Best Doing Poems
The ruffle of fleece at her neck
makes her feel manufactured, not born—
brushstrokes of windswept wool,
all soft edges and curves
the color of old milk.
Her lips were no artist's accident,
nor the smirk as she lurks
in the corner more knowing
than any ewe usually dares.
Coy smile, a pearled necklace
of fur and her hind-end musk—
drew the brown ram sniffing
while a dirt-faced ex-love nearby
chews through the cud to find
whatever’s left of her.
Closer to the cliff than either,
she teeters, grazing weeds
like the dutiful daughter of lamb stew,
like she doesn’t know the cost
of this life: skin blistered by sun,
meat slow roasted to melt
on the tongue, bones cracked
for their marrow, dreams curdled
and spun into the itchy arms
of some strayed-from-the-flock husband,
all too eager to forget
the warmth of her body.
But Clover knows better.
Knows that sheep go one of two ways—
a fireside comfort or the fire itself.
Knows the herd will go
where they are led,
always too late to see
the teeth of the cliff.
She stands alone,
the day's last shadows
pooling at her feet
masticating through daisies
and regrets. And then she leaps
toward the yellowing horizon
gathering salt-wind in her wool
along with the cliff-kissed breeze
of freedom that promises nothing
but the opposite direction.
Dedicated to one of my favorite actors, Morgan Freeman
“Driving Miss Daisy” was driving him crazy
So old Morgan Freeman assumed a new role
It proved much more fun next to Jack Nicholson
“Bucket List” jumping through an atmosphere cool
With Brad Pitt, a rookie wed to a cookie,
The “Seven” most deadly sins unfolded
But as “Robin Hood’s” friend, the laughs didn’t end
And the “Spider” never bothered him a tad
Yes, this Oscar winner proved he’s no sinner
Playing Nelson Mandela in “Invictus”
What more can I say than how I dread the day
When the silver screen is Morgan Freemanless
For each aging actor time’s soon a factor
We bid Newman, Fonda and Stewart farewell
For me there won’t be one more gifted than he
With such a “Deep Impact,” shoes too big to fill
* Along Came a Spider, Driving Miss Daisy, The Bucket List, Seven, Robin Hood,
Prince of Thieves (Kevin Costner version), Invictus and Deep Impact are but a few
of the many movies in which Morgan Freeman starred.

DOING GOOD
“Tired am I”,
You told me the other day my friend,
“for many good deeds have I been doing for so long
but
recognition for my contribution haven’t I received
any, why?”
Here is my reply to you, gentle friend of mine
Written with the tenderness your kind heart has come
So well to know,
Tell me:
Does the sun care to be appreciated for the affection it
Embraces the earth
Or
For the caresses its rays so abundantly dispense to
Each mountaintop?
Does the cloud request a reward for the load it carries
In its bosom
Or
For the drops of rain that so kindly bestows onto the
Arid ground?
Does the earth seek payment from the seed when into
Its soil planted
Or
For the fruits the trees so bigheartedly distribute, rebellious
Stomachs to appease?
Does the bee demand compensated to be for pollinating
The flowers
Or
For producing its divine honey that even the immortals so
Much enjoy?
Does the wind ever insist on any fee when through the
Leaves whispers
Or
For when the murmur of brooks and the melody of singing
Birds transmitting?
Shouldn’t we, my loving friend, inspired by nature’s unselfish
Examples be
And
Share our soul’s wealth, expecting nothing in return, from our
Fellow humans?
And finally
Is there anything we could ever think, nobler and holier to be, than
Lord’s will, we to be doing?

Santa’s helpers, take a break
From the toys they like to make
And just for pure fun's sake
They dance the Santa Shuffle
Rudolph with his nose so bright
Likes to dance all through the night
Dances until the morning light
Doing the Santa Shuffle
Frosty Snowman dons his hat
Often he pops in to chat
And when he is all done with that
He does the Santa Shuffle
Mrs Claus is in the pink
Gives her husband a cheeky wink
Perhaps she’s had too much to drink
She’s doing the Santa Shuffle
Santa, resting by the fire
Thinking that he might retire
Suddenly has the strange desire
To do the Santa Shuffle
So why don’t we all take this chance?
To do this festive yearly dance
Mistletoe, wine, who knows, romance
Let’s do the Santa Shuffle
Husbands, raise your hands
Keep them up if you love your wife
Keep them up if you colour your wifes hair
Okay, this is for the three of us that are left....
I did my wife a favour
As I do, because I can
I help her when I'm able
Not just because I am a man
I kill bugs when requested
I do the laundry like I should
I clean the bathroom when it's dirty
And by doing so , feel good
Every few weeks I will help her
Hide the grey that she can see
I don't volunteer to do it
But it's cheap to hire me
A salon visit is expensive
Doing hair, and waiting hours
I just slip on my latex hand wear
And I have a bag full of super powers
Yes, I help my wife get couloured
I take the time and do her hair
I also, get it on the tiles
Up the wall and on two chairs
The dog gets covered just a little
The rug, a window and the bed
But, we always buy two packets
So, there's enough to do her head
I have a jacket slightly mottled
It's got a few brown spots, some red
I don't know exactly how it happened
I even got some on our bed
Just call me Mr. Kenneth
In my jumpsuit doing hair
I get it where I think she needs it
And I spray it everywhere
She comes out looking gorgeous
She's always happy with the result
She always looks a little different
Like someone who believes in the occult
If you're a husband who likes money
Save it, colour your wife's hair
Your part only takes ten minutes
You need ten towels, one mask, one chair
It brings us both closer together
My arms look like a leopard skin
All my shirts are slightly spotted
But all those spots, make me look thin
I've got to go now and get cleaned up
The carpets ruined, so's the wood
But, she's happy and we all know that
If the wife is happy....all is good!
It's rocking an empty flowerpot perched
in a pine tree: 'RockABye Baby in the High Top,'
its contents shell shocked in this February
of zero wind chill. It's the heart's empty nest,
cold ripple of a lake that threatens to overtake,
were it not for higher ground. We've wind
from the northeast, sharp and heartless,
harbinger of storms, but I am Barrier Island,
formed by one who taught me by salt, sea-
shell, and the sting of sand, bitter winter spray
in remembered summer. Land bound,
one learns to light where something shores us.
So here am I , despite trade winds, the Skull
and Bones of picturesque pirates, failed
story tales where even the wind lies.
In the lake one small duck, sustained by
its currents paddles my direction, drawn
by intuition or design of a kindred spirit who
would sail, dive with delight, endure
the cold solitude of seagulls at evening,
seeking harbor far from their ocean.
They are white flags signaling Yes,
You will find your heaven.

