Best Folk Lore Poems
In July, the monsoon rains pound our land.
After several days of torrential downpour,
When the rain withdrew for an interim,
With the afternoon turning suddenly sunny,
Being shut in the house for days,
I couldn’t control my urge to roam.
Exactly a day before, I had bought a white T- shirt
I twisted it and tied it here and there
Dipped it in rainbow colors,
With shades of blue predominating.
Though it was my first amateur attempt,
Was proud of the outcome.
A swirl of blue-
A splash of red and crimson-
In strange circular patterns,
No two looking alike, each quite unique.
After drying it in the sun for some time,
I folded it and kept it aside.
I was eager to put it on while going out.
When wearing it, my mother said-
“In your tie and dye T-Shirt
You look a peacock in strut feathers”
Proudly wearing my casuals,
I went out on my scooter.
Street children admiringly looked at me.
Smart l was in a splash of colors!
How quick was the change of weather,
Soon rain began pouring down.
It soaked me through and through.
When I reached home,
I was like the cunning Fox of the folk lore
That got dipped in a pail of blue…!
No one was there to hail me King
I withdrew to the bathroom,
To wash myself clean!
Past portraits of ancestral knowing
keep our knowing alive through folk lore,
traditional lore is still showing,
habits showing convention before.
Observance comes before each pathway,
bygone pathway shows how we live now,
what manifests now is our new day,
where each day displays what fates allow.
Customs allow us our connection,
our connection to past is esteemed,
ancestors esteemed by protection,
the protection of what we have dreamed.
We achieve what we dreamed at long last
made to last through the rites of our past.
Most local folk lore is intended to unnerve but
I think there's validity to the Haunted horse shoe curve.
The building of our nations rails took a terrible toll
on the Irish, the Chinese, and many other souls..
This was once a very thriving railroad town,
now the population dwindles yet some ghosts
still stick around..
Three years ago I bought my condo in a bit of haste.
I never asked my realtor for a ghost reading of the place..
It's a building designed for seniors so obviously some passed on.
Apparently there's one who is not completely gone,
it's small like a child, might be a leprechaun?
This is factual and not some kind of joke,
in our non-smoking building there's a faint cigar smoke.
Drawers and doors will open where there's no other folks.
Some times out of the corner of one eye, a shorter fleeting
person quickly passes by..
Similar experiences have been reported from coast to coast but are
they actually signs of a visiting ghost?
Initially I read up on ghosts and did a bit of learning,
promptly I bought some sage and had my first burning..
Now I just play tambourines and ring a loud bells to chase
away any stuck energy that dwells.
Living with this ghost has not been a big deal.
Some times I just interrupt it's energy field..
If per chance I should get stuck before I'm safe and heavenly.
I pray that some one out there will do the same for me..
Loving Grandparents
I've seen more faces of parental love
As a child I heard folk lore from grandma
Often I lay calm in her elbow's cove
Night pressed her feet swollen with oedema
And in the noon we would hide in a room
With a binoculars to watch the birds
Collecting twigs for nesting babes in womb
Grandma was fun and all requests were heard
Grandpa moved around with his wailking stick
We took care of him on his pious bed
Didn't know he was dying thought him sick
In the middle of night goodbye he said
We hugged and cried at our world that collapsed.
New homes we were flown to, our ties just snapped

~~~~` from the ocean , he comes .... ~~~~
Out of the waves the seal has come
through froth and foamy seas
to shed his skin and walk on land,
his passions to appease.
To find a maiden of his own
to woo and gently please
and once her heart is given him
he'll head back to the seas.
The lovely man who turns the heads
of love lorn innocents,
he is the Selkie of folk lore,
who leaves, but not repents.
The Selkie comes to woo the heart,
his passions to appease,
then leaves the maid in tears, bereft,
and heads back to the seas.
Out of the waves the Selkie comes,
sheds fur to walk as man.
He plays around with human hearts,
his temporary plan.
Out of the sea a Selkie walks.
Do not fall 'neath his spell
for he will not remain on land.
It's in the sea he'll dwell.
Positive mind – Zamreen Zarook
Minds are of various type,
Most are solely stereotype,
Positive once are always phenotype,
But being neutral also not a prototype.
Mind become as the main role player,
It is our biggest annoyer,
No doubt, it’s our great betrayer,
Understanding this makes an extra ordinary player.
Wrong assumptions inculcate due to this sight,
People don't know its height and weight,
Misunderstandings and crushes are as light,
Our negative eye was our sky light.
A boy goes to wine store,
Controlling the mind out of deplore,
Make our mind say “He went for a cash change” and it was his core,
It’s our time to change our folk lore.
Folk lore tells us that
Characteristically
Lycanthropy is
To be wolf like, and
To assume the magical
Ability to change
The Murder
As I went into next door,
saw a fellow just dead,
with the blazing eyes expressing
surprise and hatred.
