Past-Life Nightmare

A child of four suffers recurring dreams,
disturbing parents and siblings with screams.
When she awoke, always sore in one knee;
next to a birthmark, it throbbed painfully.

Night after night she feared going to bed.
What caused these nightmares that raged in her head?
Even when grown, the torment persisted,
so a therapist’s aid she enlisted.

“Hypnosis,” said he, “might offer some clues.
Why not try it? You’ve just bad dreams to lose.”
Once under, he guided her to a room --
here people’s lifetimes in books were entombed.

“Find one that is yours,” her counselor said.
Quickly she did, but before it was read,
she felt an ache, saw just a faint title.
The words, she thought, said “Alister Bridle.”

The hypnotic trance now suddenly broke;
puzzling questions “Mr. Bridle” evoked.
For many years she thought that was her name;
perhaps a past life had been filled with pain.

Who was this man? She simply had to know!
Seasons passed, summer suns made way for snow.
In Florida now, 1998,
she thought all the nightmares she had escaped.

But strange dreams always catch us by surprise --
when the lights grow dim, our minds fantasize.
Cloaked in velvet, she left her parents’ farm,
stealing away on a late autumn morn’.

To meet her love, she climbed on the carriage,
knowing her folks would forbid their marriage.
Warm-hued leaves carpeted the hillside road,
and her pulse beat fast; she’d soon join her beau.

She thought only of him; joy cast its smile,
but that’s when he called, “Alice, the bridle!”
The leather band broke and wrapped ‘round her knee.
To the ground she was pulled; her horse ran free.

She met death, but past-life dreams recycle,
and she’d never been “Alister Bridle.”

The Best Poem Ever

~The best poem ever~

Without saying a word I’m going to go where no one has gone before.
A twilight zone, only God and I know of.

Without saying a word I’m going to recite the best poems ever.
Poems with no vision too stare.
Quietly with a hum, only you can hear.

Silent through my mind I will walk whistling, without a care.
Feeling and thinking as my heart beat goes on.
Searching for your heart beat next to mine.
Dreaming of words that blind,
Dreaming of words which connect us together!

Without saying a word I’m going to look and speak for the first time.
Howl and feel as our chemicals sublime.
I’m going to get hungry before I die in your arms.

Through circles and rods, I carry this year alone.
Imagining all the days it was only you and I.
“Not only I!”

Without saying a word I’m going to listen for your voice to call my name.
A whisper that setting itself on repeat.

Anticipating, those look before you look away.
Wanting and waiting, I will still be whistling.
Overwhelmed by, fate at the door.

Without saying a word I’m going to, leave a whisper in the bedroom
Without making movement, with my mouth!

Control all the space, around me.
Touching the energy you left behind.
Hear the snowy winter chime.
Experience all the shelter in your hold.

Without saying a word I’m going to, lay down beside you.
Laying in a way, that feels better than freedom.

Millions of miles away, I’ll still be whistling.
And waiting and waiting, for that perfect lay.
Arguing and embracing the air we both breathe.
A breath for every reason!

Without saying a word I’m going to, mime the world tonight.
Over and over, till I mime the perfect poem, like the olden days.
Without a word to say!

I’m wrapping my own arms around me, like a mime.
Explaining the breath you took without me.
Talking to myself without saying a word!
Writing the perfect poem without a word to say!

Without saying a word I’m going to, yell this inside.
Whistle and mumble till I’m out of breath.
Dying with my dreams to be by your side!

Without saying a word I’m going to, close my eyes and see your face.
A bond not even death can break.

Without saying a word I’m going to, sit here, till your wind hits.
A tap that’s inspires the best poem ever.

Until then, I’m going to whistle without a word to say.
And enjoy your silhouette everyday.

Sweet Sugar Cookies and Peanut Butter Bars

"I dream of Candy!"

Sweet cakes and peanut butter squares
A living diabetic's nightmare. -- My heart
sings to the beat, Under the Neutron Star Crunch
Sweet sugar cookies and peanut butter bars

Taunting whoopers,
Dancing dum dum's,
The sweetest silhouette show - in my room
Dreamy, Creamy Cupcakes in the afternoon
Cinnamon Cheerios cascade on my spoon
Sweeter than my sweet tooth
Now and later - a forever honeymoon

Jigglin' my jelly belly boo berry Butterfinger delight
I'm in love, licking the icy ICEE all night long
Extra freshness, once I crop a top off of a mountain dew pop
My eyes sparkle like diamond dazzle razzles in the sky
i LIVE to fabricate my very own sugar extract R.E.M. Sleep
Savoring the sound of saliva trapped in my mouth
THIS night - ovulated buds - wait to feast!
Enjoying a delicious dulce music sleepy symphony

Braggin' and embracin' a pinata pillow escapade
Enchanted by a cotton candy crave - calling my name

Lalaloopsy licorice and lemonade tea
The best-wet dream I've ever seen
Marshmallows of solitude dulcify every fresh fantasy
Enticing in a bright slushy skittles daydream freeze

One fat sunny bowl of cereals and cane
Crackerjack spell --- chocolate chip swirls,
Caramel lumps constipate the brain
Sizing - peanuts and in a popcorn party payday
Wrigley's wild winter Spearmint Breath parade
Give me, give me, some Gummy bear Dessert
---------"Another Fruit Ninja hair DAY!"
Watermelon Taffy stuck on the top of my gums
Swallowing the whiteness in a whistle pop bar
I FELL LIKE A SWEET SUGAR STAR!!!

