Avocado

Avocado ??

Avocado in the market square,
every buyer lingers there.
Fingers press to test the skin,
to feel the ripeness deep within,
soft and tender,
So rich and rare.

They want it soft and ripe
Medium soft, not too loose.
"Cut for me," their voices call
I want to see beneath the wall
Others also want to taste
Before they pay and bag a waste.

Many want it fleshy
Big body small seed
Bigger ones are very fatty
Some are very watery
Small ones are tasty
If tendered while ripe.

When cut into halves
And seed put aside
The inside looks nice
Hollow and round,
Warm and oily.
A fruit and a snack

Sweet every time
And along with any food
Even taken alone,
Avocado whets the mouth.
But who buys an Avocado
Without pressing the Avocado?

Premium Member wily willing avocado boys

two wily willing avocado boys
dressed in costume, making lots of noise
danced a ring around my sister
she knows them well, calls one mister
first cousins, known as the two Roys

I saw them from a mile away
these two crazy jokers love to play
did not even roll my eyes
their antics now no big surprise
their costumes funny, green and gay

Premium Member From the Hollow of An Avocado

Sipping champagne from the hollow
of an avocado, on a cactus-lined
         boulevard in St. Looie

   While munching on anchovies
      slathered with salsa, the nerve
         of them calling us screwy

   On the dashboard piled high
were half-empty cruises of gin ...
By the time we crashed the car
into a passing trolley car ~
I swear I saw Busch Brewery spin

Premium Member An Apple

Now an avocado
Is more precious than
An apple
But not in the childhood days
We knew only an apple
The first English word we learnt
The first picture we drew
The fruit mum used to pray to her god
The fruit she handed to us
After worshipping for 15 days
We only learnt that
An apple is soft
But not brittle
An apple has a flat smell
But not a fragrant smell
Now I have an avocado
I won't ask for more
But I won't ever forget
The hand
which handed me
A red apple

Periodic

You wouldn’t know he was A Good Drummer,
Until surfaced the Period of Summer;
You wouldn’t know: Giver of lion’s fight,
Until he felt challenges getting tight;
You wouldn’t know: loved Avocado Pear,
Until you grabbed his and this wouldn’t bear...

You wouldn’t know: could stay outside till mid-night,
Until there was some snake indoors, no light!
You wouldn’t know resents indulgent friend,
Until you saw him cross one and head bend;
You wouldn’t know: could use a liniment,
Until he had surfaced some punishment;
You won’t know: hopes to find his Charisma,
Until he naively like them with Plasma.

Avocado God

that was a rough day
with their aggressive cars
heavy sky of electrical threats
I came back scared from these thorny streets
I need friendly things
through the crack in the window
I saw the static grandeur
of the avocado tree that reigns quietly near here
he watches indifferently as the days crumble
occasionally throws up leaves in the wind
and soon returns to rule the world
like a divine and green organic colossus
always blind I didn't realize
but today I know
it's the trees that matter
and we are vassals viruses protozoa bacteria
minuscule small nulls so don't be amazed:
we're here to feed the trees and nothing else
stop hysteria

Juan Johnnie Avocado Seed

Juan (Johnnie) Avocado Seed
By George W. Clever-----15 September 2020

A migrant boy in California
His only toys were avocado pits
Making castles at the Rancheria
In the dust with the pits where he sits
Until told of a boy who traveled the borders
Planting apple seeds to grow fine orchards

Dreamed of a day when he’d be in demand
Planting huge avocado seeds across the land
For all to share his gift of avocado’s monounsaturated fat
He would be Juan Avocado Seed and that was that

Giving people Guacamole to spread on chips
Sliced garnish on tortillas rice and in their dips
Avocado Mac and Cheese or on pizza Chicago Style
He would be famous as Juan Avocado Seed mile after mile

Unable to leave his Rancheria without a Chevy
The bag of Avocado pits was just too heavy
Yes, the avocado seed, a Creator’s mistake
Its pits too large and heavy he did make

Premium Member If An Avocado

If an avocado had a voice, he'd say, "eat me, I'm an excellent food choice".
If an avocado went to war, his uniform would be green, that's for sure.
If an avocado made a speech from a podium, he would share with his audience that he's low on sodium. If an avocado went to court and took a plea, he'd surly admit to being cholesterol free. If an avocado was wealthy, he'd pronounce that he was so heart healthy. Eating avocados is a win win. There only eighty calories with twenty vitamins.

Avocado

I am mother goddess warrior
protector of the sacred Nisqually water
and the people of this land
I am native crow

I am also avocado
nice to eat and soft
soft to my seed and thick skinned
or is it thin? I don't know

all the time I
shed my skin
feel sweet and feed something

and then regrow

I am an avocado crow

Love That Avocado Green!

Our house was built in 'sixty-eight...bi-level, brick and white.
This was the modern age, and avocado made it bright!
I loved my new appliances in shiny sixties green...
refrigerator, matching stove, fulfilled the new-age scene.

They lasted many years, replaced just once...the find was tough.
But come mid-nineties, luck ran out...no avocado stuff!
Refrigerator died one day...a new one needed fast.
A plain old white one took its place, and I was left aghast!

My faithful stove looked sad without his avocado mate;
His lady fridge was gone, and soon he followed her bad fate!
Oh, how I miss those special days when colors were such fun!
     Now Avocado green's Retro...it's modern era's done.

Pure white or stainless...choice today is dull...great colors lack.
If pendulum should swing again..bring avocado back!

Premium Member The Avocado Craze

Avocados are the latest craze right now
Is it marketing or taste that makes us go wow
Wanting to chow down
In tune with the town
But from this day forward my taste buds say ciao

Avocado

All of the fats are bad
Advocates of health said
Avoid them at all times
Axe down butter and cream
And then they found this fruit
Abound with fat that’s good
Adds cream to my dry food

Premium Member My Avocado Fridge

Our house was built in 'sixty-eight,
a long bi-level, brick, and white.
A retro queen I was those days,
     and avocado made it right.

The kitchen was my favored place –
     appliances in "sixties" green;
refrigerator, matching stove,
     completed well that retro scene.

For many years they lasted well -
and replaced once; the find was tough!
But later on, my luck ran out –
     no avocado kitchen stuff.

The second fridge broke down one day;
a new one had to come real fast.
A plain old white one took its place,
and I was left distressed, aghast!

My retro strove looked lonely, sad
     without its avocado mate;
Its matching fridge, now she was gone –
he knew this soon would be his fate.

Oh, how I miss those retro days!
     Appliance colors were such fun!
That avocado cherished green
refridge and stove, compared to none!

Now stainless, white, is where it's at –
     appliances, their brilliance lack.
Perhaps the pendulum will swing –
     bring retro avocado back!
