Best Earnest Poems
Lord, help me be who you made me to be,
To be true to myself as well as to others
Help me see the value of every individual,
To live peaceably with sisters and brothers.
Lord, may I be a light to those in darkness
Shining out, a witness to your love and grace,
Not afraid to share the victories of my life
Knowing you entrusted me with this space.
Lord, help me make a difference where I am,
For I long to make your world a better place
Yet I know my influence is most felt at home
Where I learned the moral truths to embrace.
Lord, when I have accomplished all I can do
Please take me home to be forever with you.

An earnest young student of Greek
Raised his hand in class so to speak.
The professor replied
“I wouldn’t advise.
After all, you’ve been dead for a week!”
I believe I owe a lot to you.
An earnest appreciation is due.
For many years, you have been my guide.
My utmost secrets with you I could confide.
We didn't always make it, but we tried.
I will always remember the things you would do.
I swear to you, I will never forget you.
inspired by another member's poem
Failure can result from the best of trying
But without it no one would ever succeed --
With this in mind there can be no denying
Success is never fully guaranteed.
Fear of failure is never an excuse to give up
Or cause one to prematurely concede,
Consider that a glitch may be only a hiccup
Success is never fully guaranteed.
Almost everyone has the desire to achieve
To reach a goal, or, to fulfill a need –
Seeing to fruition what the mind will conceive
Success is never fully guaranteed.
Great reward comes from earnest effort
Even if it is only the planting of a seed,
It brings to the sower a world of comfort
Success is never fully guaranteed.

Earnest labour of love for reaching-out pursuits
constrained* by Christ with His grace, keeps bearing fruits…
…unmasking shallow commitment.
Sincere care midst blissful selfishness toward relief-giving
exposes hypocrisy lurking in devotion’s disguise…
…abasing flippant, skin-deep service.
Dedicated ministerial life-building endeavours
stay triumphant midst rigors so challenging…
…propelling the faithful with peace.
Joyous worship along praise-anchored gratitude
blesses heart for blissful faith performance…
…melting pride’s seething intensity.
Serene fulfillment of granted life eternal pleases the Lord
Who deserves the best that can never be faked…
…defying deceitfulness' utmost.

Earnest Ernie Van Stickle,
Sat on a mushy pub pickle.
Yeah, Ernie was hot,
He fumed as he bristled.
Now he had a wet spot.
with a big sticky tickler.
He said OH, why not,
and ordered a triple.
Then, even Earnie smiled,
when the bar keep opined,
Van, better wet, than a Thistle.
Your lips...lie
Your words...lie
Your hands...lie
Your actions...lie
The lie: I am nothing to you
Your eyes...
Your earnest eyes
Cannot...will not...lie
They speak the truth
With every look
In their depths...a message
The truth: You long with me to...lie

He died one year ago today and was laid to rest.
He was a good friend and his name was Earnest.
Earnest was one of three men that I knew who died last year.
He repaired and sold computers but cancer ended his career.
He would still be fixing and selling computers if he was alive.
Earnest tried to beat cancer but sadly, he could not survive.
His friends and family are sad because he no longer exists.
He was a great man and a friend who has been missed.
Everybody who knew him was truly blessed.
He was my friend and his name was Earnest.
[Dedicated to Earnest Martin Owens (1960-2021) who died one year ago today on July 29, 2021]
The summer hasn't really begun in Earnest
That's where I met a girl with whom I flirted
I'm such a silly
Brain got willy nilly
Pregnant she got, sadly her husband was alerted
Why doesn't anyone write me, today?
Why didn't they, yesterday?
Why won’t they, tomorrow?
Why won’t you pluck up the courage to say?
Why doesn't anyone look in my direction?
And try to peer past the layers of shades
And crane their neck until they glimpse
A piece of what lies within
Veiled behind a gossamer tapestries
And then they can be amazed
And now all else is fading fast
Now they are determined to push past
The walls, the illusions, the boundaries
Draw back the many curtains to find
Me
Why doesn't anyone dare to try it anymore?
Why are we content to pass every door
Without even glancing in its direction
Hesitating by its entrance
Considering its opening?
When did we stop being brave?
When did you stop sharing thoughts?
When did we stop bearing souls?
When did you stop sending messages?
When did you stop writing me?
But come to think of it,
Should I be asking?
Did you ever even begin?
There was a forlorn poet named Ernest
entered prized Christmas poetry contest
won necklace for the first place
took it in case, ran a race
to win the lady’s heart in lone earnest.

Here am I as a black sheep sighing anxiously
Murmuring against unfairness angrily
Questioning my situation regretfully…
Lord, I confess* my sins earnestly;
Please lift my heart to Your presence tenderly.
Here am I, with black sheep's grief, struggling against frustration
Succumbing to iniquities’ oppression
Leaning toward welcoming desperation…
Lord, I plead for Your reaching-out restoration;
Please revive my spirit midst Your mighty sanctification.
Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.

Earnest devotion
to my God duly belongs
He deserves indeed
spirit's faith* beyond my heart's
blissful infatuation.

Have you met my friend, Earnest? He doesn't come around, Often, except occasionally. But when he does show up, he usually brings his friend, Repent.
Earnest is a good friend. In times of trouble, that's when you will see him most, Often. Repent is always serious... but his company is good for the soul. These are good friends, you should get to know.

P.S. Read this to a friend, and ask: "can you name the three friends"? They will likely say, "Earnest, Repent", and then say: "who is the third." To which you will respond, "Often." Watch their reaction.