Glaze of glory erupts deep down my throat 24/7
Bubblicious, mint twist, Sunkist the best Twizzler breakfast
Yummy in my twinkie tummy, drooling over frosted flakes
One more strawberry smoothie 44 oz cup
Counting each and every Pez popping'' up
Goodnight light,
It's time to get lost under the midnight moon pie sky
SELF- Huggin'' and snugglin'' to a new sugar rush high

A Poetry Collection

Hourglass

Sand falls
Through the glass
Love falls
Within the past
Memories dance
They never last
Head in my hands
As I stare overhead
At the hourglass

Falling Down Stairs

Stairs broken
Wheels unspoken
I fell
Grasping for air
Are you there?

Piano Keys

Playing me
Rhythms dancing free
Clouds in air
Notes tossed in despair
Are you there?

Voices

Echoes
Broken wings
Wounded sparrows sing
Clinging to clouds high in sky
Chirping symphonies
Knowing not at all the why
Never loved…
Never loved…
Never hugged
In solitude wonders fly
No one
No one is there

In the Key of Despair

Tap tap
Music in the ear
Flowing freely in the salty air
Beethoven, are you there?
In the breeze, I hear the notes
My mind runs away, it floats
Pain drowned in the river
Limbs frolic on shores of hope
Keys somber in black and white
As I touch them
It conveys the fright

Strings

Choking, not me, but the air
Credenzas and waves
Washing away the realities
Of all your trivialities
Whilst I whither and fade away
Inside a musical symphony
Strangled on lusty desires
Are you
Are you there?

Sleep

Notes hither and floating in the breeze
I look up
The moon
My last breath
My last hope
My last wish
A kiss from the one I never met
The moon hides under cloud
My eyes in tranquility close
The beat no longer in time
No longer there
Where ever I am going
My last thought
Are you there?

Violins and Other Things

Distractions
Deformed from loves inaction
Teardrops falling on time
Rolling down passages
Where darkness does dine
Notes high, notes low
Treble as I grasp the clef
The conductor knows all that is refined
In the end
He shall consume the wine
As I, was consumed by time

Masterpieces

The piano full of dust
Brushes dipped in paints
Now turn to dust
There is a poem over there
In the corner
By the naked painting
Of my Caribbean liver
That cried and wept
Day and night
Night and day
When willows swayed
And the raven landed
On the sill
Of the empty room
For I am no more

Silence whispers
Are you there?

Guitar Strings and Clouds

I caress the strings of discord
Melodies shouting
Displeasure
Credenza’s and interludes
Wine intrudes
The senses squished like sour grapes
Emotions boxed in crates
I caress philosophy
As my garden sadistically does undress
Taunting the desires of my illusions unrest
The rose and the rain drop
Embrace
I cry

Last Act

Once was life
One…… tear… one tear…… drop
One gasp of fear
Fate licking……………………… deaths ear

Pretty Shoes and Cracked Feet

Once I'm gone
I'll only be remembered a small while
I'm a tiny tick on a large dial
The words I breathe will stretch about a mile
Even those who are in history books
the Kings writers and famous cooks
The gorgeous people with talent and looks
They too in the end fade away
Don't get me wrong it's all okay
We might try to hold on but none of us can stay
All have a bit part
on this watery ball of granite and clay

Some are calm others make waves
One smooth skinned another shaves
She loves him while he's attracted to Dave
They both pretend because they have to behave
Each in their own prison living like a slave
The preacher too plays his part
trying to find people to save

Some couples love from the start till death
She breathes in he exhales her breath
Their children thrive Bobby and Beth
While some mothers go it alone
Daddies leave and are never known
Children left to learn life from a smart phone

Some chase riches when other just want to eat
Walking on pretty shoes while poor men have cracked feet
The music plays so clearly yet we fail to hear the beat
So I wonder what's it all for
This wanting more and more
Is that really God knocking at our door
Yes it is I believe it at my core
So why do we leave it closed
Maybe because we fear our sins will be exposed
a life manicured and posed
could be unfroze
Freedom from each prison chose
Instead why not drink from the garden hose
Wear our humanity
discard these labeled clothes
Count down the future with fingers and toes
Within a momentary breath each spirit goes
As minds open each heart then grows
What happens next only God knows!

How Do I Love Thee - Let Me Count The Ways

Listen to poem:

