My choir director
                    is a painter
    a music stand her easel
                        the choir loft her frame
        her canvas is the air
                           we breathe in
            and synchronously exhale

Sixteen voices are her paints
                    organized by color palettes
    low ebony hues down there
                        bright primary tones over here
        complementary colors placed in between
the accompanist creates a background wash
            under her attentive ear

Following her calling with tenacity and talent
                    her hands pirouetting like ballerinas
    expressive decisive intentional
                        coaxing cohesive chorales
        conversing with the rhythm
she paints a sacred symmetry of
            sanctified synergy in sound

Premium Member The Band Director

With her hands poised and ready, she said, “I will see you at the end!”
Then like horses at the gate, the band would all jump in.
At ease directing classical, Sousa, or big band,
It was hang on to your seat, and get ready to jam!

She corrected wrong notes, intonation, and sometimes raised her voice.
Then the band would play it again, more carefully of course!
At practice she was firm, but liked to have fun.
She was quick of her wit, and rarely could be undone!

She put in many long hours behind the scenes,
Running the band like a well-oiled machine.
She loved her sister, her friends, and her dear pets.
It was a full life, and she had no regrets.

She made the music come to life on warm summer nights,
And friends would tap their feet to the melody in delight.
Keeping in line the flutes, the reeds, and the horns,
Carol Blake was the band director, a job for which she was born.

Once Tamil Promotion Director
Excised wise Japanese co-founder
Called him names like rogue thief
Set himself up as Chief
All Dravidian Tamil Editor

He posed as the Royal Ancestor
Even of the Chola* Emperor
Slave-drove workers in fief
Used savants make belief
Such the Tamil Highness Publisher

He caged talents the Money-Maker
Poised as Conference Organiser
Preyed on Buddhist belief
On Chan and Zen mischief
To lard his own family bunker

Ideas he plucked from the Other
Made as if he put up with bother
Tamils to lead as Chief
No matter what the grief
None see his pen as plagiariser

All helpers rough-rode he the Miser
Shed them shorn one after the other
Damn not this common thief
Just his penchant for Chief
For Tamil knowledge made he Server

The Director

Camera Direction:

Start high above the city.
Focus on the crowd moving below between steel and glass.
Pull in closer,..closer,..closer.
Focus in, as best you can, on one person.
Male or female no preference.
Follow them for four blocks or so.
Observe for signs of life.
If nothing, move on to new subject.

Director's note:

Be sure to have extensive film on hand for this undertaking.

Premium Member God Is My Director

God is my Director toward the glorious future
Against challenges that may build up or torture…
He strengthens my faith for Scripture-anchored venture
Till I become His perfect creature!

God is my Director toward spiritual radiance
Against achievements that may cause arrogance or defiance…
He reveals my humility’s sincere appearance
Till I show Him my submissiveness of complete reliance!

God is my Director toward fruitful service
Against slothfulness that may speak of disinterest or malice…
He assesses my labour’s diligence as His divine edifice
Till I exert my best effort with righteous practice!

God is my Director* toward holy living
Against hypocrisy that may bring selfish glorying or guilty cleaving…
He rebukes my hidden motives needing His reproving
Till I present well-doing sacrifices worthy of His approving!

Friendships, wordy scripts, cameras, microphones and venue blips. Call security, no need to be shirty, let's go again.. scene five, take thirty. Action. Cut. Time for tea. The bar is closed but coffee's free. The waiting patiently never ends. We chat we laugh. We're making friends. The brushes flash across my brow.. my shirt is steamed no creases now. As runners jog and sound men lean. I've learned my lines, we're quite a team.. with birthday Sue and sooty Dave.. the risks we take favour the brave. It's all been worth the sweat and tears, a hundred props of seventeen years. With actors, crew and faithful few. The final shots to rave review. A shout hooray and rapturous clap.
For Acting on Impulse.. it's a wrap x

The Director

The Director

By Sy Roth

The directors--

For want of a nail

They were not wanting

So many nails,

A cache of nails

To drive into their coffins

Paid in jiggers of vodka

They would slog the miles

To the pits.

Surround them,

The innocents,

Choreograph their end

A Twyla Tharp ending

Accordion accompaniment

Played to a defunct Mahler

To keep them mollified.

The nails see only vermin

In their intoxicated vision

Smell their fear

Before a lightning crackle

Marks crescendic endings.

Poor naked souls stack themselves

like cordwood

On top of yet, still-warm bodies.

Melodic line met--

Last look before the darkness enfolds

Those who will entomb them

Lamblike creatures align at the flag

They queue from right to left

A Hebraic arrangement

To a two-shot tango--

One reserved for the child held aloft

By a resigned dame who sees no exit—

Child held aloft

 Limp in naïve trust

To be followed by the second crack

Then hustled into the pit to join the others.

Swim in their own river of blood

The stagehand obeys the director’s cue.

He rolls them into the abyss

New cast assembles

Take their place at the flag

Unclaimed trash

While the director trods on their backs

To dispatch those who dared to live,

Souls forgotten

Sinners in the hands of an angry god.

Premium Member Poem Letter To My Spiritual Director

Decided to speak poetry
Words are painful
To not be hurt
Thought to be friends

Not to be in pain
Guess the revelation is not that powerful
To be terrified is understandable
Frightened too

Guess the Divine needs to convey
To transfer the truth
Certain women are having difficulty
Read their stories

Where is your compassion?
Did you not feel it too?
Higher power is you
Those women had, are having difficulties

Told the Divine not to be powerful
Mad or angry
Don’t be
The unborn are suffering inside

Women
Ladies
Mother
Can’t bear seeing her child suffering

Thought Humans needs to mirror the Divine
Ended unborn suffering
Tell Higher power the unborn are safe in heaven
The Divine wants to give women chance/choice to save themselves

Have pity on them
Population needs to hear the truth
To understand, discern, comprehend
To live harmoniously, peacefully

Calling the Divine
Hear the population
Unborn, living are suffering
Tell Higher power the truth
