*1st MiJo poem
2015 and years thereafter
The year of two thousand and fifteen,
has not been a good year for world peace.
Brotherhood of Man. I despair of our
lack of empathy with children killed by
Well-meaning
Bombs dropped by nations
Those who look for peace through violence.
I recall from history books a king named
Croesus, everything he touched turned into
gold, and he died amidst plenty.
State-sponsored violence spawns terror and
And newer versions of ISIS will not go away,
And we cannot understand that there will be
no peace before the whole world is a ruin if
We do not come to our senses and stop feeding
terror`s voracious appetite.
THIS IS THE REROUTE
THE RUT FOR THE RAM
NOT LIKE A DODGE
WHERE YOU GOT
ALL YOU CAN
THIS IS THE REROUTE
LIKE A YEAR FOR A SCORE
A WANDER NOT REACHING
FOR A HEART TO WANT MORE
THIS IS THE REROUTE
A MOVE FOR A MESS
LIKE A MISS
YET THE SCENE ON
THE TURNPIKE'S
LIKE A VIEW THAT'S
A KISS
THIS IS THE REROUTE
NOT A DRIFT FOR A SEEMS
MORE LIKE A JOKE FOR
A JOURNEY THAT
LEAVES BEHIND DREAMS
THIS IS THE REROUTE
MORE A CAUSE A CONCERN
LIKE DIESEL THAT'S
BURNING IN YOUR HEART
THAT STILL YEARNS
THIS THE REROUTE
A RETURN FOR A REST
FOR THE GUIDE AND
THE GUARANTEE
OF SOMEONE WHO KNEW WHAT
WAS BEST
THIS IS THE REROUTE
THE END FOR A SCORE
THE HEART GETS
THE BEAUTY OF
THE LOVE THAT
WAS MORE
THIS IS MY REROUTE
MY TELL OF NO CARES
THAT SHOULD COST
THAT MY HIGHWAYS
MY BYWAYS WERE NOT
FOR SOMEONE WHO'S LOST

Valentine’s Day 2015
An odd way to spend it,
At Hospice watching Nana sleep,
This room becoming our world
On a rotating basis.
Right now there’s me
And Nana and IT
The elephant in the room.
The doctor said IT could come anytime.
The nurse said everybody’s different,
And IT can be different, too.
The family structure never the same
When our strong matriarch succumbs to IT
Death, the elephant in the room.
~ Judy Bausch
Life
Life is like a light
That you can switch
When the world says why
And the B- word hits
Life is like a light
That you leave on
When your friends have left
And good times are gone
It’s like a light
In a darkened time
When the world say what
Your life don’t rhyme
It’s like a light
That you can shine
When the words say real
And you say It’s Mine
Life
I'm learning to trust
My instincts
I'm learning to stare
And not blink

My best friend
Is 64
And she doesn't
Live next door
My best friend
Is twice my age
But she isn't
And old sage

and if I start with “once upon a time”
will you find yourself
getting suitably comfortable
ready to hear a fairytale
or a long piece of vomit?
how will you be dressed?
so fine, like before
or “beggar casual”
in torn stockings
in the middle of a nightmare?
the fake journey you’re undertaking
lying back, thinking of warm baths
bubbles, candles, wine so fine
no time now to hesitate
you’ve left it late, you’ve left it late
if you’re clever, you’ll take a map
a pinch of this, a smoke of that
a pocket of lies and alibis
different coloured eyes
and a convincing disguise
first night nerves, expected,
memories, rejected
over, done, finished
how does it feel?
how real was the deal?

Valentine’s Day 2015
if i were the breeze
i would rustle autumn leaves
round your quickened
feet
and tumble milkweed angels
up and down your street
if i were the weather
i would mist your mornings
with countless rainbows
and light the way
where you and the world
often meet
if i were your lover
i would exalt you
like no other
mix the bitter
with sweet
into a batter complete
with lemon/lime
ginger
and a kiss firmly planted
upon the softness
of your cheek.