1.
and every time i see you it is for the first time
still my heart skips a beat
and every time we kiss it is our first
and there is nothing like that first kiss.
2.
and it is not just that i love you with every fibre of my being
but more important that i cherish it and treat it as my most
important priority.
3.
and now i believe that
nothing
could have stopped me from loving you.
even if we had never met i am convinced
you would of monopolized my dreams.
4.
and I choose to believe the beauty spread freely
on earth sparkles just a hint brighter because
we are so in love with one another.
5.
and to have shared my life with you as you have shared your
life with me apart or together always the better for the union
we live.
6.
and I still own every crystal clear memory
of every arbitrary kiss you unexpectedly left on my lips.
7.
and not yesterday
not tomorrow
now
is the heaven of our existence.
8.
and we always knew 'why? fight the current if you can surf the waves'.
9.
and our mornings
in the solitude outside our home
where birds fly and salty dogs roam
sharing that with you my love
feels like the purest freedom available to all earthly life.
10.
and i love it when you slip under my skin like you would
our bed sheets after a long journey away.
11.
and even in the pitch of black, surrounded by the dark
my eyes shut and blindfolded i would not see the moon
or the stellar diamonds that hug the night sky but still i
would see you.
12.
and if i hold you a little tight at times
please blame my exuberance on the joyous life we've
shared - every moment we've spent as a loving couple.
13.
and it is you my love who taught me
the weeping willow not the mighty oak
represents the greatest strength in nature.
14.
and now I know my love the trust to unfold for your partner
everything that is you (even the darkest parts of your makeup),
the comfort that there is nothing about you your partner won't accept
is a special love gifted to those who seek it with pure intent.
15.
and if the truth be known marriage isn't love, marriage is a contract
unlike love contracts can be broken.
16.
and i will always be there to hold you when there are no words.
17.
and when i knew it was you i knew it would never be anyone else ever again.
18.
and if not for love then what?
19.
The Closing Soliloquy

Sleep well my darling
Warm in my heart
Tender in my thoughts
Safe in my hold

and

I do
I hold you
Singular

Gift you happiness
Like links on a chain
Pure gold
Glitters
Like the brilliant sheen of hope

and

Hope is
The greatest gift of all

Sweet dreams my heart
Soft in the natural embrace of my undying love.

Love's Alchemy is Eternal

Love’s Alchemy is Eternal

Your look, touch, and scent now so perfect pure,
Enchants my true emotions and soaring passion.
I knoweth now our love shall always endure,
As God unites our souls as one by divine action!

Our sensual passion defines love’s spirit entire,
As we caress and kiss for this moment’s bliss.
Love’s alchemy maketh our spirits soar afire,
As we embrace our lips find that deepest kiss!

Our hearts beat now in a sacred tempo of love,
That reflects our real destiny, two souls as one.
This is God’s gift to us from Heaven high above,
As we wish these magic moments of eternal fun!

By Heaven, I pray our love’s alchemy forever,
And declareth my love shan’t leave you ever!

I Can't Breathe

In memory of----

Solely in my room, I can't stomach the sound of my heartbeat.
I sit here alone to forget the taste of air,
Overwhelmed by the scene -unbelievable footage
18 seconds too long, "I can't breathe."
My judgement is gone, stressing all night long
I use to fear dark colors, now I fear spinning bright lights
Red, White, and Blue, I spew the NY Police crew
What's wrong with your blue eyes?
You see him, you want to mess with him
What a day to trade -- a life for illegal cigarettes
Persecution and judgment day, a sweet life taken away
"I can't breathe", executed in broad daylight!

Bullies left and right
What happened to minding our business?
Moneymaking, refusing to be singled out
A hurting voice tackled by racism
Free to see, pouring his heavy heart,
Oinker's demand the ground, leaving out his testament
8 times too many, "I can't breathe!"
Where did his vitals go?
Can someone please pound the pavement!

Stress, anger, madness, the voices of the innocent
"I can't breathe." the volume of Valium
"Officer, did you not hear the man?"
Are you deaf, have you forgotten how to save a life?
Is it just the NYPD or is it every other badge,
Insinuating crime's a one-color show.
We are all criminals, why the excessive heat?
Shot, tasered, beat down, pepper sprayed, now on the ground
The choke hold of all choke holds, murdered and out numbered
The echoes remain "I can't breathe!"

- The truth!
Eric Garner robbed of his own natural path and youth
One man down eyed suspiciously
Perplexed minds suffocating him instantly
The mistrusted, the fear, the hate,
So tangible, uniforms using deadly force
One asthmatic in a choke hold
Slamming his head on the flooring
Open wounds, worldwide tears

My heart goes to the family and friends left behind
A courageous last breath, for the first and last time
"I can't breathe," now deceased.
You left this world unwilling, waking up a strong community
Strolling in a better world, where racism don't exist
"I can't breathe," Eric Garner Rest in peace!

Where Gladiators Fought

Part I

Where gladiators fought for life,
we meet to fight for love
The constellations in the Roman night sky,
celestial spectators, bathe the Colosseum
in the white blood of light
The night is throbbing with the heat of our battle,
our cries, more passionate than any that have gone before

Part II

A short while earlier
A well paid bribe found us in the remains of the Ludus Magnus,
the remains of the old Gladiator School in Rome
where lies buried
a hidden entrance to an underground tunnel
You pull me with you into dark underground world of legend
By light of a flickering torch,
we travel into the entrails of the behemoth,
coming in time upon the holding rooms
My breath catches
I hear the sounds of man and beast
carrying through the thin layers of time:
Slaves, criminals, debtors, all awaiting their fate…
Animals pawing, grunting, starved for food
Dying to kill to stave the gnawing pain
Waiting….
Waiting to be lifted up into the arena
Waiting to fight
Waiting to live or die

