Best Absolve Poems
Atrocious affliction trembles voices of anguish
Brewing vile horror in death of tomorrow
Fearing for the newborn, women, and children
For yesterday’s massacre killed her husband
And the war-torn town screamed in agony
Wrapped in rags of shattered hopes,
Quivering hearts of disassembled valor
Incapable to assuage a hapless mother’s sorrow.
A lone crow caws atop heaps of rubble
Amplifying appetency for affinity of life,
Abjuring the blood thirsty hiding in disguise
To rob any remnants of civility and pride
From dismantled lives, walking shoeless,
Upon splintered glass littered in broken paths
When pigeons too left the desolate grounds.
Dreams once auspicious acquiesce to nightmares
Within awry silence of a burning dawn
As the allure of a new day inconsolably cries
When her only surviving child dies in her arms.
Divinity won’t absolve them of despicable sins,
That echo from playgrounds, shuttered bakery shops,
And the shrieks of families mingling in market
Where aroma of fresh bread once permeated air
And warmth of hot tea glasses greeted the day.
Wary footsteps march slowly to the other side:
It’s a bit safer there where a wedding is planned--
They don’t yet know, the young groom has died,
In a senseless war lost in poverty of thoughts.

REVISED OCTOBER 16, 2019
New Jersey’s cloven-hoofed devil
makes his way to the jetty
beneath the blanket of twinkling stars, anguish unabated
his appetency growing stronger each day
her song rose like mist upon salty tide
creating an irresistible allure
perhaps a mermaid so fair
can be the auspicious boon he badly needs
he calls to her, certain she will listen again
as she has done so many nights before
his soul’s torment she has learned to alleviate
patiently, she clings to one boulder, waiting
for she alone can absolve him of past misdeeds
she motions for him to draw near
“Kiss me now,” she begs,
“Before anything more can go awry.”
he moves toward her, still in atrocious devil form
holding fast to the rocks as a storm approaches
perhaps this time their magical kiss
will forever end his loneliness

another somber rise of day through autumn's reign
where clouded thoughts backslide through eyes
while the anguish of my pain lies misted in the lash of october's skies
i watch as the breeze strips color from these trees
crimson drops aloft on the awry path, downward in spirals
like a child's mind trying to find assuage from life's affliction
through atrocious little lines carved upon shrouded flesh
in an auspicious attempt to find relief, momentarily unrestricted
sometimes i long to be like the leaves of autumn, spun golden
twirling in the allure of whispered breezes, adrift in the winds
carefree on the jaunt of life of these memories that taunt
other times, the appetency to be the tree is greater in depth,
to be bare, weightless and absolve the heaviness of life's burdens
as you cast them downward in wayward winds to their death
while your roots remain grounded, although twisted, still stand firm
sometimes i'd like to see the beauty in october through other's eyes
to glow in the dawn of my day, not shiver in its winded breath
beneath the grays of skies, where all i can see is impending death
in the season's foreshadow as the leaves slip like blood through hands

To truly love myself- this I resolve
To guard with zeal my tenderness of heart
Of every sin and doubt myself absolve
And fortify and strengthen every part
To cherish and accept the inner me
To know and relish every single dream
The woman that I am, to set her free
To put aside each hindrance to love’s theme
I do resolve to be my dearest friend
To celebrate the wonders that I own
To spend time in my world and not pretend
To shine around the goodness I’ve been shown
A short time have I left to truly shine
And thus I vow to make my living fine

