Best Aflight Poems
Winter finally moves his lumpen sluggish weight,
Spring is like a shy dryad shivering in his arms
Wind's whippets droop to trifling whine
Sullen rain hisses to a grizzle.
tiny fruit buds swell enough to moisten lips.
First daffodil maidens preen, bright faces so fair!
Chattering swallows check granite grey mortared mansion.
Duck naps snug, beak a chest --- gull floats overhead.
Longer days mean I must leave my snuggly, sleepy daze,
slightly more light; work energies reappear
poetry is laid aside in favour of trimming trees
seething solar heating sound, signals dimly smiling sun.
seed packets eagerly spread out – What to plant this season?
Suddenly, more bees aflight – our crops will be alright!
Another cycle begins!

Bouncing
A rhythm on repeat
Exhaustion heavy
Impossible to admit defeat
Nor to succumb to the pain
Winner is not a title for the weak;
Every action with immense prudence
Adrenaline surging
The comfort of the texture
Beneath my fingertips
Suppressed all that wasn't
The hoop or the ball
Endorphins pervade and taken me aflight
Floating, the rim vastly wider
The length of court shortened
Sweat dripped
Poured from my face
Intensifying, heating the air
Humility all I can taste
As I struggled for my breath
My mind pensive on committing
All my energy to be left
Here on the floor
My escape, my addiction
Where I can leave myself behind
Basketball...
The only love i can call mine

All alone, I stand in the crowd.
All aground, I travel the oceans.
All adrift, I'm stuck in the bog.
All afresh, I'm back in the stale memories of a wasted past.
All aflame, I freeze in the cold recesses of my soul.
All afloat, I founder in the green depths of the still lake.
All accursed, I stand blessed in the temple within.
All asunder, I huddle deep into myself.
All asleep, I wake to legions of false shadows.
All aglow, I blunder amongst the empty darkness.
All aflight, I crash into the dense undergrowth of the deep woods beneath.
All across, I turn back and see myself back where I began.

Through a glazed nightfall shimmering on meadows
Gold rays, moontones, widescreen-to-sky entices
When stars bloom freely on southern hour, find me
Tracing dusk's lattice
Catch the mist aflight before the glow withers
While basin of light reaches its finale,
Then my skin will begin to memorize
One nocturnal trail

MID-SPRING
It is mid-May,
Mid the welcome of spring’s changes all
Over the norther hemisphere;
Amid still growing joy with strolls through
Parks and fields, admiring the all
Of after Winter,
And here, still growing in our own ways,
We live:
The long blooming mass of babies (born after 1945);
We,the vigorous, overwhelming, well-meaning,
Once new generation, now with
Slower action or being taken on the avenues
In wheelchairs through
This year’s disturbing Spring
With its news of impending environmental
Crisis, wars, injustice,
And pandemic hatred and illness.
Here I may be seen by the wayside, abloom at
The end of an ambitious, climbing vine of
Morning Glory. There! Off the topmost
Dried-throughout branch
Of a magnificent, ancient, gnarly tree,
Which cradles me
I pray from here ——
Hanging confidently at the tip
Of Glory’s vine,
Against the mid-day’s sun at its highest. So,
Squinting, maybe see me against
The blanched-blue sky,
Ever close to the promise of God —
Dangling, reaching
On sweetly…down, trying
To keep a longer hold
Onto my rising fragrance.
The full area of my petals’ centers appears
Still whiter than the higher clouds, despite
My contours maybe trying to edge brown
And curl.
In the traveling breezes, I do not always
Even seem to feel my pleasant bobbing
On these warmer airs;
Nor with each dawn do I seem to feel
Quite as bright, or light or spry.Yet
To and in Nature’s eye, I
Remain here aflight
— Even ‘tho, yes, on a vine,
Observing the earth, keen
For the surprise
Of some sprout bursting
With awesome strength
To push aside then out
Free from under a stone,
Using its force against the greater mass,
In a motion
To find its unique
Space of light for life.

While

flutter
in rhythm,
swans twirl a ballet
girdling through agile quills aflight
and pivot in choreography of glazed moondance
till wings leave at finale's point when icy November appears on a graywashed stage.