Part III

We break into the hypogeum
The crispness of the night air stings us
The vastness of it all paralyzes all thought
Rome comes ALIVE
The resurrection of history enflames us,
and as we mount those final stairs up to the arena,
I feel your excitement blazing through me
Your grasp is almost painful in jubilee
“We are here…HERE!” Your voice is laced with the sacred.
Between those famed arches…XIX and XX
We stand
You and I all and 50,000 ghost spectators
Here at the East Entrance
The Gate of Life Looms above us
True gladiators passed through these very gates
Here the applause coursed through their veins
And thundered to the captives below…
Here I stand
Quivering with the knowledge of all this night means to me
That thunder reverberates through MY body
I can hardly breathe
Your eyes are looking up at tiered levels
while mine look ahead
There is the walkway connecting the east to west
At the far side is the Libitinarian, the Gate of Death,
through which dead gladiators were dragged,
their bodies dumped in the Spoliarium
to be stripped of clothes and armor
Life and death
Here, they converged
Here, they fought
On this night
I know
I will strip myself of my clothing and armor
I will let down my defenses
and give in to your onslaught of passion
Here… I will die to all but your eyes

Part IV

I walk, quietly, with purpose
Here….in this place...
my virgin blood will be spilt
Halfway between life and death, I stop
I turn towards you
My voice reaches you on the night wind
“Come to me!”
I see you move towards me
My mighty gladiator
You who have fought my demons
You who have slain my nightmares
You who have held in check
A savage desire for possession
As you stand before me
I wonder if you know
Tonight is the night
You will plunder and ravage
to your heart's delight
your just reward

Part V

You find a place to keep the torch upright
You see the blanket I’ve spread on the ground
I answer the question in your eyes
With the curve of my lips
I steady my hands as they work to undress me
I feel my body burn in the warmth of your presence
Your eyes undress me faster than my hands can,
and yet... you are....immovable
You stand transfixed
You wait until my only covering
Is my flowing hair
"Make love to me
Here, now...be my gladiator
Come...claim your prize."
I reach out my hand to you
and in a moment
before my next intake of breath
you've come to life and crush me in your arms
Your mouth claims mine
like never before
seeking more
your tongue explores
demanding, commanding
it takes what it will
You pull me in to you
Your hand in my hair,
my breath is raptured by your sheer strength
Your mouth travels along my neck
Hungry….like a famished animal finally set free to feast
You devour as you reach my cleavage
I lean back to let you savor my breasts
For the first time
to taste
You’re down on your knees
your tongue encircling my navel
going round and round and dipping inside
This prophetic dance of what is to come
washes over me
as you lower me to the ground
In a moment, I’m looking at the stars
The two brightest ones being your eyes
You are above me
You are everywhere
Kissing tasting touching feeling pleasing
Finding my voice, I pant...
“Don't...be gentle
not...now!"
I’m gasping with the effort
of all I need to say...
of the weight of feelings...
raging within me
"Don't...hold back anymore
Take me...
Take me...now."

Your hands reach for mine and pin them down
My breasts heave, my body rocks
as I feel you plunging into the moistness
that your very presence always creates in me
But never...to this luxuriant degree
Pain mixes with pleasure again and again
As I hear your grunt and groan
Your ecstasy comes in manish moan
And I close my eyes to the Roman night sky

I sigh
I die
To the world
I am reborn in you
I hear your victory cry
And feel your jubilant release inside

Part VI

They fought for life
We fought for love
My fingers run through your hair
Your head is pillowed on my breast
My heart beat a reminder
Of what you have won
A gladiator’s reward...

LIFE
found
in the arms
of the woman
you

I Write

Tiptoeing towards the edge of the towering cliff I flap my wounded wings and fly over tall two hundred year old oak trees up to the top of the highest of mountains scanning a never ending sovereign sky I glide effortlessly in the strong southern trade winds watching the fawn and her doe in the wilderness My heart starts to beat, and I write I write of the fragrant fancy free daisies growing unrestrained of the sun smiling down reflecting in the fast flowing babbling brook of the doe munching on the savory green and yellow grasses oblivious to her surroundings , the fawn firmly within her sight I hear the songs coming from the red breasted baby Robin calling to her mother wondering when she'll return with dinner my heart beats lovingly and I write I soar higher and higher heading for the heavens past the mammoth yellowish orange coloured moon through the mysteries of the milky way all along thinking of the mysteries lying inside you I open my eyes, imagine I'm with you and I write

So Soft is the Sonnet of Willows

This is a very long poem and I will understand if you choose not to spend the time reading it.
It is something I wrote a long time ago and I thought I’d just put it out here in case anyone cared to read it.
Thank you, Chris

