Brolley Hit

Brolley Hit
Give me something small
No big bomb or aircraft carrier needed
A little virus on the tip of a pin
Ready to inject you viral death
Not fall down dead a few days
Starts with a fever then more
Doctor thinks it’s a cold or flu
It's a bit more serious but shhh!
Don't alert the authorities
Before the operative escapes
Another KGB hit on a scientist
More Cold War superpower woes
Daggers in the dark jab a scientist
On a Manchester bridge with a brolley
How else to stop the weapon programs?

Mystical Rose H Plane

Mystical the Rose
A day 1 day came to me
Without a single thorn adorned
whom nature's bird's and bees flock to

When summer fragrant idol care's
it's fruit and petals to lay bare

And her wing's whilst flying bye
whispered carefree into both
of my long deaf waxy ears

Via the gift of choral chord hummingbird song
Come fly away with me to a higher plane

I'll be your poetic fighter pilot maverick
and you can be my trusted wing man
mother goose

Needed in order so we can both land
aboard the aircraft carrier flight deck

Emblazoned with the befitting name
Higher-Plane of Mysterious Nature

Premium MemberThe Early Seventies

The early seventies was rather interesting
one minute hanging out with a pack of wolves
predators of the night... the next... nine weeks in boot camp
on the great lakes in Winter...so cold
then off to a very large aircraft carrier
where I spent the next two years roaming its flight decks
until..." Parker, are you, Parker "
you have fifteen minutes to get off the ship
and thirty days to make it to Memphis, Tenn
for aviation electronics school...problem...yes it was
we were in port in Naples, not Naples Fl, Naples Italy
so off I went to find the NATO base to catch a flight to Spain
but...being the red-blooded American boy I was
I decided to rent a room for two weeks in Naples, Italy
and enjoy the nightlife...so I did just that
after two weeks found NATO, flew to Spain
enjoyed a few days there, then flew to the states
made it to Memphis with a day to spare

A Military Brat

A Military Brat

Before have not been in mortal combat,
And yet still I once was a military brat;
To Mom's dismay,
Did enlist one day;
Wore an Air Force uniform with their hat.

Dad Did Go To Sleep

Dad Did Go to Sleep

Dad did go to sleep
He now lies in ocean deep
While I weep and weep.

My Dad was killed on Aircraft Carrier
Intrepid CNV-11 now in New York
harbor as a museum where a debate
was help. He is now buried in 200 feet
of water off of Sicily. I was 15 and had
3 sisters and two brothers when he died.

Repost of In Memory of Arthur Frederick Horn

Dad Did Die

Why was it really meant to be?
Dad did die serving his country
Me and my family are left alone
Each day when the sun had shone.

I am still so lonely each night
And sad tears off have to fight
Never receiving a one last kiss;
Him forever will always miss.

It is now another Veterans Day again;
My dad was one of many mighty men
Who for country had given his all
And for him one day God did call.

For Parents of Captain Khan

For Parents of Captain Khan

(Thought about Wrath of Khan
when I was writing this.)

Saw many magnificent flowers out front
Which were exactly what we will want
With several tall trees along each side
Next to nice house that in do abide.

Each day great wife cooks a fine meal
I love and to me always does appeal
Make things green shall have to water
Say prayer to God who is my comforter.

Thank you for things that now are mine
And sun and moon which daily shine
Stray stars coming out brightly at night
Delightful day when things were alright.

What else from marvelous God must I ask?
Necessary needed to complete each task
God's love overcoming all my loneliness
Over death of our son who we often miss.

Our son such a perfect example has set
Everyone loved him each time they met
Truly brave soldier and man of all men
Soon we shall see him in heaven again.

Could not come up with a perfect excuse
Why my poems suffered from much abuse
And Poem of the Day are far and few
Difficult to make my dreams come true.

Weaknesses in poems are starting to show
Compared to others standards far below
With a car someone over they did run
First one my me which I had done.