Sonnet
"the anguish of grief leaves me with an appetency and yearning for peace . . . "
the allure of love was enchanting
the promise between us a delicate flower
love was like a guest unbidden
well-timed and auspicious
for my heart was a ravaged garden
and you knew how to soothe and calm me
how to assuage my fears
and the scars on my soul faded
we lay cuddled 'till the crack of dawn
sometimes you would look at me awry
with a crooked smile
and your laughter was music for my soul
now . . . I hang my head like a wilted rose
and the memory of time is my heavy cloak
for I am broken since that dreadful day
the pain atrocious and brutal
you left me for heaven and I scream why . . .
the wind blows in trees like the wail of violins
and I stand in the summer, the fall, the winter
and spring staring at your engraved name in stone
and the clouds float in the sky
and the birds sing me a sad and dreamy song
for years and years I have been chained to your tomb
but today, I absolve me
I set me free . . .
and I forgive you, my love for leaving
'cause I understand that it was not yours for the choosing
but had been written . . . in the book of time

I sat in church listening to the preacher
Without hearing a single word he said
I was thinking about the football scores
And my favorite team instead
As they passed around the collection plate
I put my money in
Wondering just what was the going rate
To have God absolve you of your sin
When it came time to share a sign of peace
I turned to the pretty lady in the red dress
Giving her my most pious smile
Trying real hard to impress
I shook the preacher’s hand at the door
Saying I loved his sermon that day
Anxious to get out of my tie
And to be on my merry way
As I stopped at the traffic light
With the windows down in my new car
A homeless man walked up to me
And started talking real bizarre
He said, “You know there’s nothing special about Sundays
Nothing special about the building they call a church
By simply going through the ritual
You don’t improve what your soul is worth”
“If you would rather be watching football games
You can talk to me some other time when you are free
And twenty dollars in a collection basket
Doesn’t buy your soul out of poverty”
“That lady in the red dress
Is much too young for you
And you have to fix the relationship you are in
Before moving on to someplace new”
The cars were honking from behind me
Because the traffic light was green
I turned around to shout at them
Then turned back and that man was nowhere to be seen
I drove the rest of the way home in a haze
Wondering if I imagined the whole scene
But when I turned on the football game
That man was in a commercial on my screen
“So think about the words I said
And talk to me on your own time
In a location of your choosing
When you are in the right frame of mind”
“I am always available to hear you
And provide guidance along the way
But the outcome of these football games
Is not a thing for which to pray”
So, I gave up church on Sundays
And I donate to other charities instead
And today I am a more religious man
Always conversing with God inside my head

Learning to love myself has not been an easy task for me. Oh, it was easy when I was younger....perhaps I was overconfident then. Now, I have my good days and my bad days...days when self-loathing sets in and I find it hard to want to go on. I have learned...the hard way, that if you don't care for and cherish yourself, if you don't guard your dreams, if you don't look out for yourself, then no one will. It's a fact of life. You need to be confident and secure in who you are and what you have to offer. No matter how many times people tell you you are beautiful, no matter how often people tell you you are talented, no matter how many words are written in your praise, if you do not love yourself, you are unable to accept and believe and hope in the reality of these words. I'm not there yet, but I don't have much time to put this love into action. A healthy love of self is necessary. Christ said, "Love your neighbor...AS YOURSELF: (as you love yourself). I wish I had learned this sooner. I try to instill it in my daughter....this belief in oneself. I'm so glad that she is a confident, beautiful, and self-possessed woman. I can live on through her. Thank you all for your kindness to me. Thank you for loving me, when I've been difficult to love. May God bless you one and all. HUGS

Knowing what she knew
she let them misconstrue
and righteous was her smile
it made her feel worthwhile
Knowing what she knew
Knowing what she'd seen
She wasn't really keen
to be played like the rest
she'd passed the hardest test
Knowing what she'd seen
Knowing what she'd heard
She kept alive the word
that gave her solace sweet
with pride the day to greet
Knowing what she'd heard
Knowing truth from lies
she saw past hungry eyes
Kept firm her strict resolve
her conscience to absolve
Knowing truth from lies