For the night was still young,
and the sky lucid as never before.
I hot out of that placid cell,
which for a moment fell like hell.
With the flow of air,'
the utterments rose, every head
young or old, man or woman
got hold of that unheavenly event.
Soon arrived the men of justice,
Performing the folk lore of examining and judging,
searching the whereabouts of "scene of crime",
guarding the people from people themselves.
Just then a guy came cryin' and sobbin'
"Oh my dearest what has been done" said him at once.
Looked as if he was close to the dead one,
and yes, he was husband I heard from some.
Till dawn everyone were at thier place,
chattin' 'bout the whole night craze,
While the kin of dead sees her for last,
I stood right there keeping mourn.
And still thinking the same from last night,
"Why had I done it?"
I offer my fiddle for your pleasures
My music will certainly be a treasure
Come and dance to the lands folk lore
The beat locks a partner you will adore.
One two three, one two three tap, tap, tap
A step here and a step there is a real rap
The country fiddler’s bow plays forever joy
A unique sound concerts the floor like a toy.
One by one the stage filled with artists dancing
My fiddle is a smashing hit for this one evening
When the song and prance at last came to an end,
The listeners asked for an encore of the jazzy trend.
Around the twelfth hour, I played the final tone
A young man bowed adieu and left me all alone
How sad to see such a superb evening exist in
I lay my instrument down and into a secure bin.
When I settled to go, an admirer smiled at me.
He passed me a rose and a kiss for all to see
Thank you for the beautiful melodies tonight
The crowd and I will leave feeling alright.
Your welcome, I promise to come before long.
When I see the floor full of dancers akin to song,
My heart cries to play more tunes for all to hear.
Now I say goodbye and leave seeing no tears.
Jump
rope
verses-
skipping down
the gnerations.
Here by this lake
Cotton clouds quest,
Colours now take
A festive zest.
Misty moods float
As kin and kind
Gather to gloat
Fond peace of mind.
On earthly grounds
Mid-autumn comes,
Moon glow floods round
As laughter sums.
Rapture and feast
Grand harvest reaps,
Love floods the gist
Of feelings deep.
Culture floods more
To anchor will,
Mid-autumn shores
As moon glow thrills.
Old folk lore shows
An esteemed way,
Hearts seem to know
How purpose pays.
Moon cakes and food
Move fond delight,
Meet gracious good
With warm hearts bright.
Watch children play
Prized lanterns here,
Old chorus sways
Such happy cheer.
Bright sparkles show
A profound touch,
Love as we know
Blooms joy so much.
Falling leaves tell
Of changing times,
Mid-autumn gels
Such lovely chimes.
Moonlit lake bright
Enchants that heart,
A spellbound night
Love arrows dart.
Mystic moods glow
In tale and myth,
Autumn now shows
The moon gate drift.
Now here we sit
With hearts at ease,
Share pun and wit
Sip teacup bliss.
The Gargoyle
The Gargoyle, a spooky character that sits around castle walls
said to be in league with the Devil, a nondescript creature with
wings, tail and horns, which can be traced back in time to the
medieval period, were people were often afraid of their own shadow
these Daemon-like apparitions were often worshipped by
Devil worshippers who often made human sacrifices to appease
these Demons; over the years these cults have been slowly
eradicated by people who stood for law and order in the land
who wanted to stop this barbaric practice.
The Gargoyle eventually disappeared into folk-lore history.
What does it mean to me
New Jersey
It means smell and warmth
iI……. oops wrong sort of Jersey
Here we go start again …….
Was the home of the Lenape Indians
Till the Dutch and Swedes came their way
Followed by the British who named
It after a channel island off the UK
Was the home of many a battle
Including the American revolutionary war
Who tried to oust the British rabble
Not such an easy chore
New Jersey has many counties
21 was the latest score
Morris County was indeed a pleasant one
Rich in tradition and folk lore
THEN
Theirs Atlantic and Bergen, Burlington too
Camden, Cape May, Cumberland to name but a few
Essex, Gloucester and Hudson come next in line
Hunterdon, Mercer and Middlesex are doing just fine
Monmouth, Morris and Ocean is that enough
Pacific, Salem and Somerset I am now out of puff
Sussex, Union and Warren …….That is New Jersey
An
unplanned
after-thought-
oftimes spoilt
child,
a
favoured
benjamin-
or somtimes ,wild
child
Green Gremlins were all the rage in nineteen seventy-four.
I am not talking about creepy fat-headed full bellied tiny beings.
I am talking about cheap cars with a V-8 and four on the floor.
Everyone had one, so common, most of us were tee-heeing.
Painted a variety of colors, and riding in them made you kind of sore.
We wore hip hugger bell-bottoms and had a hippie-like look.
This was in ’74, and believe it or not, this is no folk lore.
If you do not believe me, just look up a Gremlin in a picture book.
