Astro Poems

I Have Traveled To The Edge Of The Universe And Back Only Once

I have gone where stars dissolve in violet flame,
Beyond the breathless hush of time and name,
Where silence swells like tides beneath the skin,
And nothing waits to let the light begin.

The galaxies bent low to let me pass—
Each one a frozen bloom of shattered glass.
I listened for a voice, a breath, a bell,
But all was still,

Astro Sighs

People really don't give an hoot
When errant angels get the boot
Unlike a cat
They just go splat
And nary a soul says they're cute!

Mitch McConnell knows how we feel
Now he's found Climate Change is real
But - with a fist-bump -
Replied Donald Trump,
"Well, its my JD; we'll appeal!"

Astro-Nought

I never said I was dead.
I never claimed I was real.
I never saw you as a great.
I only tried to feel.

I couldn’t help you in space.
I’m way too far away from love.
I remember your tear-stained face.
I am giving up.

I never believed down there.
I never believed up here.
I never seemed to care.
I only saw what was

For the SON has come down

A stone turned up
where no stones turned up
where stones turn up,
where we dug today...

A stone turned up
when no stones turned up
where stones turn up,
when we dug today...

Maybe if you saw it with
my eyes, and from my
cracking heart...Maybe if you
held it in my shaking hands,
maybe if you saw it through my
steaming tears...
Maybe if you saw

It's six days since
the Hole was dug...

First frost clings now
to newly turned earth,
to shunted sod,
to stones, to pebbles.

A grave grows colder
today than yet it's been...
Hearts grow busy, too.
Supplanting last images
with happier ones.
The heart and mind curate
a story to tell and re-tell;
to tell ourselves. To hold back
the ghosts.

Astro Poetry

Planet diving the galaxy,
Moon shoes on it's a moonwalk,
Give me love and show me love,
You can tag along on this trip,
We can gaze the universe for fun,
Count the moons for time,
We can have the whole of worlds to ourselves,
We can reach if we believe,
Teleport to places no

And the Rest is...Restful/Restless

tonight

At last, he sleeps
beneath the stars and,
for once, beneath the grass.

tonight

at last, she sleeps
beneath the stars and
for once, above her horse.

tonight

One sleeps peacefully
one, fitfully.
One free,
one free of free.

tonight

Both sleep.

tomorrow

One rises,
one sleeps

a mother,
her horse.

tonight
One dreams of tomorrow.
tonight
One dreams of yesterdays.

I'm here tonight
to stand in the ache.
The ache of hollow,
the empty of the not
simply empty; rather,
the empty of the
recently full.

The silent ache of
missingness, of quiet.
Before the ghosts have
risen, before the
memorial stones are
set. Before the cards arrive.
Before the flowers
are vased to wilt.

I'm here tonight
to stand in the ache.
Of what so recently had
been.
Of who

Premium MemberThe Death of a Horse, the Birth of Memory

The rain didn't fall
last night so much
as it was thrown.

The wind didn't blow
last night so much
as it was whipped.

And a whip is
a thing which
lacerates, it cuts.

The day after
was the last day
and the next days
will be filled with
no more and no longer
until the next days
outnumber the
here-with-us days
and the days after those
days will pile on,
...