So Soft is the Sonnet of Willows Such is the heart of a dreamer Sought after deep in the mist Seeking the quest of a thirsting desire Falling to moments like this Peering the distant endeavor Calling the places I’ve known Sending out visions so endless in wonder Standing this ledge all alone Come to my heart always steady Shape it as how it should be Teach me the ways of your unending song Lyrics of comfort to me Lift me with phrases now spoken Take from my words on the page Collections of feelings I wear on my sleeve Shine me the light of your ways I am of clay so unmolded Bend me and shape me to form Open my heart with the keys of your love While dying I wish to be born Caverns so wide as I forage The depth of their history deep Shadows that follow the pathways I walk Stairways my soul it does keep Yours is my desperate reason Clinging to every fold Challenges lie in wake of the storm Northerly winds flowing cold I shan’t recoil destinations My mind it is set on the prize Temptingly so it does fan every flame Come I shall soon realize Time for the moment a danger Season’s of past now I fear As I declare my unending longing Wishing you ever so near Trapped as I traverse the mountain Chains of my pain garner tight Reaching for avenues lost in the fog Blinded by darkness of night Soon I will relive the mornings Joined by a perfect content Welcoming sunrise as everywhere glows Finding the hours we’ve spent Trusting that no one is watching Holding your hand on the street Wrapping my arms ‘round your waist for a while Kissing your lips soft and sweet Words that will require actions Motions in spite of the sky Threatening these clouds overhead as I walk Waving the past a good bye Now as my life is beginning Fortunate flags sure to wave Sending a secret embedded in stone Caution for this I do crave Asking this long winded journey Steps in the grass for to find Destiny praises my unfettered wishes Spent as the heart does unwind Yours is the hand that I reach for Save me in spite of my tears Love me for many more wars shall invade Filling the future with years Run with me out to the fields Keep me in sight at all turns Paint me with colors so vibrant and true Teach me for I want to learn I will not be so untrusting Pressures no longer to hide Truth is my shield as it shines ever gold Honesty I shall confide Come to my heart it is waiting Here in this darkened abyss Shining so bright for your eyes now to see Reaching for you that I miss I promise you shall not be sorry Taking this chance is the key Found in the corners of thoughts so inspired True as my covenant be I whisper my truth through the mountains Breathless I run to the shore Hopeful I patiently wait your reaction Searching for you evermore Soft is the sonnet of willows Wavering winds form the streams Blowing so that you may welcome my peace Singing the songs of your dreams Mine is a tiresome journey Treasures all cast to the bay Every dollar I’ve owned as a man Spent in a fortunate way For this is my precious possession A heart that does beat from above Carefully showing the face of the plan Showering you with my love Rain on the valley of passion Rose petal scent brings the breeze Take from this night the joys of affection Lingered in fresh memories This I do pledge, my heart crossing No longer wishing to die Rivers of hope that do wash on your feet Sent forth attempting to try Cherishing love I am finding Wanting forever to be Everything that you do see in your soul All that’s expected of me I am but only one person Doing just what I will do Being myself in the face of the storm Sending my love up to you There is no mask I am wearing The smile you see is for real I can not be something that I am not All of my life I reveal Hoping that you understand this Praying my words written of Things that my heart wants to tell you my dear Penned now with only my love Such is the heart of a dreamer Seeking not silver and gold My only goalis that you love me true Just as my dreams have foretold So soft is the sonnet of willows Wind through their branches blows free Whispering dreams evermore shall come true When you are standing with me

Silent Goodbye

I forgot myself today
as melancholic melodies
overwhelm each beat
of my wandering heart.

The sanctimonious sun deceives
as a bitter breeze breathes
against sullen silent surfaces.

Recycled emotions penetrate
with a repetition of deep sighs.
My spiritless soul strays, but is
happy to be lost in lyrical lament.

As the Nightingale chants its
continuous regretful resonance,
the tip of my tongue aches
to whisper your amorous name, but
holds back knowing you can't hear.

Without your enchanted vision,
neglected eyes perish.
Without your perfumed presence,
senses remain scentless.
Without your tender touch,
fragile petals won't blossom.

As a cascade of sandcastle emotions
infiltrate stubborn sierra barriers.
Violent tears erupt,
demolishing hardened walls.
What used to be bitter breaths and
spiteful sighs are now regretful cries.

Your silent goodbye still haunts
as the lips grieve for one last kiss.
I forgot myself today,
but have not forgotten your love.

A Chorus Sang Its Last Concerto

I walked in darkness along the shore
seeking solitude, nothing more
Thunder drummed from far away
a foreboding timpani, clouds began to play
They competed with the roar of waves
crashing to the beach in rhythmic laves
Everything seemed out of reach to me
the moon, the stars, the depth of the sea

Came haunting notes of a solo flute
chasing the wind as though in pursuit
They synchronized with percussion drums
their tempo in tune with whispered hums
I kept time in measure's of an allegro beat
Three quick steps, then twirl and repeat

Echoes of a nocturne swirled in my head
lyrics unsung. They were spoken instead
My soprano continued, his falsetto stopped
too weak to stand, to my knees I dropped
my footprints had been erased by the tide
No longer was I able to run or hide

Blind in the darkness, loneliness daunting
a lightning flash, then another, taunting
me to lift my eyes to the sky, to the falling rain
its sting delivered in a medley, stacattos of pain
On the edge of the sea I waited for the end of me
My tears an ensemble, an elegy in requiem plea

Mute to the orchestra, I disobeyed their call
Instead, I applauded the storm's kettle drum squall
No encore would this night be able to reprise
As the tide's flow encroached, I closed my eyes
A chorus of waves crashed; cymbals in concerto
The baton fell from the hand of the Grand Maestro

Puppets Of Hell On The Stage Of Life

Upon the stage of life
there are many puppets of hell.
Their bright costumes conceal sin and strife
and beneath them deception does dwell.

Their lines are a demon inspired script.
They put on a convincing act.
Many souls over their lies have tripped.
It truly is a sad fact.

They call good, evil and evil, good.
Their footwear is the hypocrite’s shoe.
If it’s possible they really would
like to slip that charlatan sandal on you.

