We loaded up for a Sunday drive
The Ozark Mountains were alive
Wild dogwoods of pink and white
Every shade of green in sight
Blooming jonquils and daffodils
Woodpeckers, blue jays, and whippoorwills
Even though the painting was unfinished
Nature's bounty was being replenished
On switchback mountain roads
Past gray bluffs where eagles abode
A long slow roller coaster ride
With buzzards feeding alongside
Headed to our favorite place
A canyon God's finger had traced
Where echos and memories yearn
Friendly fires cleanse and burn
The raccoons, the skunks and the deer
Cared less that we were here
A nervous lizard escorted us to the creek
Clear running ice water froze our feet
A white misty blanket of fog
Spread out for the picnicking frogs
The rocks played a gurgling tune
In the middle of Mother Nature's bedroom
Sitting under a cottonwood tree
It all comes back to me
Generations of family laughter
Roaring in the treetop rafters
I saw an old man with his two sons
In shadowed waters catching crawdads for fun
My children's voices heard in the wind
As they both were learning to swim
I started coming here at age five
We've camped here hundreds of times
Back then this water was deeper
Each year the stream grows weaker
But time's wind blows no weather vane
All around memories remain
I come here a lot to look
And color in my life's coloring book

Fall is Gods coloring book,
All the reds orange yellow and greens.
Nature couldn't be so bright.
Technicolor on a movie screen
If you don't think of God in fall,
You don't have a belief at all,
There are 3 other seasons of the year,
But nothing like fall even compares,
The most beautiful season, in the hemisphere

Though your eyes may not see it
when you look at me;
I am a child at heart.
Into my Crayola box of colors
I dive and dance;
my crayons, my best buds, shout,
“Pick me…pick me!”
I can’t decide and close
my eyes and grab one;
how it haughtily gloats upon the
page I am coloring.
I get excited when I color;
my crayon shouts,
“Don’t squeeze me so hard!”
I nearly drop it; I wasn’t expecting that;
crayons don’t usually protest.
When I am finished, there’ll be
jealous crayons who weren’t picked but,
I tell them, another picture is for you;
and they calm down.
Coloring releases my muse to play.
Children laugh when I tell them about
my competitive crayons;
It inspires them to color-dance
along with us.

The green song of Spring. A coloring book - the pages fluttering.
Pastel azaleas blooming. Violet hyacinths hug a vertical space.
Lemony tulips with lavish leaves. Iris cycloglossa ~ lilac, yellow, blue.
A felicitous field of larkspur. Petrichor and dewdrop bliss. Sunkisst!

Transit System
The underside of a gutter guard
Moved for mowing...
Destination - 7 feet away from home.
Stan the snail hitches a ride.
Amusement Park Ride
Clinging to the garage door
As it moves upward.
Clinging to the garage door
As it moves downward.
Stan the snail waits for a second ride.
Dangerous Adventure
Secretly hanging off the boy's pant leg.
Stan ends up in a heap of dirty clothing.
Targeted for the deadly washing machine.
Stan the snail crawls away from a poisonous death.

Stan the Snail wished for a ride
On a turtle before Stan died
With his antenna intact
And the wind at his shell's back
He'd relax while enjoying the stride.

1. Eat some dirt.
2. "Look" for a suitable habitat for winter hibernation.
3. Crawl up the side of a house.
4. Rest.
5. Finish crawling up the side of a house.
6. Crawl down the side of the same house.
7. Crawl on the sidewalk.
8. Avoid being crunched by a person's shoe.
9. Rest on a pile of stones.
10. Sniff around for some vegetation.
11. Eat some vegetation.
12. Avoid all predators and stay alive to face the next day.

When little CJ comes to visit
She asks me for her "colors,"
The bright, fat crayons that "nanna" keeps
In a recycled butter tub.
We share the color book; CJ scribbles
on the left, the crayon squeezed tightly
in her tiny fist.
I color on the right, carefully converting
the puppy outline into a masterpiece
of paper art.
The puppy must have chocolate brown;
The grass and trees need green, of course.
I stay within the lines, modeling correctness.
CJ helps me--smearing first a purple nose
on her kitten's face, trailing to my page
to add a purple splash to the tail
of my puppy.
I never am quite finished
when she decides it's time
to find new pictures and begin again.
I doubt we'll ever finish those we leave behind,
but I haven't the heart to tell her
she might be wasting pages or coloring them wrong.
Mayhap, our lives would be none the worse
for errant purple outside the lines
or a few pages left unfinished.

Turning the pages of God's coloring book
Beauty everywhere we look
Human minds cannot comprehend
The Greatest of artists and His pen
Each season, paints a different scene
Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring
The sun in summer, so yellow and bright
Forests of green such a beautiful sight
Vivid blues take on the sky
White clouds float steadily by
Green grass covers the land
Oceans blue meet white sand
Autumn brings leaves changing
Hues of warmth, colors ranging
Sunflowers, yellow and brown
Burgundy splashed all around
Breathtaking views of Autumn Fall
Mountains covered with majestic awe
The color of orange sprouts from the ground
Wearing stems green for a crown
Winter skies taken over with gray
Snow covered mountains, beauty displayed
Country roads, snow covered trees
So much to behold, the eye to see
The moon's faded hue, lights up the sky
Galaxy of colors, such a delight
The ground lies in beautiful white
As silver stars dance on high
Spring brings a vibrant view
Roses of red, Violets of blue
Camellias in shades of pink
Pastels from God's colored ink
Dandelions, cover the grass
A shade of yellow to add some class
Everything bright and anew
Handpicked of God's perfect hues
The elegance of God, none to compare
So vibrant yet so fragile and fair
In awe of everywhere we look
The beauty of God's coloring book

While driving down the interstate
A random stop brought me here today
Where, painted mountains touch the sky
and, Heaven's reflection on the water will stay
Serene surroundings from petal to bark
Just a peak of God's coloring book
Under a brush is where I'll lie
To a sky of royal blue I'll look
Saffron Daisies tickle my nose
While a cascaded breeze around me blows
A scenic day in midst July
The time right here gracefully flows.

Lying upside down
Unaware of upside down
A gust uprights Stan
Antenna Askew
Neck stretches to the heavens
The skew is gone

“Coloring Your Dreams”
Inside your dreams I drift…
Pulled up a chair and painted a gift…
Watched your world from a different view…
Saw hidden feelings I never knew…
From my pallet I dipped my brush…
With eyes closed you still did blush…
Outlined your dreams in a colorful array…
Bright splashes over your inner buffet…
As you awake I drift away like distant sounds…
Leaving my presence that stays around…

Here I am again…
With a blank page staring at me
and thoughts that I can no longer suppress
are Screaming in my mind
wanting to be expressed
the reason for my distress
Is actually quite simple
Because My existence like air
and I’m slowly fading away
To a place that’s dark
Human Interaction is a strange thing
because one second were on good terms
and the next were strangers
I’m sick and tired of giving and giving
to those around me because
whenever I run out of stuff to give
or they had their full
they all disappear some leaving
deeper scars than other
It’s really sad
I want to live my life to its fullest
but I despise this kind of living
after being drained for so long
My life turned into a blank coloring book
Every time I start gaining color panel by panel
and I start feeling whole again
out of nowhere a storm appears
And floods the streets of my consciousness
Leaving nothing but blank sheet
because the paint I was defining myself with
wasn’t water proof