If you can spell, can you still be bound?
To with my poems never mess around
Start, finish and maybe also in between
Or you often could create quite a seen.

Just had another which did seem so sleek
When you peek see mine as Poem of the Week
Now that poem appears to be nice and limber

He Had To Start Crying

He Had to Start Crying

Was terrifying,
So he had to start crying;
People were dying.

The hopes and fears of all the years
Did not create any crocodile tears
Were real as can be each and everyone
What if had been your daughter or son?

Take my hand, walk with me.
I'll show you fragments from my life.
Its broken sidewalks,silently paved by broken souls,
their anger pent up from a world war.
I'll show you soft winters of a child and his sled.
The burden and frustrations of being a teenager,
in the sixties.
A President murdered,water fountains with signs,
blacks only,whites only.
Cities burning, gas rationing, fear of nuclear annihilation.
My shattered dream and short stint as a professional athlete.
My years on an aircraft carrier that sent pilots to war,
to the old man I am today.
I hitch-hiked across the country,a year lost, or a year spent
and asked nothing from any one, except truth.
I care little for those who think themselves important,
it's a waste of energy and it becomes folly.
I built a business and retired from it,
to hold my grand-children close.
If this poem gives you pause,
then writing it claims its purpose.

Suggestion

My father was killed in an aircraft accident on the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid CVA-11 which is now retired in the New York harbor. I was considered to be a 14 year old war orphan. I am a retired Veteran and Federal Civil Service Employee. I have completed over 500 poems on Poetry Soup with each one having an average of 12 lines
in iambic. Your August 16th Poem of the Day was mine about Robin Williams.
Two of my other poems have received an honorable mention from you. Other poets have thanked me for the support they received from me in the form of my poems. My poems have supported their efforts to write poems and stay on Poetry Soup. Based on this, I think that you have a great idea in giving me a Lifetime Membership in Poetry Soup. I think that it is a brilliant thought you have there. James Thesarious Hilarious Horn jthorn5656@gmail.com just like you. Keep a running total of poems for us to see would also be interesting. Anyone out there. Whatever I can do to encourage and motivate you to write poems and stay on Poetry Soup, I would be glad to do so.
More suggestions and ideas should be sent ot Poetry Soup.

Military Names

MILITARY    NAMES

Names are chosen to suggest aggression;
Anything smacking of peace is for suppression.
Soviet subs are Typhoons not Seabreezes.
The USAF flies Eagles, not Robins
And it’s a Tomcat, not a Tabby cat,
Real men fly a Hornet not a Butterfly.
The British prefer Harrier to Supporter.
Native American names can include
The Tomahawk but not the Prayer Bead,
And the Apache but not the Micmac.
No doubt a new aircraft carrier
Could be called the Charles Bronson
But not called the Oscar Wilde.

Veterans On Father's Day

Veterans on Father's Day

What is there really left to say
For veterans here at Father's Day;
Which one was war you were in?;
Where should I really start to begin?

On active duty my Dad did die,
And we will never know why;
Enlisted which took a lot of nerve
And for his country he did serve.

They buried him into deep blue sea
In Med which still does remind me
For his country whole life did give
So the rest of us all could live.

This is all true. He died on the Aircraft Carrier
Intrepid CVA-11 August 1956 in the Med.

Bounty Hunter Born and Bred

Bounty Hunter Born and Bred

An excellent movie, by me was seen
About bad man who had been mean;
Would think and much time did devote
When this poem would finally be wrote.

Terrible Tom Horn had died today;
For his dirty deeds now must pay;
Being bounty hunter born and bred;
Pretty soon would be found dead.

Philandering person who they hated;
In saloon for a while, He had waited;
Then would take a short single breath,
Then did shot the poor soul to death.

From life Horn would be set free
Was hung from branch on a tree;
Shot many people who would die;
For his death, this is reason why.

James Thomas Horn
Norview High School, Sophomore

Wrote this after seeing the movie Tom Horn and was 15 years old
just after my dad was killed on
the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid.