Masters are they of façade and guise,
sometimes robed as angels of light.
They prey upon both simple and wise.
To turn men from truth is their delight.

Perhaps it’s a hand puppet or a marionette
dancing to the beat of a diabolical drum.
Their deceptive doctrines some never vet,
and to fabrication they thus succumb.

If their mantras you cannot tolerate,
if you don’t embrace them fully,
puppet voices they’ll raise while they are irate.
They’ll call you a bigot or bully.

There is one sure cure that we have today
to keep ourselves from being shook.
Check out the lines that they boldly say
‘gainst God’s Holy, infallible Book.

If you see through those serpentine soliloquies now,
and things aren’t as they have supposed,
don’t allow the moppets their final bow.
Let the curtain on their drama be closed.

A Good Cry

Listen to poem:

i wait at the river for the cry of the loon

from below
in the muck
reeds
grow tall
there are no lips that will draw music
from these clarinet dwellers

i stand under the brightly lit dusk
nearly motionless

the moon above is glued in place nailed in to its spot
holding on to a piece of the bedtime sky

the little dipper reminds me of a rocking chair
my favourite star shines just a little dimmer

time passes
does so
uninvited

its metronome beat replaces the soundscape
of an otherwise musically crowded air

a hand descends from above
cuts the trapped moon down to a sliver
leaving the twilight mostly blind

i'm getting old
still even my worn out senses
are aware
of the days
aware
of that single golden eye
of its rise
its set
its endless loop

quiet is my flow of sand

stressed beyond reason
my lungs want to burst
my brain explode
my emotions are stretched passed their limit

my chest fills
my chest empties

the choice was
has always been mine
i have not lived the life i was gifted

i'm frozen
i'm hot
like a statue baking in the unforgiving rays of Sol

wide awake in the after dark
with all the usual players

the wolf with his cool stance
dressed in a zoot suit
snapping his beatnik fingers
wooing the maiden night

the lynx with a fluid stride plays
the ground like bongo drums
negotiates the air like brushes on snares

a choir of flyers lend their songs

there is a chasm of nurtured colours
engulfing me in its rich deep tones

having stood here longer then i know
i inhale my time in tiny puffs

i am void of the sanity i once possessed
i happily dismissed that blurry concept a long time ago
it is you know an overrated attribute

time moves with a second hand like a plane propeller
i live every moment as fully as my strength allows

all the living at the river and its surrounding land
add their breath to the natural air of the eventide

i breathe in the chill of the nightfall air
and i

i wait at the river for the cry of the loon

The days that brought me here

I thought I would go backwards
Into my uncertain
My awkward
The days of my wondering
What will I be when I grow up?
Will I ever grow up?
Is everyone better than me?
Boy I wish I could be more like that
That guy
Yep him
The athletic confident one
Words come so easy to him
Jokes flow freely from his lips
And they laugh
They love being with him
What's it like to be that self assured?
He has so many friends
None of them would ever talk to me
What would it be like to hang out with the cool kids?
I try telling myself
It doesn't matter
I have a few friends
I want it to be enough
I think it's enough
With them
I imagine and pretend
To be funny
Interesting
Until
One smile
One chuckle at a time
I gradually become me
A better more confident self
Assured
Witty
A lover of words
Dialogue
Conversation
I talk my way towards my future
While listening for clues
Building myself two by twos
Real friends are the ones I choose
Their words
Teach me about them and myself
I don't hide on lonely street
There are more people to meet
So I jump up off my seat
Rewrite myself on many a sheet
Until I can follow and hear my internal beat
Do what needs doing
Repeat and repeat
Until I come to here and now
Breathless with WOW
Understanding HOW
That uncertain and awkward part
Changed everything
It still is
And
Always
Will be
An important part of me
Because it helped me see
There are many many
Incredible
Significant and individual
ways to be
So now I choose
Care Free!

A New Love Found

DEDICATED TO EVERY PERSON WHO QUESTIONED THEIR SELF WORTH BECAUSE SOMEONE THEY LOVED LEFT THEM Love grabbed me by the throat with both hands Choked away the doubt and hatred of broken bands Kicked me in the gut and flung me to the floor Stripped my ego and jolted my awareness at its core Cleared the cobwebs that once clouded my vision with strokes of a master nature painted my mission An oil based one of a kind classic My life written like a movie an epic Love lives in me again like a revelation amen Beauty, glows from every centimeter that is me hope hip hops in every stride as I walk briskly Music walks to my beat now I hear it everywhere and the bluest of skies high fives me bare A new love found a trust abound. for the first time in since I don’t know when my senses breathe the fresh view of now and then Blessed by the mother of all that lives Nature smiles on a union that always gives I love what I see Finally I love me! Life is a Dance

Sometimes life is such a bore we run on automatic;
Then it’s time to tango for a dash of the dramatic.
Or when things are dull and only gusto will suffice,
We cha-cha or calypso to inject a dose of spice.

We hustle off to work each morning, foxtrot through the day
And hope that time’s electric slide just melts the hours away.
At clock-out time we say goodbye and jitterbug on out;
We hokey-pokey home because that’s what it’s all about.

Some easy days we waltz on by; we’re caught up in the swing
And lindy-hop or tap our way through all that life can bring.
We may go round in circles or, to deal with our despair,
Find someone we can partner with and do-so-do with flair.