A beauty of the finest splendor…captivating
Seizing the rooms attention on the inhale
Now a shrinking shell of her former self
Caught in a chemical coma to ease her pain
Murmuring fate in silences void…foreboding
Her eyes not seeing the milieu’s approach
Those illusory walls protection now ravaged
She stands naked before bereavements eyes
As the nights pass I sit at her bedside…steady
No corollary thought as the clock keeps pace
I allay the fear by a whisper looking for lucidity
While her random gasps for life squeeze within me
Soft regrets for the misery I’ve caused…repentant
Adrift in the words I bellowed in toxic anger
Yearning to drink of the venom washed over you
To share one moment in the clarity of forgiveness
The scent of a spring dawn’s beauty fills the air…mocking
Stroking your hair I stutter out my final goodbye
Ready to be chained to the morose you absolve me
Taking with you my weighted anguish with simple words
Mom opened her eyes one last time and said…I love you too…

“Precept”
Death’s reign is but a world of carnal minded concepts,
Within which illusions of it own harlot are kept,
As minds counterfeit the Sacred Hearts of the precept,
In containments of worldly forms of the mind’s inept!
My precept withstood this selfish whore’s galore… to the face,
As she sought to hid herself in complexity’s mace,
I gained a new precept face, standing against concept’s disgrace,
As economic whore sought to remove truth by it's fast pace!
Death concepts thereof are conveniences of the mind’s absolve,
As compassions of grace, of brotherly face, are not involved,
Truth is seldom heard in this world of which it’s scribes resolve,
Bribes of scribes, politicians have lied, around this they revolve!
The carnal of mind knows not what they do as death pursues,
The goat will gloat, sheep the mind will not promote...bid adieu,
I’ve stood in the gap of mind’s mishap, the gap(!), I construe!
I’ve stood the test, I've earned Father’s rest, I receive my due!
I bid adieu to the death of the stubborn minds astute,
In heaven’s choir, they will never give Gabriel’s flute.. a toot,
The carnal mind just doesn’t compute...the precept acute,
For higher cosmic affair...holds no flair...for brute's pollute!

An I am of Love is precept approved,
Doesn’t need approval of concepts' inept,
Doesn’t need the nod of man/woman, only God,
By precept of love’s absolve soul’s love is kept!
Seeing Love’s being is uncompromising,
Not of double mind concepts non-comprising,
Within one’s own precept love is the comprising,
Will be no rising in the mind’s compromising!
As yeast from the east, bread of life is apprising,
Pending only a few mind’s their realizing,
Of love’s precept which is uncompromising,
Where shall you be(?), at the precept’s advising…
In life’s ascension of illusion’s mountain,
Toward the drinking of your precept’s fountain,
Of clear, free moving waters, life appertain,
Where forever love’s precept shall be obtained!
Since the very dawn of precept’s greatness of spawn,
Parasites of concept’s might, sought the abject wand,
Oh Judas concept, mind inept, precept abscond,
The Stubborn Ox, the metaphor correspond!
The belligerent concept, of elder mind,
In complex darkness, is groping, seeking to find,
Within the whorish darkness first light’s refine,
Out of void of darkness came light, mind was blind!

He was gone for all of that time
No one knew what his life was like
He could have been a thief or murderer
Only God knows all that he’s done
Why would Daddy let him come back home?
He destroyed everyone’s trust
He left here with half of Daddy’s belongings
Where did he live while gone?
No doubt he was with drunkards and harlots
People who live in the darkest thoughts
With only doubt, fear and despair
He was living with the dreaded devils
His life was shadowed by his failures
He shouldn’t have had the nerve to come back
Home, for him, should be off limits
He shouldn’t be allowed to live here anymore
But Daddy killed the fatted calf for him
Gave him the best robe and his ring
Embraced him with a joy that only knows
He is the beloved son, his heart and soul
Why hasn’t he ever killed a calf for me, though?
I asked Daddy why he was going to all this trouble
For a son who had only used and abused him
Given him nothing but worry and strife
Filled his mind with only regret, pain and trials
I asked him why, but Daddy only said…
**“Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.”
So Daddy killed the fatted calf for my brother
My resentful, bitter heart was spurned
But I know my Daddy is filled with pure love
And He loves the prodigal with a spirit
That can only be described as merciful…
Compassionate and tolerant…
Much like the forgiveness that God sends
To the one who repents and believes
His grace is like a light shining through
The soul who knows His love is the treasure
That every prodigal seeks to accept
And, I, the son who was righteous yet resentful
Need his forgiveness just as much
As the roguish prodigal…
All I need to do is ask, and God’s forgiveness
Will reach down and absolve me of my wrongs
I will ask and receive… because, like my Daddy..
God is always GOOD!
**Luke 15: 31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

