Bone of Contention

A bone of contention
 can be chewed until
 nothing worth having
     is left to be won.

Contention

I drift away from myself
	Octavio Paz

Will I be there when she arrives in time?
Will I be there when my mother starts opening
Her sick eyes and says: "It is you, my boy?"

Will I be there fully of myself and fill with lies
To say at least: "I'm sorry, Ma! I came late!"

And when our body meets, and when our eyes
Try to explain every detail at each one to see
What is going on, and to comprehend what has happened
During those years, could I be able to alter them
And be wise enough to be beautiful in front of her
And give her a last devotion from a grown man?

Will I be there when my luck cannot go ahead to fight
The brave waves that have been coming up from the River
With such physical pain to tell me: “I do not want to go further anymore!"
Do I have then the time, I ask you, naive soul,
To say: "Mother I'm commanding you not love me as a son!
I'm commanding you not bless me with a forgiven kiss!
I'm commanding you, o Mother! To let me die next to the frail bosom of yours!
But will I be there on time when she arrives in tears
Although it is going to give me strength to say: "Why is this
Pain?”

It is that my real answer to judge between love and Mother's Love...
It is that my virtue to make any difference from her tenders breast.
It is that my long, long absence should be like this blind my heart is set up
And keep from you!

Even though my joy is dead, even though my privation inner
Thought is empty, and even though my arrival has been denied,
And even though my way still far away...! Anyhow will I be there, you, God, tell me,
If I can trust her silence before dawn and go to that high and motionless place,
Kneel down there, and kiss at least her last breath...!

Will you let me at least to do just that...?

Trump Big Bone of Contention

Trump Big Bone of Contention

Trump was big bone of contention;
Smart Aleck at political convention;
Much  disdain;
Constant pain;
In ranks raised so much dissension.

my contention...

plain words... I'm guilty
if you need a dictionary
to define words in a poem
that your reading
does not make you a numpty
most likely grumpy...
anhydrous, that's how they make me feel...
now I'm ready for some libation...
sorry for my facetiousness
simple poetry for me can be the best
that's not to say I don't like something deep
its the inference to simple that makes me
want to we weep...

I'd like to step back in time a bit
And mention the dinosaur.
He lived two hundred million years
And then was seen no more.
The dino's demise is a mystery
That's hashed and often rehashed here.
One fav'rite hypothesis seems to be
That a giant asteroid crashed here.
Argued by clerics, and scientists,
And other great men of distinction,
Some clearly deluded,
Yet none has concluded
What actually caused the extinction.
What really occurred
Lies somewhere obscured
Amongst all those theories and guesses.
Some still do remain, though,
Like the crane and komodo,
And a number of interstate truck-stop waitresses.

Napoleon's Contention For Josephine

On the plains of Europe I contend for an empire.
On love's battlefields I have contended more for thee.
A stare from your rolling eyeballs consumes me like fire,
as I seek entrance to a world of just you and me.
Mademoiselle Josephine, you are truly my world's wonder.
What precious gem or treasure can I to thee render?
Not even Europe's plundered gold could my love equate
for the diamond damsel I ask for a lifetime's date.
What eloquent poetry could my words for thee describe,
and what tender words of mine could I on thine heart inscribe?
A thousand princes may indeed contend for thine heart,
each of them loves-truck with your magical Cupid's dart.
A thousand more princes may contend for thy dowry,
but relentless I'll be to see their love plans go awry.

The Day the World Stopped

Everything was so chaotic,
People were idiotic.
Nothing was the same,
All the libs claimed Trump was to blame.
Just about all the stores
Had to close all their doors.
There was no toilet paper to be found,
And all of the people were frowned.
The government began to scream,
Which became a common theme.
BE SMART!
STAY SIX FEET APART!
But the people would not listen,
There was so much contention.
People were not allowed to touch or hug,
Researchers were working as fast as they could to find a drug.
Then one day there was a stay-at-home order,
And all the people were no longer striving to cross the border.
Since there wasn’t the usual hustle and bustle,
The world didn’t have so much as a rustle.
Seismologist noticed the vibrations of the earth were gone,
Everyone began to say, “is this a new dawn”?
The earth began to stand still,
And many people were asking, “was this all real?”
What could this all mean?
It has never before been seen.
Prayer became the new norm,
THIS WAS THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM!

Bones of Contention Center of Attention

Bones of contention can be at center of attention;
Often are found to be interesting I must mention;
Never up freeing;
With not agreeing;
They did mix among ranks with much dissension.

CONTENTION CONDEMNATION BLUES

Subject to continuation
I brought a life
I increase the price
A payment of forgiven sins for life
Living large
Heaven’s bars
I caught a rash
Sleeping on a sofa
Nuclear waste trash
In my eye alibi
Couldn’t tell in these times
If the person across the street a girl or a guy
Political up rises
Heavenly guidance
I isn’t a piece of nectar rye bread
Bread in the stomach jelly in my eyes
Strawberry, oatmeal in my shoes?

Planting my flag atop my sonnet’s peak
and outward gazing at the vales below,
I hear the rambling rivers, feel the faux
flow and fumble of their groping technique;

From high on up, I trace the snaky sneak
of weak words—and weaker metaphors,—slow
conclusions, mirroring the so and so…
I am compelled, my judgement thus to speak:

I declare war on free verse poetry!
Ach! scourge on rhyme, blight on rhythm,—I’ll beat
back the long-winded flood of half complete
thoughts. With respect to whom I name my foe,
if here you hear your name,—at least you’ll know:
In the formless form—I find my enemy!