For life is like a dance and we are held within its sway;
We dip and twirl and fake the steps, from polka to ballet.
The music of the atmosphere imbues us with its beat
And if we choose to hear it, we just follow with our feet.

Tin Foil Hearts

On pensive planes of wraith-like existence,
Are stoic shadows feigning affection;
Crimson lips of withering consistence,
Have lost their craze for craving confection.

Tear-filling prisms tilling a rueing sphere,
Pathos prowling, pity's wild and roaming;
Reminisce wind-blown is tumbleweed drear,
Bathos like bramble bur clings in gloaming.

Tin foil hearts' echo sad droning down-beat,
Rose petal ballet two rust figurines;
Today's gray sleet does douse yesteryears' heat,
Apathy's ennui directing the scenes...

Love once aflare in fanfare marigold,
Lies now a wizened weed, dried and stone cold.

My Heart Beseeches An Answer In Collaboration With Robert J Lindley

(Part One- She Asks)

I awakened slowly stretching my body, then into a yawn,
My sleep filled mind remembers you left before the dawn!

Reaching beside me feeling only coolness of my sheet,
Alone now the rain outside hits the ground in rhythmic beat.
The fresh cool breeze whispers through my open window,
Catching billowing curtains into a back and forth show.

Caressing like cold dead fingers upon my naked skin,
Traveling back in time which I know I had let you in.
Our words danced in tango style, each one held a line
Glasses raised to our lips, we sipped succulent red wine.

I awakened slowly stretching my body, then into a yawn,
My sleep filled mind remembers, you left before the dawn!

Soon after we laid together, right here on my bed,
Oh why didn't I stop us then, to turn you away instead?
Now I lay here thinking, as an ache overwhelms my chest,
Gave you what I swore no more, gave you my very best.

Wishing for an answer,on this cold, wet, cloudy day.
How much more my bleeding heart will have to pay?
For allowing this intrusion into my life again I did dare,
Yet I have no answer, of how much or even if you care.

I awakened slowly stretching my body, then into a yawn,
My sleep filled mind remembers you left before the dawn!
~~ ~~ ~~
(Part Two- He Answers)

How could I, truly be deserving of such an angel as you
When fear of that impossibility hit so hard, away I flew!

My darling, fear not, my racing away has a most just cause
I woke that morn, your angelic beauty gave me pause.
For my life had for decades fallen into the deepest dark
Then my finding you and our first night together left its mark.

As I looked in the mirror and saw me lying next to you
My heart almost burst, knowing it was too good to be true.
There you were, naked and your alluring beauty sublime
I thought of my past, how if it hurt you, would be a crime!

How could I, truly be deserving of such an angel as you
When fear of that impossibility hit so hard, away I flew!

That morn, I gave my sleeping beauty a sweet kiss
Trying to grab more of what I would soon so dearly miss.
For I could not bear to bring into your sweet life my pains
Or darkness of the dreams emerging from my past stains!

For you see, long ago, for another beauty I once shot a man
I was so crazy in love and thought that was a great plan.
Then our night, soft kisses restored, your gentle touch fired me up
I found my saving paradise, complete with its full golden cup!

How could I, truly be deserving of such an angel as you
When fear of that impossibility hit so hard, away I flew!

Held aloft

We'd laid old George to rest the week before,
at ninety-one he now rejoined his wife,
no heirs to his estate, so one thing more
to do, and that's clear where he'd spent his life.
Downstairs had been quite easy, George was neat,
his things all had a purpose, neatly stored,
for tidiness this home was hard to beat
all clean and dusted, nothing was ignored.
It seemed almost that since his wife passed on
his solemn duty was to keep a shrine,
no other purpose now that she had gone,
he spent each day just sat, biding his time.
A plain and simple man, a life lived long
but opening a hatch proved we were wrong.

Met with a cold shaft of descending air
and particles of dust caught in the light
I climbed up while my friend steadied the stairs
feet dangling then disappeared from sight.
The torchlight didn't lie, I'd been deceived,
expecting just to find an empty space,
instead I stared unable to believe
how much there was in such a tiny place.
Now, yes, I would expect a Christmas tree
and Golf clubs that had long since seen a round,
a failed attempt at home brewing, maybe
and pictures he thought lost but never found.
But hidden in a tired old briefcase
were things well hid that old George couldn't face.

Tied in a green silk ribbon, slightly frayed
letters to him from his loving Maureen
about over the years the plans they'd made,
a little odd, since his wife's name was Jean.
A small cardboard box held a simple note
with medal and a ribbon tucked inside
thanking him, someone's wife had briefly wrote,
for being with her husband when he died.
I sat and read, transfixed, beside the hatch
the commendation from his high command
for acts of courage, mentioned in dispatch
in battles fought across Tunisia's sands.
It seems for these few things George had no use,
the man who wouldn't say 'Boo' to a Goose.

No time to dwell on this, I carried on,
my eyes attracted to a wooden box
the thing that caught my eye as torchlight shone
was that the lid had far too many locks.
This was no safe, a simple wooden crate
that otherwise one wouldn't think about
easy to break but did such locks dictate
that what was in there wasn't coming out?
A screwdriver was all it took to break
the brass hinges and hasps around the lid,
this liberty I was about to take
I suddenly was sorry that I did.
I paused for breath and let some moments pass
my preconceptions shattering like glass.

