Best Characters Poems
Don’t use special characters!
In writing I was told,
Next to the title of my poem.
(The letters black and bold.)
“Poems Don’t Have to Rhyme,” is what
I chose to name my piece,
But with this title, what I wrote
The site would not release.
For only letters, numbers, dashes,
Commas are allowed;
Apostrophes and colons, too,
Are welcomed in that crowd.
I looked back at my heading
And I didn’t understand
Exactly how it merited
That tyrant-like command.
I had to change my title –
It’s called “Poems” now on my list,
But someone messing with my words
Makes me feel awfully pissed.
A is for Akela of Jungle Book fame
B is for Baloo from Jungle Book the same
C is for Cinderella what a pretty sight
D is for Donald Duck, hope he doesn’t bite
E is for Eyore the lovely donkey that brays
F is for the Fairy Godmother your wishes she obeys
G is for the Gopher loves Honey from Winnie the Pooh
H is Hyacinth Hippo from Snow White fame that’s true
I is for Ian the Alligator who is always hungry
J is for Jiminy Cricket who starred in Pinocchio story
K is for Kiara means princess in Swahili from Lion King
L is for the lovely Lady not sure where Tramp is hiding
M Is for Mickey Mouse with the best fashion trend
N is for Nala was Simba’s childhood friend
O is for the Owl with eyes so big. Sees everything
P is for Peter Pan in his book he is king
Q is for the Queen of Hearts with a tray of lovely goodies
R is for Rafiki is a Mandrill meaning friend in Swahili
S is for Simba who likes to live dangerously
T is for Tramp who is looking for his Lady
U is for Uncle Max the Meerkat another Disney star
V Is for Vitani the outsider lioness who looks from afar
W is for Wendy, she is waving to Peter Pan
X is for Xerxes you will find him in Aladdin
Y is for Yzma from the Emperor’s new Groove
Z is for Ziggy the hungry vulture everyone hates to love

Lil Abner
There was never a feature in all the world,
Like "Lil Abner" for chasing the blues,
It takes this romantic comic strip,
To really make the news!
I'm always quite excited when our
"Press" lands against the door,
To see if "Lil Abner",
Is alive and well once more!
Every venture he undertakes,
I trot along too!
For in my imagination,
We find lots of things to do!
Now you may not agree with me
On a comic strip so small,
But "Lil Abner" still remains,
My "favorite" of them all. . .
CHARLIE'S CARTOON CHARACTERS
Once upon a time, long, long ago, in a far away land, in the land where Charlie lived, there was a group of cartoon characters who felt as though they were the greatest thing to come along since sliced bread was put on the market. They were truly a curious bunch of characters who could be seen on any given day careening down the thoroughfare on their coveted tricycles causing people to scatter for fear of being crushed by these cavorting crazies who carelessly chose to clutter up the sidewalkway and the crosswalk while practically choking with laughter.
From the other side of town, there came a handsome, muscled up soon to be champion of the people because he had come to clean up this careening group of cartoon characters and put Charlie in his place. This champion's name was Clint, as in Eastwood, but even more impressive. He came into town on his cherished red, white, and blue skateboard. Clint was on a crusade. Yes, he was certainly charismatic and rather charming with his crooked little curved lip smile and the cheroot cigar clamped tightly between his crystalline teeth. Well, his very appearance was enough to convince Charlie and his gang of cohorts to seek a change of scenery and move to an entirely different city. Clint never even had to get off of his skateboard except to convince a certain little campus cutie that he was to become her cherished companion and settle down in a clean little cabin on the corner of Clint Avenue and Colleen Boulevard. Yes, that is what the town folks named that location. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention that the little campus cutie was named Colleen. She and Clint are the proud parents of Curtis, Catherine, Constance, and two classy little girls named Jan and Andrea. They all live happily in Cunningham, Colorado. Cunningham is a little place named after a poet, Tom Cunningham. Tom and another noted poet named Bob Hinshaw help Clint maintain law and order as they sit around thinking up stuff to write for folks to read when they don't have anything better to do.

