Athena

A bold warrior goddess
Aided Odysseus
As he murdered Trojans
Adjusts Medusa to
A scary Gorgon, FREEZE
Aptly spins perfect web
Arachne can’t surpass.

FLINCHING

           I am sure to flinch
      when flying cockroach approaches me.

In zoo, I always avoid the zone of snakes.
      Snakes moving spirally
shake my body inch by inch.

I am sure to flinch if I descry
            a spider close to me.
If it crawls or runs, I am sure to yell or cry.
              Arachne phobia
             is my worst weakness.

I think, if I meet a tiger in front with mouth agape
           and see snake at back
with cockroach and spider on both sides,
I will rush to tiger to escape.

I Am But a Poetry God

Who would date a poet?
And have her name grow,
As a garden's eden history,
Have her lips comply with ink that smear'd,
Ears breed on a poultry of recitations,
A fun-fare of words abridge.
**
Maidens wish all to be,
Such from his gourd of honour shall you drink in perissos,
Such from his robe, and by all tongues,
Shall your name convert'd,
A new age of fame,on a beauty brick,
A spade a spade,
The new beauty queen!
**
Then minds might date back to Venus;
Beauty-borne of Dione,
And non to dare you to a contest,as Arachne,
But in Argo, you and me will thrust,
When our ears begin to drown by Arion's love song,
What more an odyssey do lasses crave!
**
And if by the phoenix of Astarte you wish,
Then thy trust is mine a pleasure,
Cook not a phobia of distrust,
Grab my hands as heartily,
For I am Apollo, god of these bleeding lines.

Arachne

ARACHNE

Athena,
Goddess of Wisdom
In the heavenly arena,
Weaver of skill
Was believing
That none could match
The beauty of her weaving.
But a young mortal maid, Arachne,
Showed weaving of matching beauty.
So enraged by this travesty
Of equally beautiful tapestry,
Athena, no longer able to abide her
Turned her into a spider*
Whose webs of splendor
She yet does render.
I know this to be true, for one day
Arachne, sitting besider
Did thus confide her
Before scaring Miss Muffet away.

                                                 * Spider, of the order Arachnid, having
8 legs; weaver of magnificent webs.

A Transitory Existence, An Eternal Quintessence

My tenant body constitutes a lease,
A rented fabric owed to landlord Time,
From smoothened silk to wrinkled leather’s crease,
This shuttled thread is bound in deed to grime.
My mind he stakes a vested interest in,
Its vibrancy is forced perforce to fade,
The stain of Lethe’s dull oblivion
Shall wash and sink this mind in murky shades.

Immortal dyes Arachne used to draw,
(While mortals die unraveled, naked, sheared)
Her strings contested Nature’s with their awe,
Art’s golden wool outwears the looming Weirds.
This trunk of life is tailored for a fashion,
Yet timeless wove is art’s transcendent passion.

Choice of Arachne

Echo left her voice in Arachne's web
And went to Doctor Day for her throat swab
                                       The spider ate her voice
                                      That was Arachne's choice
She was arrested for her ugly job

Ode To Arachne

Lustrous black hangs over pale skin
Gleaming green under deities sight
Wheeling toes transfer lanolin
Watchers skill shadows this neophyte
Who's damning dexterity draws in
The old woman watching weaving
Whispering advice to halt spokes
But fibrous boasts offend mountain
War horns sound an electric warning
Arachne's eyes roll with faster strokes

Athena whets sharp javelin
Circling pressure spills lymphocyte
An emerald eyed grimalkin
Issuing challenge instead of a fight
To save face in front of kin
Anxiously she begins fabricating
Charring wood, wisping smoke
Arachne remembers old sin
Clean fingers start recording
Twenty one episodes to provoke

Woven lust impregnates linen
Details capture birthright
Divine lashes flicker, flecking venin
Mortal legs levitate, threads snap and choke
Defiant victory from the coffin
Punished and reborn with aconite
To appease her guilt for relaxed reign
Arachne is transformed and hanging
Always spinning; a masterstroke

Arachne's Triumph

You cause my breath to still
Arachne.
Your handiwork of splendid intricacy
Suspended from the armpits of nature,
vividly displayed through the unfolding mist,
holds me in this moment.
Adornments of the ancient bushland,
Your labour of survival, purposefully created,
Surpass any mortal attempts of mimicry.
Mocking Minerva’s intention of entrapment
You continue triumphantly
Weaving delicate decorations,
Catching acclamation afresh.