Swaddled within a crocheted woollen shawl
doll-like but skin with a leathery feel
chin touching knees curled up into a ball
at first glance, just a toy- but this was real.
she looked maybe, oh, three months old, I guessed,
and judging by the romper suit, a girl,
in cheery pinks and white she lay there, dressed
with matching bonnet hiding wispy curls.
Horror and disbelief fought for control,
recoiling, heart rate now in overdrive,
a stark realisation gripped my soul
that George knew of this when he was alive.
This open box no longer could disguise
the George we thought we knew was built on lies.

Composure now regained, I reached inside
and gently pulled the card out from her hands
on which the feelings mother had to hide
were written for someone to understand.
“ I had my child in nineteen fifty two
but out of wedlock gave birth secretly
they would have taken her, what could I do?
She's all I had and was the world to me.
I moved away and found another place
a dingy hole, so damp, not very nice
one night I woke and saw her pallid face
and realised for this she'd paid the price.
In case folk find out she must stay unseen,
Please take care of her, George, my love- Maureen.

The loft now cleared is empty, hatch is closed,
Golf clubs and barrels gone to garage sales,
the picture frames, well, I hung on to those
and good dish cloths and towels still tied in bales.
The medals and dispatches soon will sit
within a glass case for the world to see
since they're a recollection truly fit
for such a hero no-one knew but me.
And what of the secret letters? They're all gone
ashes to ashes, as they surely must.
Child's memory will no longer live on,
returned now to the ground to turn to dust.
no trace left for the future, no more proof
that there were two Georges under one roof

Essence of love collaboration with Vijay Pandit

What is a man without the woman he loves, searching for his lady like lonesome doves. As his heart connects with the one he adores, his soul will yearn to meet upon any shores. When he comforts her mind with a loving grace and the love of his life begins to reign his space, nothing is ever the same, for she sets him aflame. As the rhythm of her heart resonates his name. He will whisper romantic musings - so sweet, as her elegance makes his heart skip a beat. He'll soothe her pain with his gentleman like charm. Shelter her in his arms from those that cause harm. He hears the sound of every breath she takes, greeting with a pleasant smile as she awakes. Promising a day filled with heavenly dreams, embracing longingly as her happiness gleams. Promising to deliver, receiving messages she sent, he'll bring her the moon if that's what she meant. Sacrificing his life, gallantly to conquer every climb, searching for what she wants till the end of time. Through the window of her soul he explores deep, banishing all demons that cause her to weep. Polishes her heart to prevent it from rust, making sure his diamond does not collect dust. A real man loves with his soul, not eyes of lust. Shows her loyalty and builds a loving trust. He can see their unborn children in her eyes, as they embrace he knows where their future lies. Slave

Like a herd of cattle, placed on a ship.
Upon my back, I felt their whip!
Ripping into my flesh, excruciating pain.
Forced across the big water on a trip.

Living in darkness with little to eat.
The feel of chains around my feet.
Amidst tortured cries, the ship did shake.
Waves pounded the hull with relentless beat.

Only once a day, would we see the sky.
Huge sails, caused the ship to fly.
Further and further away from my home.
Feeling confused not understanding why!

A white devil, steered the wooden ship.
All his mates evil with scabbed putrid lips.
Yet we, depended on them for our lives.
Without them, into the ocean we'd slip.

The journey long, felt like an eternity!
I longed to be anywhere but on the sea.
My mind occupied with thoughts of my home.
yet, I could not escape this horrible enemy!

Sick and dying were forced to walk the plank.
Then into the cold water they quickly sank.
The sailors laughed, as the last man was tossed!
Their spirits boistered with the rum they drank.

Many days later we finally made land.
A place of stone and wood, I could see no sand.
Crack of the whip, we rose to our feet.
"Off of my ship!"was the devil's final command!

For Verlena's "Writing in a black Perspective" Contest

Story continued for my own pleasure, not part of the entry.

Slave Part Two

Brought in chains, to a raised wooden stage.
Bids tallied carefully, sales written on a page.
That was when I witnessed, a most perfect girl.
Bought by a fat man, she was placed in a cage!

I was up next, I stood still as he bid on me.
"One dollar, gimme two, two dollars, sold for three!"
Then I was taken and locked up in the cage with her.
Together we both dreamt, of one day being free.

Brought to the plantation, in late September.
I worked in cotton fields, until November.
Then I would be purposed, to cutting fire wood.
For cold and snow came, by early December.

In the evening, we were left to be with our kind.
While in the big house, our master dined.
Later at dusk, my angel girl would come.
Her beauty so amazing, she made me blind!

The taste of her body, my rememberance of home.
We gave each other pleasure, when we were alone.
Even though the master, wanted her for only him.
I felt like a free man, when I would hear her moan!

Her pregnant, I wondered if the child was mine?
If I was the father, I would be bound in twine.
Still inside I prayed, that the child belonged to me.
In the end, that would be certainly be fine.

Nine months later, almost to the day.
The love of my life was taken away.
In death our child born, middle of September.
The master's anger, I could not sway.

I was awoken, ripped out of my bed!
He took out a musket loaded with lead.
Finally free, in spirit we both travel.
There are certainly worse things, than being dead!