Each of us is born the main persona
in the narrative of his or her own life.
Through ever-changing atmosphere,
supporting characters and diversity of settings,
we help to mold the rising action of our own tale.
A great variety of characters abound in our stories.
Some of them, bright pennies tossed into existence,
spin wildly on exploits which make for
the most gripping of preliminary chapters.
However, their denouement is hard to guess.
Others, silver dollar, sparkle too,
but in a much less compromising way.
I suppose most of us could fit into that category.
Giddily we dance through early life’s events.
Then on and on we go, unraveling our plot,
striving always for happily-ever-afters.
A smaller group, Olympian, glide like skaters
on ice. Not only blessed, they are also driven.
Their chronicles inspire us; they are gold!
Others, although colorful, when held up to the light,
they are shown as counterfeit, the perpetrators of pure fiction.
A few, by fate and nature not so blessed, may court insanity,
or at the very least, create confusion
with their crises that seem to come unceasingly
yet often fail to find resolution.
Possibly, if given a good polishing,
they could be diamonds in the rough!
There are others who are the spawn of a society gone wrong.
They stalk our paths, as unfeeling as assassins.
The pages from their lives can horrify.
However, those who wield great power
are also often morally corrupt, and
if their stories live on, it’s in infamy only.
These types of souls are nothing but
cold, hard cash, and paper burns or crumbles
in the end.
A final group is joyless.
Given something . . . giving nothing back,
they hoard the talents God gifted them.
They wonder woefully why no one wants
to open their books to even read
the parts that once had held some promise.
For them it would be better to have been
a rusting copper penny in dread of its own conclusion
than even an evil-doer whose story titillates
and at least gets read.

To summarize your life
In 4000 characters (including spaces)
Seems hard at first
‘There are too few spaces’
‘There isn’t enough room’
‘How can I show all facets of my extraordinary life’
Then you realize
Your life is not as exciting
As you often portray
18 years of existence
Is crammed into just over one page
Then unknown people judge you
But Some people should feel happy
That they have more than enough space.
I certainly don’t.
Then they chose to accept you
not on your personality
But on your words
But frankly
It's probably for the best
For people like me

Barbie and Ken look just right
Cartoon characters are no delight
There is old Porky Pig, if you please
Obviously he has Parkinson’s disease
And just as soon as you see her
You know Olive Oyl has anorexia
Attention deficit disorder has Daffy Duck
Unless he’s treated, he’ll be out of luck
Elephantiasis afflicts sailor Popeye
His arms and legs you can tell it by
Pepe LePew suffers from sexual addiction
Of that fact, there can be no contradiction
Then there’s Sylvester the black & white cat
A severe lisp surely makes him talk like that
There are others who’ll doubtless come to mind
Whose bad medical problems it isn’t hard to find
Mermaids, sirens of the seven seas,
Guardians of Davey Joanne’s keys
Water babes, in rivers seen to swim
Young mermaids, now there’s a thing!
Kermit the frog, and miss Piggy too
Live shows, were all a joy to view
Donald Duck, weren’t he quackers
Scooby Doo, his mates all crackers
Bugs Bunny, always asking Doctors
Skippy one of Australia’s many hoppers
Elmer Fud, very strange character
Woody Woodpecker, his laughter
Speedy Gonzalez, a tiny little mouse
Sleeping Beauty found herself a spouse.
Robin Hood and his band of merry men,
Perhaps they were good way back then?
Bill and Ben and little weed, blib a blob
Pop Eye, loved his corn on the cob
Okay, I know, he loved his spinach
Oh yes, and Olive, both now vintage
Walt Disney, Hanna Barbra knew the score
Making children laugh, for them not a chore
Back now, in the land of the living

Desert - This refers to desert surrounding Phoenix AZ
Manhattan - Name for the island of NYC, not including Brooklyn, Queens, etc.
Super - Nickname for the superintendent of a tenement or apartment building.

Greenwich Village - West of the Lower East Side NYC
Lower East Side - Part of NYC ( name of it describes where it is)
Alphabet City - Part of the Lower East Side of NYC

U.P.S - A delivery service (In poem pronounced by letters, no as “up sss” )

How to save characters
How to save character tonight and forever
Not to enter into the hell of verses
Not to suffer as I then
Angels not to paint with the broken wings
To not feel pain nowhere and never as I do
To redo the prayer and say besides I love you
There have entered into rhymes or words and scribblings
Love of a great hopes or disappointments
Beliefs or infidelity, ego rusted in a misery
Romances, dreams and the road solitude
And the poet repeatedly above sufferings sow only love
Kingdom of Prayers, dimensions beyond brilliance
Oh Lord how to save them but not bleed the muse
There enter and leave people without invitation, masks, friends and evils
Hot to save them without being wounded within my verses
In the chronicle of beauty and evil, in the secrets and betrayals
In mysteries, ancient symbolism murderous passions
Not entering or leaving except for goodness planetary prayers
Little Cindy Lou Who runs a cafe round the bend.
If you are lonely, that's where you'll find a friend.
Because all of the characters who live in Whoville land
eat colorful eggs there. (But no green eggs for Sam I Am!)
My friend is Yertle, whose house is his shell.
He has learned not to want to rule all pretty well.
I talk with Horton who says he hears a Who (or two).
Horton champions small creatures showing us Whos are true!
All 91 of us thank Dr. Seuss who brought us to life
So we could tackle problems, like teach how to beat strife.
We teach compassion and joy that makes us sing.
We help children learn, with funny characters, what love can bring.