Touch the rising mist of cherry smiles
Herald cries of joyous miracles aflight,
Echo brisk allure of God’s spearing light
Cry in the bosom of Abraham’s seed
Refrain the ways of fame and greed;
Yield to peace though hate overrules
Intimidate the wicked with warm arms
Negate adversarial luck and vain charm,
Glorify the brooks flowing quietly still
Rise early...saturate thy heart with prayer
Inquire of strangers who hunger and thirst,
Verily your works of love shall surely rise first
Entertain the need of God’s angels unaware
Rejoice in eternity from life’s pain and tear.

Darkly glancing dragon eyes
Dancing pools of fiery light
Sparkling gems witched from the skies
Emerald, pearl, and ruby bright
Opal, sapphire, amethyst
Coyly blend their crystal beams
Diamond spheres by heaven kissed
Doorways to a thousand dreams
Wild -- undreampt since Ancient Time
When the dragon ruled the night
Words were Magick, Music, Rhyme
Bardic songs set hearts aflight
Man and Woman ruled as Kings
In that Golden Paradise
Soaring high on dragon wings
'Til the snow-white moon would rise
Gone -- Lost in Night's endless deeps
Yet its phantom-image lies
Where the waiting dragon sleeps
Deep within your dragon eyes.

Light Verse
One summer’s eve in Spain,
I fled through an open window,
Butterflies aflight
In the very pit of me,
And I tramped the streets,
My heart abrim
With such a love,
But a love now long gone.
With my final matches,
I forged a heart
At that maiden’s doorstep;
I was like a thief,
On that torrid night,
My heart abrim
With so much love,
But a love now long gone.
And what of the maiden in azure?
O! What an inferno raged
Within my soul for her,
But that love
Never bloomed beyond a dream,
My heart abrim
With such a love,
But a love now long gone.

A DISTANT LAND YOU SEEK
AWAY FROM YOUR MOTHERS ARMS
NOW SEE WHAT PRIZE YOUR PRIDE
HAS GIVEN YOU
A BITTER PAIN OF WORTHLESS GAIN
NOW YOU STAND AWRY WITH SHAME
AND MAIMED
LOST IN AN ISLAND OF AN ANCIENT TALE
YOUR FRIGHT SEEMS LIKE AFLIGHT OF
ENDLESS WOES
BOUND TO DIE A DAY BEFORE
BLOOD OF AGES STAY ALIVE
YOUR LAND AWAITS YOUR HUMBLE STEPS
THE ROOTS OF YOUR JOURNEY STILL LIES
AWAKE
A MAMA’S ARMS FAR OUTSTRETCHED
TO RECEIVE YOU BACK HOME ONCE AGAIN
SEE THE FACES AWAITING YOUR COME
NOT TO SHARE YOUR WEALTH BUT THE
WORSE
OF YOUR ERRAND OF A THOUSAND MILES

She glides in splendour along the fields
with orange lace on rafters,well-hued
by fragrant air as her waltzes roam
to dazzle boughs thrilling a night's mood.
On fancy tones, her music drools
in rhythmic shimmer of wings aflight
and she draws me towards a bright stage
unto a rung of midsummer's height.
Yet, when dusk floats with her velvet trail
short-lived, the butterfly flutters by
descending to rest on maple's palm;
I weep for a beauty's swift goodbye.

The sun in the sky drew my attention
I gazed into it like my lover's eye
The moment was perfect for retention
And I could do naught but just watch and lie.
Then daydreams took hold and I was aflight.
Clouds parted just to allow me access
And I was airborne straight into the night.
Where else could I go but towards success?
My eyes were on fire with the light of day,
And naturally you just stayed on my mind
The time we spent was the typical way
In which our love will impossibly bind.
So just allow this perfect bliss to last:
Like still, sweet lips that brushed mine in the past.

Seven and two all aflight.
Heros of a triad banner.
All fighting toward one goal,
HOME.
They think of it daily,
as they do their business
of being warriors.
We are like them,
in that we want,
the same things in life,
Safety and security.
Only, they stand for it.
Proud and tall,
their lives cut short,
like so many,
by a smokey tailed demon.
To the firery earth they plunged,
uncontrolably, they scatter upon the rocks,
life ended,
