1968 Poems - Poems about 1968

1968 My first funeral

I wonder why everybody felt the need,
to express their opinions so openly,
about this man who had the misfortune to die.

I watched them slowly strolling past the casket,
like they were shopping for fruit at the market,
I wondered why some of them felt the need to cry..

There were a few folks braver than the rest,
who touched his

A New Birth
Miracle Man
8-25-2023

I saw odds stacked against me, and no place to turn,
I sought the face of one that I’d given little concern.

I put my trust in Jesus and with great faith believed,
I was amazed at what my Heavenly Father achieved.

The recent prognosis that had my body once bound,
In an

Special Needs Education Policy 1968

Special Needs Education Policy 1968

The session paper 5 of 1968, a turning point so grand,
A moment in history that improved the lives of many, a stand.
For special needs education in Kenya, it paved the way,
A brighter future for all, where everyone could learn and play.

Gone were the days, where children with special needs,
Were left behind,

Big Lil - 1968

It was a year of revolutions
Worldwide, quiet little fights
Wanting more from democracy?
Fighting for Civil Rights.?
From Hull three trawlers sank
February, fifty eight lives lost,
Adding to that 10 thousand
Deep sea fishing would finally cost.

They called them Headscarf Heroes
Big Lil lead the housewives, the few
Who stood and fought for
More safety for the crews.
They marched on Downing Street
In

1968

1968, the only year
Since the Great War,
Supposed to ensure
We would fight no more,
No combat deaths
Of any serving Brit.
A sobering fact.
But do enough know it?

Band of Brothers- 1968

Not a stir of air, not a movement of grass or bush,
This night is as still as the death that stalks the unsuspecting.
That creeper of the shadows, the face that only takes on features

Sickening sweet smell of marijuana
A young guy with a super grin playing bongos
I had never seen that in real life, just on Dobie Gillis.

Come on up! My free-minded cousin said.
There were beds, but they were occupied.
I did not know people sleep during the day.

Being from the Midwest, this was all new
Are these your roommates? I

But the mixed fans will thrill; even a turbaned Sikh)
So if you fell weighed down today in 2020

The Battle March 11 1968

Through The Valley Page 187

From reality, now only a memory

Pfc. Tony May crawled over to Zbozien to give him some protection when the first smoke rounds struck between the line of hootches and NVA positions. He and the other men in the 3rd Platoon were asking whether they would survive the day when Fritz

Remembering August 28, 1968
Written: by Miracle Man
10-07-2019

I prayed that day to feel God’s touch,
I asked no more, just that much,
Prayer was answered from above,
With tear filled eyes I felt His love.

But what did I, a lost man, have to give,
I vowed my heart for as long as I live.
Since that day we’ve not been

August 28th 1968*

3/20/2014

Without joy I faced a mountainous rise,
A pale rider had entry into my day.
Sitting astride, the specter of my demise,
No longer, my concerns, could I allay.

But from uplifted prayer, an answer,
Descended not as an eminent surprise;
I was jolted by news that it was cancer
By the Holy Spirit, God did baptize.

Straightaway

February 28th 1968

A turning point with
advantage of 20/20 hindsight
identifies severe dislocation
birthing emotional plight
intervening years since psyche wrenched
by rather innocuous event at first sight

exaggerated haunting shadows
sparred illuminated by dim backlight,
now conviction hammered home startdate
coffin unwittingly nailed airtight
death of spontaneous bright
eyed bushy tailed

spunkiness extinguished
gored me lifeless,
asper bloodless bullfight
all entrails left intact,
and no obvious insight
fledgling, negligible, tentative...

flickering soon snuffed

November 1968: The Hunted

Got divorced couple years ago, second time
At first, I mirror myself as a low-life loser

Jack without Jill, McGee without Molly
Ossie without Harriot, Adam absent Eve

No fourth finger, gold band of respectability
Instead wagging digits of family and friends

Then discover a stimulating, singles society
Connect at cocktail lounges and corner bars
