were singing
an old fashioned song
We tried to join in
as we walked right along
We laughed and we giggled
so much fun was had
But we had to leave
and that made us both sad
So we promised each other
that we both would meet
Again very soon
on this new city street