~they embraced in their dalliance~
her appetency held a depth so deep he just couldn’t
resist placing his hands around her barren waste
(she reaches for him with ardor)
for tonight was auspicious and ebullience showered
them with the twinkles only stardust spreads;
forever scattering allure and passion with strength
and hankering devotion,
sowing their love with intentions of...
savoring each emotion
they conflated as if they were always predestined
to celebrate marriage different from the rest-
the assuage erased the anguish;
what was once atrocious is now emollient
(softer than ivory silk)
when hope goes awry they stand tall side by side,
each wearing pride-
the crookedness of life transformed into candor and
honesty
she decided to absolve her demure nature;
feeding the emptiness with the nourishment of
his reliability and fervency for her brilliant mind
two auras ~kaleidoscopic~
enveloped by heaven's cobalt hues,
desire for love prevails with affection
her felicity swathed his soul,
his serendipity ran through her veins as if she was
sheathed by his charisma;
a sempiternal legacy was left for the coming
generational bonds yet to be formed
love in the making-
saved
two
hearts from breaking

Once enraptured by beautiful Bathsheba’s allure,
my life went horribly awry.
My appentency for control took a very bad turn
after I gave into lust and tried to conceal my awful sin.
I sent Bathsheba’s innocent spouse to the front of a battle,
having him serve in a position not at all auspicious.
My first sin of adultery had multipled into other sins!
Now beset by anguish, I plead with the Lord
to forgive me and show me his great compassion.
I ask Him to assuage my miserable soul
and restore me to salvation.
I suffer here on earth the pains of hell
for my atrocious transgressions.
I beg for God to absolve me.
Forevermore I shall sing praises to my beloved Lord.

Are We Not Brothers, Made From The Same Dirt,
(Tribute to Philip Freneau and his poem,
The Dying Indian)
Are We Not Brothers, Made From The Same Dirt
I welcome you- sweet dawn, soft break of day
As your vibrant voice sounds, seeming to say
Lad, I bid you relief from dark and gray
Feel my coming golden rays and rejoice
So precious life's gift, giving love free voice
Embrace your honor, honor that wise choice-
You are of braver heart, red is your blood
You are red-man, Native pride your soul floods
You hunt ancestral lands, wade tidal muds,
There amidst tall trees, beauty of the glades
You young lad are of pure Native blood made
Spirit must stay strong, as your time soon fades
In dreams, you sail to paradise isles
You race through countryside for miles and miles
Live, soon your tribes will become sad exiles-
As you dare the great beast to your soul fight
Search mysteries that hide truth out of sight
Know that same hungry beast, will your race smite!
Alas! Fate's wicked hands, its evil sends.
Stopping mercy, from which Heaven descends.
I beg mother earth, this carnage avert
Heal dark souls of men, stop such coming hurts
Are we not brothers, made from the same dirt
Do we all not cry, the same red blood bleed
Are we all not sprung from weak mortal seeds
In pain, do we not, to same Father plead-
Will violence and death, your greed absolve
Can we seek to, our differences resolve
Must destruction serve as means to evolve,
Is what will be gained, a treasure to you
Shall we learn to love, same sky's glowing blues
Share life's sweet gems, paying brotherly dues
Walk lit paths, love flowering meadows too-
Live serving peace and discover anew
Enjoy a rainbow's hope, its many hues?
Alas! Fate's wicked hands, its evil sends.
Stopping mercy, from which Heaven descends.