Peter! Peter!
Where are you?
I am right here mom
I am coming now!
That was my mom
And she's calling me
I'm drinking a glass of milk
But I better run or she'll get mad at me
Peter! Peter!
What was that horrible noise that
I just heard coming from the kitchen
Tell me that you haven't done anything bad please.
Mom, that was my glass of milk, I just dropped it and it broke.
Well, I was just doing what you always told me to do.
You said that I am supposed to drop anything that
I am doing every time that you just...call meeee!
LOL! LOL!

I did the I DO
It's the best thing I've done
The decision to Marry
My special one
Sure some people
Think single is great
That's okay for them
I chose not to wait
Once I found her
I moved real fast
I wouldn't let
Opportunity pass
Woman of my dreams
Not just a cliche'
For me no others
I can love this way
Years have passed
Love hasn't faded
Single for Married
Will never be traded
So if you find
someone for you
if there's no question
Do the I Do
I want sombody that can see what im doing here.
From every word that goes to your eye then your ear.
What does he mean some sometimes subliminly say.
Not that it doesnt go out and over the other ear anyway.
Hey!
Your reading this right?
Do you get the message of my meaning?
Isnt it tight?
Sometimes i feel cray like right about now.
I should say somthing crazy but phrase it how?
So the other day i met Captain Crunch's Cornol.
But his cearial looks like chicken.
Chickens!
They have a mean life.
It goes like this.
Bread is fed
to the chicken that was later found dead.
They cut off his head, out came a whole lotta red.
The farmers family needed fed, but the farmer didnt have the bread.
Get it?
Enough said.
What are you doing on this planet?
Are you just walking around like a chick magnet?
Well I don't want to attract the wrong crowd
Coz that's not what I'm worried about
I'm here trying to save people from the power of hell [1]
Proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ, the true Gospel
I don't care if doesn't seem fancy to you
Coz I'd lay down my life for Him coz I know He's true
That's my vision, mission and my purpose in life
Not owning a huge place, a great job and a beautiful wife
Those things are needed but we need to keep our focus
On the One True God, Immanuel, "God with Us"
Coz all these things will one day be left behind
And then it'll be too late to realize that we were blind
Following the god of this world and the things that he gives
Instead of coming to the Lord Jesus Christ the One who forgives
Who shed His precious blood to wash away our sins
Coz we were sinful from our mother's womb
That's why He died and was placed inside a tomb
But death couldn't hold Him, He resurrected bodily after three days
And now He gives abundantly to us from His amazing grace
So come to Him no matter how sinful you are
Coz He's so close that our breath seems far
[1] It is not me who saves but the Holy Spirit who convicts a sinner and brings him to the saving knowledge of Christ
Time is too precious
To be frittered today
There are not enough hours
As the sand runs away
But I halt my obsession
With the ticks and the tocks
Or the tasks to be done
Or the hands on the clocks
That fly round so quickly
As if life slips away..
For the moments I'm with you
Are more precious, I'd say
Than the whistling train
That is time passing by
I get lost in this moment
As we sit eye to eye
So let's sit and do 'nothing'
Not a bean. Not a chore.
For your presence is precious
There's no thing I want more
Than just to be present
And enjoy every breath
For we never quite know
How much more we have left
Do the best
you can
excellently* for God…
His reward
is indeed
exceedingly great
certainly the best!
1Corinthians 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

The world is an awful place
so much going on so bad
it seems it's always been like that
looking on it's so very sad
But can nothing be done?
it's a really awful place
wherever one goes about
awful testimony of the human race
Evil is evident to triumph
what a picture this shows
of the sinfulness of sin
there's one way this goes
The real mistake is to do nothing
then there's no courage to attack
being good men is not enough
doing nothing's just so slack
It's so full of folly
to be doing not a thing
show your metal and shine
make the call so it rings!

" The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke)
