Pulled to align
The pendulum argued.
But the plumb bob knew
what's right and not contrite.
To be poised, centered,
upright, steadfast, sure
adroit, proud but not trite.
Dangling right on
the plumb bob line,
a pendulum perpendicular
pondered,
then answered
to prim and proper,
with ample sufficiency
now certain.
Gravity assured,
swings swung, spun run,
seesaw done,
all daft drafts
exhausted,
the bob plumbed
to settle on
aplomb.
purple plum is sweet—
its peace ripens in tart skin,
when love softens core
to blush in understanding
that mercy is sweet-tart bled

She was thin as a reed and straight as a stick
her figure a pencil, a frail candle wick
Head bowed, she would walk the halls of high school
shamed by firm-breasted girls, oh-so-cool
Yet her Mom stayed composed, an oasis of calm
told her daughter, "Lay low now," with perfect aplomb
Fighting back tears, the young lady assented
with her heart tied in knots, truly tormented...
Years passed, sure enough, the daughter had bloomed
the most beautiful co-ed in any university room
Yet her Mom stayed composed, and with perfect aplomb
reminded her daughter to remain very calm, for
Beauty's only skin-deep; one's looks someday fade
Life tests those fibers that are not ready-made
Meek words seek
Chimes bridge rhymes
Peak verse streak
Mime good times
Fate greets date
Light charms bright
State and slate
Sight moves flight
Brook fond looks
Pace deep trace
Book sure hook
Space kind face
Greet most sweet
Show that grows
Meet zest neat
Know peace flows

At some time you must have met one,
an academic gentleman.
Though once a whippersnapper,
he's cultured, suave and dapper,
That mustache of his so pert,
his eye for a pretty skirt.
and then his neat bow-tie
which makes the ladies sigh.
He has such a winning way.
He always says 'Good Day.'
They say his grading's fair,
and, these days, that's rare.
He has one nasty knack,
stabbing rivals in the back.
When he does someone wrong,
at least it's with aplomb.
Condemn his spite and bile?
Yes, but - oh. my - what style!
Poise wears sure style
To cast fond smiles
Aplomb now books
A primal hook
Choice knows that face
In vivid trace
Charm simply shows
A feisty glow
Cheer gathers grace
To sketch fine trace
Aplomb sets wit
In ample fit
Poise knows a thrill
In how joy spills
